It would be really sad if Eth would take over since it’s a centralized coin run by Erhereum Foundation which endangers the vision of crypto in it’s core.

I really would not be surprised to see an altcoin like ETH surpass bitcoin in market cap.  There's just so many coins that do more than BTC, BTC just has the fact that it was first going for it.

No way Ethereum will surpass Bitcoin. Bitcoin is most widely accepted cryptocurrency around. Ethereum is not as widely accepted as Bitcoin and inflation rate is still a problem.
Sooner or later, the supply will be higher than the demand and Ethereum price will crash.

that is for sure and i don't think that ethereum will be replace bitcoin because they are different and i think bitcoin is still bitcoin as the highest position. ethereum will compete with other coins to reach the second place or third place in the coinmarketcap and if ethereum is really good, then i think there are many investor that will join in ethereum project and make sure the ethereum project is working good..

Litecoin may surpass ethereum in 2018 and Bitcoin may be trading above $5000 in 2018 hope this happenings.  Ethereum is making a great move now and we hope it gets to $500 but not to surpass bitcoin in just next year.

NEM could surpass all of them since it's the most well known highly scalable blockchain designed to be a currency, but there are other NXT based coins like HEAT (if they'd focus on being a currency and ditch their crappy exchange) and Ardor that are good as well.  All these coins blow litecoin away when it comes to scalability.  Then you have VIA which is a cheaper version of litecoin with a good development team.

I think that both litecoin and ethereum are very promising currencies which may become more expensive than they are now. And yet I think that even though they have better technology than bitcoin, they will not surpass it in the nearest future if btc doesn't die somehow. The reason is that people are too used to bitcoin. It is a trusted currency with a lot of admirers. They don't care about altcoins, they think bitcoin is the only true crypto-currency. I think the majority of people are like this. So I guess eth and ltc can only become close to btc, but not surpass it.

I will second this. I do believe Litecoin (LTC) is heavily undervalued as of writing. Litecoin is just like bitcoin, but more advanced. There should be no reason to use bitcoin soon.

The only thing ETH may surpass Bitcoin by 2018 is market cap. ETH price only needs to jump 2 or 3 times for it to beat BTC market volume. No way it's going to get more expensive than BTC unless some real dump happens. That won't happen as more and more new people will put their money in BTC first.

Ethereum Forecast To Surpass Bitcoin By 2018

Back on  February 27, when bitcoin was trading in the mid-teens, we wrote "Step aside bitcoin, there is a new blockchain kid in town."

In recent days, the world's second most popular digital currency, Ethereum, has been surging (despite its embarrassing hack last June when some $59 million worth of "ethers" were stolen forcing the blockchain to implement a hard fork to undo the damage), prompting many to wonder if some big announcement was imminent. It appears that yet again someone "leaked" because on Monday, an alliance of some of the world's most advanced financial and tech companies including JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Intel and more than two dozen other companies teamed up to develop standards and technology to make it easier for enterprises to use blockchain code Ethereum - not bitcoin - in the latest push by large firms to move toward the holy grail of a post-central bank world in which every transaction is duly tracked: a distributed ledger systems.
Commenting on the sharp - for the time - rise in ETH price (which had moved from $13 to $15), we said "the move may be just the beginning if most corporations adopt Ethereum as the distributed ledger standard: Accenture released a report last month arguing that blockchain technology could save the 10 largest banks $8 billion to $12 billion a year in infrastructure costs — or 30 percent of their total costs in that area." Since then most corporations have indeed adopted Ethereum as the distributed ledger standard.

Three months later, and with Ethereum 15x higher at $230, Bloomberg today writes: "Step aside, bitcoin. There’s another digital token in town that’s winning over the hearts and wallets of cryptocurrency enthusiasts across the globe."

It's not just the lede that is familiar, it's everything else too, especially the forecast.

Its looks like Ethereum future looks really bright.
