Just think about NVIDIA and AMD. Who will buy all these GPUs if mining will stop? Gamers? They willnt buy even 5% from what miners buy. Even if ETH will go to PoS - smth will become ETH.
Think about the fact that if the price of Ethereum rises to $ 4,000, then gamers will not see video cards in stores for another year.
Newer graphics cards from the latest series can be used for rendering and other computing, while older graphics cards will be sold in second-hand markets.
Even with such prices gamers will not see GPUs. The only reason when ETH price does not matter - ETH goes to PoS. But even in such a way - i`m sure that we`ll see new ETH.

There is no assurance that ethereum team will implement eip1559 this year yet, something new might come up in the few months to this time, all I can say is keep mining and also consider holding some eth, if you are a pro trader you should see that 3500$ per ETH is already possible

Hello.

Now that we know, Etherium 2.0 has started
How much longer can ETH be mined?
Do you know any exact dates?

Thank you for the feedback!
I think that we will be able to mine Ethereum for at least 1 year. I have not heard news of a complete change of the algorithm.
If Ethereum mining ends, there will be many other coins on the market. And any modern video card will be able to mine them. The only criterion that I would use when choosing a video card is not to buy video cards with 6-8 GB memory.

I haven't heard any news about eth team planning to halt EIP1559 either which will definitely happens around July and even for the fact that many pools are against this I don't see any way around, anyways ethereum team are well known for going back on their words
I think you agree that adding EIP1559 is much better than moving to a Pos algorithm.
Even if some pools are against, then I do not see any active actions from them, except for posts on Twitter. Their strike, which was scheduled for April 1, turned out to be fake.
I mine Ethereum and follow the news Smiley

Nothing changed, continue mining.
I cant give any advice to buy GPU or sell, but mining continues as it was last several years.

Just don't expand and mine on. Wait to see what eth does.

Repeat 🔁 this advice.

I did expand just a bit from 2gh to 2.7gh

I also have to say the gpu shortage is  the best thing that has ever happened to eth.

btw the coin is pushing back up 🆙 to 2k

I started to mine ETH back in 2016, was going to upgrade all my GPUs to the most efficient GPUs at the time, they were the AMD Nano (Fury) however people were saying that ETH will go POS in the summer of 2016 and all the GPUs would be useless. Just kept my old inefficient GPUs instead and POS never arrived. So it seems its been over 4 years and still nothing.

I seriously think all these posts of "POS coming to ETH" are just there to scare miners away from buying more GPUS. Many people look at the ROI and if its longer than the POS launch date they will reconsider upgrading their farm. Those that upgrade their farms and don't listen to the POS nonsense they are the ones that make it ahead.

That is a really good point.  I think ph0 ad ph1 will also be much longer than they think while they maintain the chain, while thinking about rollups.  We might even see things like ph0.1 ph0.2, or even ph1.1 ,etc via rollup delivery

I'm willing to bet $ 100 that Phase 1.5 won't be launched in 2021.
They will have to solve the problem of moving smart contracts to phase 2.0, so phase 1.5 and phase 2 must start at the same time.

For example I bought one BTC 10,000 Oct put for $88.  $88 is cheap protection and I buy a put every month since I mine a little over 1 btc a month worth of coins.  In a collapse I will be somewhat protected for one months worth of income.

In addition I might sell some btc futures if things look bad or over heated.  By selling the futures short you can earn some interest and lock in your income.  This caps both your downside and upside.

But in this bull market puts are cheap and they don't limit your upside but you give up some protection vs selling short the futures.

I'm not changing or adding any gpu's.  I have 136 gpus half were acquired 2016-2017 and half are 5700 XTs from 2019 and a few 5600 XTs from this year.  Once eth is gone everything else will get crushed.  Eth is 98% of Ethash algo, no current coin can adsorb that much power.  I do buy ASICs but they are mostly BTC and I use futures and options to hedge and add some return.

That being said Eth devs are always late and who knows what they will do.

I'd be curious to hear about your futures and options strategy

The other thing to consider is as we begin to enter eth2 ph0 -> ph1 -> ph1.5, there is a chance we might see another EIP that reduces the rewards for miners.  I have not seen or heard of any that is being considered but eth has done that several times over the years (reducing the miner rewards).

Hello everyone,

I was wondering what people think about the timing of eth2 ph1.5, which will be the last time PoW will be part of eth and PoW mining will cease as we know it.  This ofcourse will have wide spread impacts to GPU miners, not just eth miners.  if your a RVN or ETC miner for example and thinks eth going PoS wont impact you, you are wrong.  We will see massive shift in GPU hash move from eth to RVN, ETC or some other GPU mining algo.  This will drive up diff on all these other coins will which most likely make them unprofitable more than likely.

So saying all that, we are in the clear until ph1.5 gets launched.  ph0 will go live probably in Nov 2020.  If you look at the roadmap in the link, ph1 will be in 2021 and ph1.5 will almost be in 2021, at least that is the plan from the devs.  some of us are still paying off our rigs based on the ROI we went in with...  Is there any consensus when people think ph1.5 will come?  Do we really think in 2021 or given history think it will slip into 2022?  Me personally I think it will be a Q4 2021 thing with a 50/50 chance of slipping into 2022.

I am curious what others think.
