I hope this will happen soon. I've spent half my life on flights. Every quarter I do a lot of  business class flights to Glasgow  to my business partners.
I would like to see an expansion of the payment options for airlines as soon as possible.

to be honest i don't see this as a positive news at all because it looks like they are trying to advertise themselves so that they can sell their NFT token and make as much money as they can.

How is it not? The fact is, people can now pay using bitcoin, and at the same time them adopting it will give bitcoin more and more legitimacy. That in itself is great news adoption-wise, regardless if they planned on selling NFTs or not.

I kinda agree with this. It's true that the NFT part wouldn't be needed but from an economic strategy standpoint, it makes sense for them to be able to accept Bitcoin for the regular service of their core business, which is to sell seats in their plains, and on the other end, they will sell NFTs as kind of a merchandise (or whatever). It's at least 2 new income sources instead of just one!

If Emirates Airlines decides to start accepting bitcoin as payment for services, this will be a happy development. Our Nigerian leaders enjoy visiting Dubai, and by doing so, they will feel better about us. The ban on cryptocurrencies in Nigeria will be slightly eased during the period of account freeze.

Emirates Airline News
As part of its ambition to engage with customers in a manner that is both faster and more flexible, Emirates, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, intends to use cutting-edge digital technologies such as blockchain, metaverse, and cryptocurrency.

The Chief Operating Officer of Emirates, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, has said that the airline intends to employ Bitcoin as a payment service while simultaneously introducing non-fungible tokens, also known as NFT collectibles on the company’s websites for trading purposes, making these remarks while attending the Arabian Travel Market reports Arab News on May 11.

Al-Redha also stated to a media gathering that the airline headquartered in Dubai will hire new staff for the metaverse and NFTs, in an effort to develop applications to monitor customer needs.  Smiley

Don't know how I didn't see this earlier would have asked them about it (I always use one of the Gulf airlines travelling home)

But I actually already used several airlines with Bitcoin, but via travelbybit. They cost a lot more on regular routes but the exotic routes, especially those with >1 transit? They cost cheaper when paying with Bitcoin.

Only problem comes later with some slight adjusting with the airlines itself IF your flight gets changed etc but otherwise I booked several returns on long distance and saved quite a bit.

Actually haven't found anyone else I know using it. Anyone here does?

And on the airlne subject, anyone look into AirBaltic's... latest crypto er, gig?

Against the background of all the bad news lately and the terrible state of the markets at the moment, here is some positive news which should put some more confidence in the newbies, that not everything is lost, and how the bitcoin market died for 1000th time, again.
Don't get fooled by the news sources saying that Bitcoin is dead and crypto is just a bubble. This type of narrative has been around since satoshi's era so, let's focus on the positive.

Here's the link to the news..

If you consider how much money is flowing around the crypto market at any point and the relatively good liquidity available to convert it into cash, it's reaching the point where bitcoin should be integrated into most payment processors soon enough. There might have to be price limits because higher amounts are harder to convert instantly. These sorts of companies are going to convert these bitcoins to cash instantly because they're unlikely to want any volatility longer term.

I think I've heard of similar news about some airlines accepting cryptos as payment, but what sets this one apart is that it's a country's leading airline, not just one of barely known ones. I think Bitcoin can be great for airline tickets because the price is usually significant enough for a couple of dollars of fees to go unnoticed. It's also often not an urgent purchase (there's time to wait for the transaction confirmation). But I suspect they'll accept Bitcoin via some payment manager, right, not as transfers to a Bitcoin address directly?
In any case, this won't fix the price situation but it's nice to hear.

Definitely positive news. Amidst all that’s going on, market drops and everything, people (well, some people) losing confidence in crypto, Emirates kinda “boosted” the Bitcoin validity with this move. Especially considering that the Dubai airport is the world's busiest airport for international passengers.

Emirates Airline is one of the major airlines which will certainly have a lot of positive impacts if it properly adopts bitcoin as a payment service option. This will be a big positive news that will attract investors to start re-entering bitcoin.

Emirates is indeed trying to develop their digital economy and of course bitcoin is one of them and they will also add a collection of NFT (non-fungible tokens) on their website. Emirates is interested in getting into the world of the Digital Metaverse and NFT.

this will certainly encourage Emirates Airline airline users to enter their digital world and get to know Bitcoin, NFT and the world of Metaverse they will create.

Once a man, twice a child!
Whatever that makes Bitcoin headline, is positive news to me. It's positive to me because it creates more milage and exposure for Bitcoin when the news comes off as a ban/restriction or adoption and use. More people get to hear and read about Bitcoin whenever it's mentioned. That's for sure. For a positive news such as its use is by Emirates Airline now, that's a double positive. It's a win–win for both sides, Emirates and Bitcoin. More of such news will continue to keep Bitcoin in demand and out of murky waters.

