In short eric prince has a plan for afghanistan:
1. Use corruption to pass mining laws
2. Conquer and defend the mining ops while production wastes goes in the water streams harming the locals and the stream flow reduced.
That's the theory, and a good plan to make money. On the otherside:
All factions will unite against the invaders, from the agricultural farmers, the psychoactive black market participants, the talibans, the sunnis foreign fighting groups and the locals. Why? Dirty or less water = deaths.
As such constant warfare until the foreigners leave will occurs.
The men of prince will die, and capitulate like all those before them, including soviet union.
What shock me, is that by being used to conquer farming tribes in africa and south america, he believes to stand a chance there.
One obvious path would be clean mining operations, it's possible just less profitable. Those managing the mining must drink the water runoff. If it's pure water, there is no problem.
However there isn't only water waste, but consumption by the mining operations. Less water = less crops, same problem.
And finally there is how the eventual incomes are shared, alaskalike it may succeed, but in afghanistan... not yet at least.
And secondly the narco trade... but that's for another topic
