im a little confused by the work around.. also someone sent me bitcoin i opened the wallet and thats when i got the message. does this mean the coin is now lost?

My advice to you and all other Mac users: downgrade your bitcoin-qt to v0.7.2 (with the "May 15 workaround") unless you want to be "rebuilding the block database" FREQUENTLY.
