Can someone who downloaded ethereum wallet tell me how long it took them?

Also i found online there is a site called shapeshift.co where you can convert bitcoin to ethereum and vice versa.  Has anyone used this site?  It does seem pretty simple.  But i have to first to download an ethereum wallet first.  Then acquire ethereum etc.

To those who downloaded ethereum wallet from ethereum.org, how long did it take to download it?  For someone that is not computer savy, would it be easy to do this and the installation?  I installed electrum when using bitcoin and i thought the process was okay.

I'm posting this question here as someone mentioned to post this in the altcoin subforum.  I ask this because i notice Ethereum price has gotten way up... its already $225 or so already.  I have heard about this and litecoin previously but didn't think much about it.  I took a look at ethereum and it was around $10 a coin earlier this year.

That means if you had bought say 100 coins, well that $1000 would be already $22500 or so.  If you bought 500 coins, that $5000 would be over $100,000 as of now.

Does anyone know if it was easy/hard to acquire ethereum earlier when it was $10?

Also where do i buy ethereum?  Also do you need like a wallet for it?  For example with bitcoin, you can leave your bitcoins on blockchain or use a wallet like electrum or armory etc on your computer etc.  From what i heard, bitcoin is much easy to understand than ethereum.

How would i go about getting ethereum?  Do i need to download a wallet on my computer like electrum?  How long would that take?  Im very interested in this as right now its around $225 or so and the thing is well... of course there is chance it can skyrocket all the way up to a lot more.

Also does anyone know much about litecoin or anything else?  I read online that there is also zcash, dash, ripper and monero as the other cryptocurrencies etc.  I want to know is it easy to buy/sell like it would similar to bitcoin.  Im also guessing the most important crytocurrency besides bitcoin would be litecoin, ethereum, then zcash?

I ask this since the prices for these seem to be very low and of course it can go all the way up etc.

In this forum many coin are "sons" of Etherum. You talk with friends of this SCAM. Do you want invest your money? Invest on UNICEF or Amnesty International. This is a good job!

P.S. Electrum is a wallet without download Bitcoin chain. But it's dangerous because your wallet hosted by web servers!

Monero, Cryptonote and Dash are good cryptocurrencies. Litecoin is obsolete. Namecoin is reborn.

hi there.  Yes i know.  But the thing is i only dealt with bitcoin.  Im not familiar with ethereum.  I would like to know if i have to download a wallet like electrum for bitcoin or not.  Or i could keep etherum in something like blockchain etc.

I also do not know where you can acquire ethereum.  I heard its much complicated than bitcoin which is why i ask this.

If you do really like to store up etherium just like on bitcoin core wallets then go here https://www.ethereum.org/ download that wallet and sync. Its all you do have to do but expect downloading the blockchain would really takes time for sure. If you do like to prefer to use exchange wallets you can actually do it but comes with a certain risk.Accumulating ETH wayback before when it was $10 was simple just buy it on exchanges.

Hi there.  How long did it take for you to download the blockchain from ethereum.org?

hi there.  Yes i heard buying ETH with btc is easier.  So you telling me they dont require verification of account if buying with btc?  If thats true, then i like this.
the verification is for fiat, as in bank transfer, using credit cards, etc.
for BTC they "usually" don't need verification.

Quote
what exchanges do you use to buy eth with btc?  Also how much fee do they charge?  Example if you want to buy $1000 worth of ETH with btc, how much btc would you have to pay?  Would you have to pay like 2 percentage so 1020 btc for 1000 eth?  Just using a flat number to make it simple.
bittrex
fees are 0.25%
if ETH is 0.08BTC then with 1BTC you can buy 12.46875 ETH considering the fee.

Quote
what wallet do you use for eth?  Is it similar to like using electrum wallet for btc on computer?  That is what i use.  If i didnt use electrum... i would use blockchain and keep btc there even though its an online wallet.
I don't hold any altcoins. not for long anyways, I just hold bitcoin and trade altcoins with it. and during the time I am trading these altcoins I keep them on the exchange wallet and just withdraw bitcoin to my cold storage when I am done.

Quote
Where is the whole wallet that i download from called?  How long would it take to download it?  I would definitely prefer this as oppose to keeping it on a web wallet or exchange.
for any altcoin you have to check their official announcement, website to find out download links.

Quote
So getting altcoins are holding them isn't good idea?  Im confused why.  So many ppl dont think it would ever go very high like bitcoin did?  What sites do you use to trade btw?  Also are you from the usa?  Reason i ask is because if you are from another country, well then it would be different as the exchanges you use would be different.
that is just my approach. you can buy and hold them.
I personally prefer taking less risk and only have my main long term investment in bitcoin and in this time only use altcoins temporarily to increase that holding.
no I am not in US. and I am using bittrex and c-cex and cryptopia but mainly in bittrex for trading. they usually don't restrict from which country you are coming but it is a good idea to check out their ToS or ask the support.

Hi there.  Is that the wallet most people use for ethereum?  How many different wallets are there like that for ETH?  For example with bitcoin, theres electrum, armory and a lot more.  So curious what is the best one for it.  But would prefer something very similar to like electrum for bitcoin.

When you say it was simple buying ETH when it was $10, which exchanges are you talking about?  So ETH wasn't hard to acquire when it first came out?  I had thought it was because i heard something like ICO etc?
And yes i prefer a wallet on the computer like electrum with bitcoin as oppose to exchange.

you have only heard about ethereum because they advertise it a lot and do it all over the internet!
otherwise there have been a lot more altcoins that have gone up a lot more than ethereum had percentage-wise.

so if it is profit that you are looking for then a lot of altcoins are a choice for you.

That means if you had bought say 100 coins, well that $1000 would be already $22500 or so.  If you bought 500 coins, that $5000 would be over $100,000 as of now.
exactly what I meant by "percentage-wise". if you invested $1000 in another shitcoin that had gone up 6000% (a lot more than ETH had) you could have made it into $61,000.

and in the same period of time ETH has gone up only 600% meaning $1000 turns into $7000

similar to all other altcoins you go to a trading platform and buy these. and it is super easy to buy these with bitcoin and a bit harder with fiat since you have to verify your account.

Quote
....

you buy altcoins from exchanges
you can mine them also if you have good hardware and cheap electricity
you keep them in their wallet, which would be something similar to what bitcoin core is (not exactly but it is a good comparison considering size).
most of them don't have SPV wallets such as electrum so you either have to download their whole wallet (blockchain) and store it on your computer or use web wallets or exchanges to risk and store them which is not recommended at all.
also altcoins are good for trading only. don't try to keep holding them for long, if you want to start with them just learn what trading is and do that. otherwise stay away because you WILL lose money.

Hi there.  What are the online wallets for ethereum?  You mean similar to like blockchain for bitcoin right?

I use electrum for bitcoin.  I would definitely like something like this for ethereum.  Or would it be better to use just an online wallet?  What would be preferred?

For me, i wouldn't mind keeping my bitcoin in blockchain as that site i recall is easy to use.  But i got used to electrum wallet for btc so i use that.

Try trading sites, Ethereum is just like any other altcoins, just one of the uprising ones Smiley

I recommend Poloniex, Bittrex, and even CoinBase have an Ethereum wallet there, so if you prefer online wallets, you can go for them. Otherwise, you may take a look at MyEther too.

If you are interested in WAVES, check out my signature and their wallet for a start! Cheesy
