Yeah, sticking to D-Link hubs is probably the best choice.

I've decided to stick to D-Link for connecting Erupters, and using the cheap USB hub I've got for connecting all the hubs to my computer.

If your hub has a external powered DC input (which I would assume is 5VDC), you can use another of the same voltage adapter with a higher amperage rating. This would be able to supply the current to all the devices you have on that hub without running out of juice. You DO NOT want to increase the voltage going into the hub
there are a few things with using cheap hubs...
1. they will burn out faster
2. they might not run your mining toys at all
3. if you put a bigger PSU on you could destroy the hub and possible the erupters and Host USB hubs (expensive risk)
if you want a cheap tried and tested solution look for the Dlink h7 hubs they will run 6 stick (most people do 5 to be safe)
if your using cheap hubs that are working then just know running anything like that at 100% what its rated at will eventually cause a problem

He's right. A block erupter needs 500ma each. That's half an amp. If you use those cheap hubs, you may have to buy a more powerful power adapter. I am using this hub: www.ebay.com/itm/380715722827?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I've recently acquired a set of 12 Erupters, and I have them running on two D-Link hubs (DUB-H7). The experience is going great, and I'm considering doubling my mining capacity.
I've been shopping on eBay for a while, and it's not surprising that I were able to find some very cheap generic hubs. I've purchased one of those (http://www.ebay.com/itm/270993842142?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649), and realised that it can hold up to 4~5 Erupters running.
My question is: what are the dangers, if any, of deploying a mining cluster using cheap / generic USB hubs? Is there any reason why I'd want to stick to D-Link hubs for my planned expansion?
