It seems like PoS has a lot of problems and seems to be a long ways away. Personally I believe in vitalik and the team and I think they can pull it off- we definitely need a more environmentally friendly alternative to pow coins

I had been thinking about the consequences of Ethereum switching to POS it and I woul like to share my thoughts and get your opinions on this.

We all know that the main innovation introduced by Ethereum is the capacity of creating different distributed applications in front of the Bitcoin network which is completely devoted to a single 'application': the transmission of value.

When switching to POS the Ethereum network will become completely self-sustained and disconnected from the physical world since miners and their hadrware won't be needed anymore. However, this means that you can create an Ethereum-like network with exact the same properties and security just by hardforking the original one. Since all the networks would be equivalent the difference would be given by the use which, in turn, would depend on the functionality deployed into them. Since the Ethereum network at present is mostly used as an investment vehicle rather than a gas-fueled dapp platform. Do you think that the original network could be overtaken as what happened with pure-POS coins Nem and Nxt (in fact Nem was just inspired in Nxt, but you know what i mean...)?
