The 0.2BTC starting price is now 0.5BTC? Lol  Roll Eyes

It was the first 15 minutes of my own auction that had no bids on it.  Not so certain what could possibly be wrong with that?

But no, it was not .2; it was .3 and 15 minutes later I chaged it to .5 after I spoke to my wife regarding the auction.  She doesn't want to sell it for less, sorry.

All good, you are free to do whatever you like.  However, I’m fairly certain your wife will be the proud owner of this magazine.

She'd probably be happy about that - she said she didn't want to sell it anyways lol  Wink

First time I'm ever seeing this magazine, I knew of the wired issue a tad later.  Hows the article on btc in this mag?

Here's the full article on the new yorker's site:

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/10/10/the-crypto-currency

a neat excerpt from the article:

"The point, Clear continued, is that Nakamoto’s identity shouldn’t matter. The system was built so that we don’t have to trust an individual, a company, or a government. Anybody can review the code, and the network isn’t controlled by any one entity. That’s what inspires confidence in the system. Bitcoin, in other words, survives because of what you can see and what you can’t. Users are hidden, but transactions are exposed. The code is visible to all, but its origins are mysterious. The currency is both real and elusive—just like its founder.

“You can’t kill it,” Clear said, with a touch of bravado. “Bitcoin would survive a nuclear attack.”

I believe this is the first print article mentioning bitcoin, in any major periodical (except for perhaps regular newspaper article?).  There is a Wired magazine from December 2011 with Jeff Bezos and a bitcoin article mentioned on the cover, but this New Yorker piece predates it by ~2 months.

You are correct in that they are extremely rare.  My copy was purchased in 2016 and I've seen almost no examples since then.

Glad I grabbed one last year then! Cheesy

I am not really wanting to sell this, to be honest, but I've gathered so many collectibles over the last year and need to start scaling out of some of them.

I would say that this magazine is one of the earliest mentions of Bitcoin - the article was published in October of 2011.

I do not have a reserve or anything like that, which is why I've started the bid where I've started it (despite me honestly thinking it's worth at least over 1 BTC, personally, but I'll let the market decide on this).  You will not find another one of these for sale online (or at least I havent!).  I truly feel this is yet another one of the 'holy grail' collectibles, my own opinion.

Bitcoin price at the time of this article was around $4.

Starting Bid:  .50BTC

Bid Increments: .01BTC

Auction Ends:  Thursday, February 7th, 8 PM EST

Sniping:  No, any bid made in the last 10 minutes will extend the auction an additional 10 minutes until no further bids have been made.

No bids were made.  This piece will remain in our private collection
