Are you the only one who controls the backend, or are there other developers, and are you open to adding some other members of the forum with you? In the end, if site turns into a profitable project, continuity will be certain.

At the moment, only I have been managing everything. But I have a friend who, in case of urgent need, has access to everything. Wink

In the future, I hope to be able to join forum users, the management team to ensure continuity. As at the moment I cannot pay wages, if someone wants to join, it has to be on a voluntary basis.

It will then be possible to move up to a much higher level, where the annual cost would be around 2k$/year. But, for now, there is no such need, since the current server is capable of supporting about 6~7 years of images, if the pace is maintained.
I used to think that the costs are much higher than that, I imagined a number between 7k$/year to 12k$/year, but with these costs, it does not seem that it is difficult. Cheesy

@joker_josue/anyone else: what's the yearly cost of hosting something like TalkImg? Not the cheapest version but something reliable that can handle a lot of traffic.

At the moment, the current service has a hosting cost of around 300$/year. And it can have more than 600k images, regardless of the space and bandwidth consumed. With margin to adjust some point, according to the need and eventually an extra cost.

It will then be possible to move up to a much higher level, where the annual cost would be around 2k$/year. But, for now, there is no such need, since the current server is capable of supporting about 6~7 years of images, if the pace is maintained.

My 0.001 donation is still stuck in confirmation purgatory.  I might have to see if I can accelerate it.  Hopefully others are helping out with the cost of maintaining the site.  It's an invaluable tool.

That's not a negligent amount. Out of curiosity, do you maybe know how many images were uploaded up until now?

It's not little! But for now it is assured for another 2 or 3 years. But community support will be needed to continue. I believe in all of you. Wink

It may take even longer to reach max since number of active users and amount of posts have been consistently decreasing for quite some time.

In 13 years, according to data gathered by @LoyceV, 800k images were listed on the forum.
At TalkImg right now we have less than 20k. We've got a very good margin. Smiley

This solution is lazy and may not prevent the recurrence of what happened. hosting site must be managed by several members of the forum and funded by them.
No solution is foolproof and we can't be sure that any other currently working image hosting site will work tomorrow.

talkimg will reach a point where it cannot handle more traffic without the extra money.
One step at the time.

Snipped

The question that should be asked on you is if you have not been active on the forum for over a month or you're just coming across this experience for the first time after a while you've attempted on posting an image, well there have been several discussions concerning that and people are mow using alternative means even now that imgur have realized what they had lost through this, you can always use other image hosting sites to make post of your image, also you can join the discussion and make a poll on Theymos thread concerning a lasting solution to this https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/poll-on-solving-the-imgur-issue-5453101

TalkImg was developed for this community, and is open to whatever support BitcoinTalk members are willing to give.

If the community supports the project it will last a long, long time.  Wink

There were earlier issues with Imgur but now they have restricted the forum users and also deleted past images hosted on their platform and there were lot of topics related to it if you look for it.The members whole lot of images on that site are deleted causing lot of threads surrounding the forum.

So as @TryNinja already posted above use forum related platform which will not restrict you and images will be hosted safely without getting deleted. So we should motivate them not these third party softwares who are always restricting us with one another issues and doing their will.

I do not know why restrictions were imposed if the service returned to work, but the code was updated to prevent imgur inside img tag
Why would you want to keep using Imgur after what happened? Huh

Besides pratically blocking bitcointalk, they have already publicly said that they were going to delete old images from unauthenticated users. At least TalkImg is controlled by someone who is a forum user.

I didn't change anything on the forum's end, so imgur must've loosened up their limits.

A change has occurred, now I tried to post an image including imgur and I got this error, I couldn't even post. The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Embedding imgur links is not supported in new posts

I do not know why restrictions were imposed if the service returned to work, but the code was updated to prevent imgur inside img tag

Use https://www.talkimg.com/ or https://imgbb.com/ to be uploading images on this forum. Both image uploading sites are even easier and simpler to use than Imgur. Also they are both newbie friendly and straightforward.

With what that have happened recently, I do not think we are going back to Imgur as you can see on the post above.

It looks like imgur is no longer blocking the image proxy. I didn't change anything on the forum's end, so imgur must've loosened up their limits. I guess it's not necessary to convert img images into links as long as imgur keeps working. But to prevent this from happening again, you'll get an error if you try to embed imgur images in posts from now on.

I'd like to create a page which recommends services for hosting forum images, and mention this in the error message you get when you try to use imgur. Other than TalkImg, which ones are good?

Today i tried to embed imgur link in my post but i received the follwing message that these imgur links are not supported. I know what has been happened in the past with imgur but since now the service is restored, then why imgur links are no longer suported on the forum ?

Perhaps the admins of the forum do not want us to use imgur anymore.
