The reason why people prefer to use individual escrow services on this forum and not online escrow services are quite simple, because the rating sites for these services are fake in most instances and also the positive feedback they publish on their websites.  Roll Eyes

When you look at the feedback coming from people on this forum, you can easily spot the fake "newbies" and differentiate them from the more reputable forum users with a legit history and reputation.  Wink

High ranking members are not always trustworthy, because scammers might buy those accounts to fool people into trusting them.  Angry

all in all, I see users tend to lean more escrow services on forums and private individuals, though not necessarily cheaper nor safer.

Yes, it's not cheaper but safer under some circumstances rather than transact without a third party.
Even 1% for BTC1 is BTC0.01 min transact fee, not cheap for many people but that's the cost for better security. As some trusted members here offer escrow, they won't ruin the reputation by running away from responsibility. Unless you transact directly to a trusted member, not necessary to use an escrow obviously.

People who wanted more security must pay the escrow fee, otherwise they can just trust each other and do the transaction without the need for a go-between. However, since escrow systems are popular there must be a good business behind this leading to some putting up escrow services. I visited the https://btc-asia.com and I think the interface of the site is very simple and very good. I would be happy to hear some testimonial both good and bad on that service. P2P transactions can be safely enhanced by escrow services as long as the service can also be trusted and not another ploy to skim money from the victims. Here in the forum, we can find reliable escrow services though as a good advice we have to be careful at all times.

There are private individuals whose trust record is high and thus people are willing to use their services for escrow. I have many friends on facebook who are trustworthy enough that is why some of mine and their colleagues are requesting them for an escrow service. Personal escrow service is very risky but if you know how to look for trusted people then you try it.

snip-
https://btc-asia.com (looks legit, but again it's a person not an entity)
Looks like you are promoting this site huh, yes they are legit and they're here in the forum since in the year 2013.
You can check their ANN thread here, [ANN] BTC-Asia.com - Secure Bitcoin Escrows Posted by ninjaboon. I was found also this user reputation thread, ninjaboon Reputation Thread

But I personally prefer to use forum escrows because they had already held thousands worth of Bitcoin and clearly they won't let their reputation ruin as mentioned above. I didn't have doubt that escrow services here in the forum are trusted enough and probably they don't let down their reputation as a good escrow and continue their good business/services offered.

Hello,

A question that poped into my mind and got me interested.

I see a lot of random people, though reputable offer to mediate (a.k.a Escrow) for people who want to trade with each other.

as far as I know there's a few solutions like Payfair.io (which I find quite cumbersome, somewhat), bitrated.com (but they use agents and don't really offer escrow, but more like a voting service), localbitcoins (a somewhat reliable solution, ut they limit how much you can trade and generally require a lot of information) & https://btc-asia.com (looks legit, but again it's a person not an entity)

all in all, I see users tend to lean more escrow services on forums and private individuals, though not necessarily cheaper nor safer.

What am I missing? Is there a service I'm unfamiliar with it?

Would love to get your thoughts,

When I started here in this forum that escrow list is long but as time goes by the names in that list of reputable escrow started to decrease and then there is this Big 3

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-escrows-trade-safely-855778

The list above is the first one to be created by marcotheminer way back 2014, see how old those usernames are by now and maybe you will get a hint why they are trusted

Then there's the list of Shasan

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/few-trusted-escrow-providers-5047302

Names in that list are almost the same with the first link that I shared.

Those escrows lasted in this forum with untarnished integrity so paying fees for their services is nothing compared to the peace of mind that you will have on your transaction.

Aside from what you have quoted there are reputable members also here in the forum that offers the said service. If you like you can check also this service https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/escrow-service-of-bl4nkcode-active-2062906

I am not promoting his service but his service is only one of the reputable escrow provider here in the forum so you don't need to use the other platform there that will give a headache in the end. Using the service here is the fastest and more safe compare to outside escrow provider.

Escrows in this forum are not random people. They have been here for a long time, hero and legendary members most of them. They are offering escrow services with long track records to support them. Many of them have hundreds or even thousands of escrowed cryptocurrencies over time. Their accounts are witnesses to the feedback coming from their clients themselves. Although I haven't tried using an escrow from one of the sites you mentioned, I believe using an escrow from this forum will give you a quicker, clearer, and smoother transaction and communication.

I doubt it. I believe the reason why they go for a forum and private individuals is that they have a history or trusted with handling escrow transactions. Familiarity is the key here.

I never heard those services you mentioned before (except LBC), so I would rather go with escrow on this forum from Darkstar, minerjones, etc. The fees are really competitive, some only take 1%, or less.

I never heard about payfair.io I tried to access the website but the result "This site can’t be reached" it seems that the site is dead.

How about the escrow service here on the forum? Did you hear of them? you can add them to your list if you are looking for escrow service this one will be much safer than using escrow service outside of this forum when dealing with someone.

Check this list https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/few-trusted-escrow-providers-5047302

Fees are not a problem they only ask fewer fees around 1% to 2% which is small.
