Guys we are arguing with dozerz about whether he should sell his coin for under peel or not cmon.  Its up to him whether thats worth the risk or not.  As a buyer thats why its tough because you dont want to buy or value the coin with the shitcoins attached but the seller has to because why take risk on top of selling it for less than what they can get by spending a little time and effort and peeling.  Thats why these shitforks are killing off the low premium loaded coins.  Is what it is.

I look forward to the day when the rarity of these coins makes it so their premium outweighs their loaded value.  I say keep undervaluing them and force people to peel.  Grin

I expect an equillibreum to be hit where the loaded ones get rare enough to collect a higher premium, then making it "worthwhile" to keep stickered up.  Pretty much what you said, thats why its good to bury them away for now Wink

not an issue if you already have accounts, they are also not scam exchanges and only 2 examples, bitfinex also accepts btg. i prefer if you stick to the facts and not exaggerate based on emotion.

Doesn't hitbtc require KYC documents these days? Also, Hitbtc is known for buggy platform. Coins disappear randomly etc. And support can be slow... Bitfinex is probably OK for dumping BTG and BCH. These things are easier for long-time bitcoiners, and tech-savvy people in general. Some people only use e.g. Ledger hardware wallet and have no idea or experience of raw privkeys. Old-timers have bias regarding these things. Smiley

there is a misconception that the forks are worthless, or take too much effort to claim.

make me an offer if you are interested.
Sorry, a bit too rich for my blood  Tongue

although, I will have to contest you on the claim that forks are easy to claim.. BTC and BCH easy enough, BTG you have to jump through hoops and other forks are basically impossible to convert to btc

hoops as in downloading a wallet and adding the key? https://99bitcoins.com/how-to-claim-bitcoin-gold-btg-guide/

craptopia swaps btx for btc, not exactly hard. hitbtc also swaps btg to btc, not basically impossible.

seems this thread is light on fact and high on emotion.

Creating multiple accounts on different exchanges (especially suspected scam ones) is not jumping through hoops? Just like Hybrid said, ignore peel value and just focus on the fact that it is a good deal..

Disobey.
why would you sell gold for under spot value?

This isn't really spot value when you have to download multiple wallets, send to various exchanges, etc to redeem anything beyond BCH or BTG.  It's like saying I'll sell you my desktop PC, but will value it based on all the individual components prices on ebay.  Oh and it has gold in the motherboard, can't forget about that!
Haha, good point.

Still, if had that much spare BTC at hand I might grab this one, seems a very good price for a cas, even in this condition.
Oh.. and don't forget, it also holds BTX. ; ) Needs some mooning first before it will be worth the claiming effort, tough.

Instead of arguing fork value why don't you guys just say BTC1.2 firm, great deal for original cas, get it while BTC is cheap??

its not that hard, you are making it more difficult than it is. i could simply add the key to a blockchain.info wallet and it would provide both btc and bch, my local exchange swaps fiat for both. downloading a coinomi wallet i could have the other forks, these are also accepted at an exchange i already use. for under an hours work i can claim 90% of the value, dont make it out to be harder than it really is.

good discussion however ability to sweep is not an issue. granted only the big forks would be worth while but no issue for me taking all. why would you sell gold for under spot value?

couple more close ups, looks to be some slight black brass corrosion dots, other than that is in mint condition.

1.2 is a very good asking price for an original Casascius either way.  I'm not sure why we're so focused on valuing forks when this coin would have easily commanded this premium prior to Aug 2017.  It's a no-win situation when a seller says "I won't sell for less than peel value", because it opens up the debate and derails the sale every time. Just say the price is 1.2 and leave it at that.

Peel value is what it is, but it certainly needs some additional work and skills to get. Bcash is relatively easy to sell for bitcoins, but the rest of the alts may not be. There are various things to do..: finding a (reliable) wallet software that supports importing airdrop alts (most likely you'll need to get several different wallets/clients for this), or maybe some service to do this for you (bad for privacy!!). Then you need to trade those altcoins to e.g. bitcoins. That may require KYC/AML and/or using shady exchanges. All in all, some knowledge, effort and time is required to do all of this properly & safely. Therefore "peel value" might in the end be just the bitcoin (and maybe bcash) value for many.
I'm not surprised that the average cryptocoiner does not see nor understand the risks nor difficulties involved in claiming forks, especially when their number is very high and the time between a sale and actual time of potential redeem is somewhat long. Most of the forks could plummet to zero overnight[1].

[1] A very notable example of this is BitcoinX, currently having the most value per Bitcoin after Bcash.

I'm not surprised that people without finance experience don't see that the value of something isn't determined by the owner's proficiency of claiming forks.  The "risks" of claiming forks from an address that no longer holds BTC/BCH/BTG are so minimal it isn't worth seriously discussing unless you have some sort of superiority complex or are trying to buy this coin for less than it's value.

offers under peel value will be ignored.

remember all the forks along with postage costs, if i dont get a decent offer  by this weekend it will go under the knife.

This significantly reduces the chance of finding a buyer. The link you used does not provide an accurate representation of fork value; you should only consider Bcash at best.

Why would he consider less than the actual value?  If he's going to peel it and claim all the coins, that's what buyers are up against, not what YOU perceive as the only valuable coins.

Not only that, but he could add a few bits to the price as the peeled coin is still of value to collectors and then a few more as peeling yourself has reduced risk to shipping the loaded coin.  Wink
