It's funny because they want to check things because they may contain illegal stuff. Since when is that allowed by international law? The police can't search you because they think you MIGHT have something illegal. They need probable cause. The same with a car or a house, they can't enter unless they see or hear something that suggests a crime being committed. For instance if they see you standing in the window with a gun, aiming at people outside they can enter even if you haven't shot anyone yet and the gun is fake, but they can't enter to check if you have a gun at home.
This stupid EU law allows them to spy on people without that probable cause just to see if there isn't anything illegal in their conversations. Just wait until they decide that holding bitcoin without disclosing it to the authorities is illegal and start checking your internet searches for anything bitcoin related to see if you're a holder.

All politicians ever accomplish is to erode the rights and freedoms of law abiding citizens.  Criminals don't care about the politicians or their laws, that's what makes them criminals.   Cool

I see this as contradictory to data protection legislation, which goes to absurd lengths. Now they are coming up with another absurdity, a big brother of communications for a supposedly good cause, of course, and which will not be used to stop criminals, who will move to other, more secure forms of communication, but for total control of the population. There has already been a first proposal for legislation on this which was defeated, and hopefully will be again.

Ironically, I could see criminals learning how to use PGP and other asymmetric cryptography tools for them to continue to operate far away from the radar of authorities, while the common population would feel those tools not to be easy to use, in the end, I agree with you, it is not about stopping criminals, otherwise, the authorities would not treat all of us as criminals and put on the table these laws which are dragonian and argueagly, against the human rigths of all of us.
This is an issue which I would consider to be more serious than the neutrality of the internet, by the way... which was restored, If I recall correctly.

The decision has been postponed for an undetermined period of time. Again and again.

The reason for the repeated postponement is not yet known?  However, in present day politics they deprive the people of their rights in various ways by resorting to lies. They got elected with the current fraudulent vote and started to push the people again and again.

Use PGP, instead of relying on a company for your privacy.

Today, EU politicians are deciding on our freedom and our right to privacy. The date for the vote has been postponed several times. Today is the last day to decide. Keep your fingers crossed that the EU politicians do not betray their citizens (= slaves).