Sorry to interrupt your conversation, but what BitcoinHolder saying might be true. There is an airlines company Airbaltic that claim they accepts Bitcoin as a payment (airBaltic - World’s First Airline To Accept Bitcoin). But in fact they never did. In 2019 I had a connection flight in Latvia and tried to buy a ticked, the lady at the cash desk was sitting with huge round eyes, when I tried to explain what is cryptocurrency and Bitcoin. Neither there was an option to pay in crypto when trying to get a ticked online.

Emirates are larger company, and maybe they will really have that option, but as BitcoinHolder said, it might be just a hype.

This airline is the largest in Middle East and operates to above 150 cities across 6 continents. In 2020 the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimated that Emirates carried over 15.8 million passengers making it largest international airline that year.  This news is good for the publicity of Bitcoin and it would definitely increase the use and acceptability of this outstanding cryptocurrency. Also, Emirate is very influential in the Middle East, hence many other firms would soon join this company to adopt Bitcoin.

They just wanted to be updated on this trend and this is a good thing for us because once again bitcoins will have some extra exposure in the market and free advertisement in the middle east. If alike of them accept bitcoins, the other companies might want to try to consider accepting BTC as well. Though the market is not looking good right now and the news about bitcoins nowadays are not bright, you cannot stop this company from implementing such a service because they also had undergone some investigation and meetings before they released such decisions.

one good news for the adoption of BTC itself, although there are airline promotions behind it I think it's reasonable because they are looking for consumers for it,
but if for NFT what will they sell , this is a question mark .
at least adopting bitcoin as payment is enough to make them qualify for laden from UAE if technology issues

Every publicity is good for Bitcoin and besides this one is actually not the negative one so when they actually start to accept Bitcoin it should be a major boost again plus we already know that the region has a positive acceptance for Cryptocurrencies and I also believe they could push their NFT without associating bitcoin if they wanted that.

That's good news to see a famous and well-known airline like Emirates is going to accept bitcoin as a payment method for their client, especially these days when we hear some fud news about bitcoin and some newbie people are worried about it. In my own idea, they made this decision because of the interest of their client because as far as I know the companies in the Emirates, they care about digital marketing and will do almost anything to make their clients happy to get some more money from them because I used their services a few months ago and I could feel this. However, they can also offer NFTs for their clients so every client can have an NFT after using their services which can be useful for them to attract more clients.

This is a very good news for not just bitcoin but all crypto related projects as well. With more and more used cases, especially for one of the world's leading and trusted airlines whoses customer services is placed at a very high esteem and they are a highly quality patronised airline you can say, many people will discover and rediscover more about bitcoin.
We would get to see more of those that would not just hodl but will spend bitcoin for a currency in the buying of flight tickets. No doubt, the UAE airline would do more than accepting by making a bitcoin ATM available at therr Airport to ensure the else in operating this system.

So what if they are trying to advertise themselves and make more money, they are company that is focused on profit, not a charity organization and if fools want to buy NFTs, so be it. The important thing here is that they will accept bitcoin (most likely via 3rd party as majority of other businesses) so this is a good news nevertheless.

No matter what, the fact that Bitcoin's adoption is increasing every day is definitely a good news. Given Bitcoin still has a lot to offer. A bit of cheer to the sector will definitely help and maybe even create more buying interest.

It could be that companies today are realizing that the fiat money they got from the services they provide is less valuable already due to inflation.
Its probably more about giving more options to their buyers as I doubt that they will accept bitcoin directly and store it.

This. The need for more options is definitely there since, I assume, some fiat currencies are no longer so desirable.  Wink

Most major international airlines pulled out of Russia amid sweeping sanctions imposed by Western countries since the war began in Ukraine. But Emirates is one of the few carriers that is still operating flights to Moscow and St Petersburg.

For us Bitcoiners Bitcoin is definitely more desirable than FIAT. Slowly but surely that
realisation is going to increase. Emirates surely realise this and are in the position
to be able to adopt Bitcoin as payment and as they comment themselves....

It's thier right to make money by selling their NFT and we are not bound to buy those NFTs. They are offering bitcoin as payment method and this is bullish news for bitcoin adoption. Other airlines will follow the same if they see that Emirates airlines business is increased by taking this step.

That's another feather in the cap of bitcoin and, this is very natural for corporations and companies to adopt bitcoin, they see a reason in that and the reason is very simple, its more convenient, its more technologically relevant and they know it diversify their own funds more meaningfully. It facilitates new customers.

This was expected since the UAE decided to give activity licenses to well-known trading platforms such as the famous Binance platform. The problem with this decision is that it is somewhat limited in effectiveness because the trading platforms’ activity licenses are limited to include only Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which are the two Emirates in which the platforms have been granted the license to operate, waiting till obtaining the necessary licenses from the rest of the Emirates.

This is big news I was excited when I read the news today in my local newspaper and came to the forum to see that discussion on that is already ongoing, Emirates airlines are one of the top leading international Airline operators in my country and accepting Bitcoin as paying me for air tickets is a big deal as I international travelers will no longer have to go through banking processes to make travel payment on the NFT/metaverse development I also believe that will give more advance scalability since the company is diving into the adoption of blockchain into the operation.

