LOL at claiming adding a private key and a sticker to a DIY wallet and selling them at auction is trademark infringement or that I can’t use the name penny on a forum auction.  You guys get more desperate by the day.

This auction is for 10 individual Prototype Bitcoin NastyPenny™ Commemorative Coins.  Only 10 of these 0.01 BTC loaded coins were created by OgNasty and engraved with 30-character (vanity) mini-keys secured by Nasty holograms.

Seems a bit contradictory....

Edit: Sorry, just read your post Digi. Seems that there are 2 other topics about the infringement, that should be plenty.

Og, these are so TOTALLY flipping cool! Shocked Well done, my friend! Smiley

I also wanted to ask if those are ever going to be remade or its a limit edition coins.

Liad, if you're asking will the DIY Bitcoin Penny™ physical bitcoins (with the blank reverse side for key and holo stickers) be minted again in the future, then the answer is...maybe. Those were merely prototypes for the upcoming 2017 season, and no final decision has been made yet regarding our moving forward with a full release for 2017. (We're still on the fence about it for a few reasons.) However, after seeing the above photos, I can definitely envision the possibility of an uber cool, small-scale collaboration for 2017! Wink

Brilliant, Og. Just brilliant. Wink

Regards,
Chris

Further, chris' response seems to me to not be indicative of prior conversation, but this is merely conjecture.

Thank you for posting this.  We most definitely had prior conversations about this product and it was BitcoinPenny that reached out to me first about engraving private keys on his coins.  I even quoted him pricing to do a 1oz silver BitcoinPenny round with engraved keys at his request.  I had the idea of engraving his doodles on silver rounds even, which I thought would be cool, but the idea fell through after what I interpreted as price gouging appeared to be the goal.

*sigh* I'm just gonna leave this here.

he asked permission, that's a stupid question

He said he did in his original auction thread for the 10 coins

I decided to investigate your claim, which appears to be totally fabricated, as there is no mention of this in the OP or thread in general

I am not a lawyer, I do not know trademark law, but including the TM mark in the OP for these coins, if not infringement, is in poor taste. Further, the inclusion of a doodle advertised as signed by both OG and CJBBP but pictured as only signed by Chris tells me this was a standard doodle that OG intended to resign, advertising as "by both" is misleading.

Is this a Nasty collectible? Sure.
Is it a BP collectible. I say nay.

If the doodle does not fit, we must acquit.

Perhaps that’s where the sudden change of heart came from.  He most definitely discussed this exact product with me many times in chats beforehand.  Surprised to see him lie about it now.

Thanks for your input everyone and from now on I'd like to keep this thread on topic with the auction.

The circumstances surrounding this coin are definitely intriguing and if the conversation is to be continued regarding trademark/permissions, I would kindly ask it's done on the original thread which is unlocked at the current time - The 2016 Prototype Edition Bitcoin NastyPenny™

I enjoyed making these.  Besides cutting the holograms by hand with scissors and writing code in python for my first time to generate the mini-keys, I think these might be the smallest items I'd ever engraved.

Out of interest did you ask permission to make these? Bitcoinpenny is a trademark after all.

Sorry Digi, don't want to derail thread, but might add to the value if OG gets grief for trademark infringement

Of course he asked permission, that's a stupid question

I'll chime in here just to set a few facts straight.

1. I did not give permission to OgNasty to either (A) make the Nasty Penny or (B) to use our trademarked "Bitcoin Penny" in its name.
2. I was not given advance notice of the Nasty Penny project, and I only became aware of its existence after the original thread was posted by OgNasty. (I found out about the Nasty Penny at the same time that most of you did.)
3. I was offended at the blatant trademark infringement, but after seeing its positive reception by a few trusted members / collectors of the forum, I decided to have a positive and cheerful reaction to the situation. (That's just my way.) Additionally, I chose to believe that it was a simple, unintentional, and excusable oversight on OgNasty's part.
4. It was a very cool idea for a new product.
5. I only wish it was a true collaboration. Then I wouldn't have been offended by any trademark infringement.
6. Still, I was able to look past the problem, and at the time, I was optimistic about doing a legitimate collaboration with any upcoming 2017 Mini Physicals.
7. The legitimate collaboration never happened.

I hope those facts (well, #4 is more of an opinion, but I still believe that it's true) will help to clear up a few misconceptions that have appeared several times since the release of the Nasty Penny.

Regards,
Chris

How is it trademark infringement? He took your product and turned it into a new one.

Did you even trademark your brand/company?

you need to read stuff before you post.

every coin has the full company site and name which clearly shows TM

He took the product and put a holo on it with no permission and used the name Nasty penny which does come under infringement AFAIK

I don't see any or that info on the front of the coin pictured?

Up for auction is a very rare Copper NastyFans NastyPenny which was a hybrid coin created from a 2016 DAVE Bitcoin Penny DIY.  Only 10 of these were made and per the wiki (https://wiki.coin.community/wiki/NastyFans_NastyPenny) they are supposedly loaded with 0.01BTC each.  Have fun and happy bidding!   Smiley

Starting bid: 0.01BTC