Regardless of the opinion of others even if they're not in favor with it, I welcome this move. I find this positive because of embracing Bitcoin in open arms that results for the Emirates airline to add Bitcoin as an alternative option for the passengers. As long it's adopting Bitcoin in a positive way regardless of their advertising or marketing purpose, it's all good for me.

Here is some positive news in a week of back to back bad news for crypto-currency, I had earlier said that my joy in Crypto-currency would be complete if I can see that it is not only adopted but also in Use, we don’t only need to hold Bitcoin only to watch it grow, we can incorporate it into our lives, and Emirates a leading Airline company accepting it as a medium of payment is a good step to that. I believe this isn’t only a win for Crypto-currency in the long run Emirates would definitely benefit from this.

UAE wants to stand ahead of other countries in terms of development as well as in terms of technology adoption. As a result it has made several positive things relative to cryptocurrency, and has been in the process of making Dubai the central hub for fintech. UAE airlines to accept payment in bitcoin is a positive news and could be followed by more other airlines. However it should not expect big usage, because in the past Expedia started to accept bitcoin and stopped the service within a short as it didn't get good usage as expected.

Good news for Bitcoin as well as Emirates Airline. There was no report about how they would collect the payments and if they would hold some of their funds in Bitcoin.m, although with the current dip and uncertainty, this may not seem like the right time (although it's a pretty good time)

Are there still news sources that promotes that propaganda of bitcoin being a bubble or dead? If yes, who listens to them again? I was following such news as they were rampant, but after bitcoin survived covid-19 pandemic, most of the antagonist gave up. If they stick exist, maybe it's once in blue moon, during bitcoin dip period.
The current propaganda is about electricity consumption and environmental health which are promoted by banks and anti-bitcoiners. It's a baseless argument as the others before it, but trust the public to believe news without doing proper research.
I'm confident, this would pass, as all the other Bitcoin attacks before it

If UAE is jumping on board then definitely it’s positive gesture for bitcoin. Imagine if they are publicising this in bearish market also then they care less the current state of market. All they want is acceptance of bitcoin as payment and think about the market valuation later. Emirates is big airline from the list and way popular in the business class too. Definitely there will be huge support to this payment system. Peeps would love to pay in bitcoins as everyone has hold of it these days. Not sure how fast they will act but definitely positive seed in the bearish market.

Trust me, only bitcoin is there and ready to be offered without us worrying about long term movement. For example, we have been at a point where Bitcoin has fallen and gone up many times, while altcoins have fallen and are hard to get back up. This is a sign that people should be aware that no company would dare to take the risk of accepting altcoin payments. Hence Bitcoin as an option. Moreover, belief in altcoins should be a harbinger of worry for those expecting a 1000x increase, while Bitcoin has been at the forefront of addressing those concerns several times.

Emirates is a costly airline for a citizen from a developing or underdeveloped country. I dont know about what NFT they are going to sell, but we can keep that aside for now, we are interested only in the bitcoin payments.

However their statement that they will use metaverse to transform its processes - seems more of a gimmick and vaporware for now. It is also possible that they are trying to stand out in the global aviation market in the post-pandemic travel burst.

It would be worth noting if other international airlines follow suit or what the government decides about crypto transactions. UAE government is very conservative, hence I am skeptical.

Who would have thought that with the sudden current market crash, this positive news would appear. It is not difficult to guess that the UAE airline's management was preparing for bitcoin introduction as a means of payment for a long time. I can’t say what influenced it, this news or just people began to buy BTCbecause of the discount price, but bitcoin price increased by ~$3k. Although we have not been given a date when what the UAE airline has said will be implemented, but in the future, this news has very serious and positive consequences for bitcoin and the crypto industry as a whole. This may seem like a signal and set off a chain reaction when other companies, not just airlines, start using BTC as a payment service.

It looks like serious business also wanted a piece of the BTC-pie. This is a good signal and a reason for ordinary people to think, despite the current decadent mood.

Right now, the whole crypto market is really in bad shape and with the whole world looking at it right now certainly its future can be affected especially on the big area of regulations coming from the government. Now, it is really a refreshing to see that despite of the red market, adoption of cryptocurrency by merchants and big business is still coming in. Let's hope that this is just the beginning for many other major airlines to also be accepting Bitcoin...as this shows that BTC is now being looked as the most important important and most viable digital currency. I am hoping that Emirates will have a promotional activities for this development and that they offer something special for customers using Bitcoin.

Its still a positive news to me. Its always attached to it that any company announcing their services in exchange of BTC is called marketing or advertising regardless of what sort of services. If its a well known ecommerce site accepting BTC, we could still consider it advertising or marketing but looking at them adopting Bitcoin is a plus for the crypto community.

It could be that companies today are realizing that the fiat money they got from the services they provide is less valuable already due to inflation.
