I think English clubs were wise during their withdrawal from the European super League. There is a great deal of interaction regarding this new league, which is said to be devastating to football, especially the European Champions League.

It looks like a split in European football is beginning to emerge, 12 clubs already have an agreement. But the last news I heard was that Chelsea out from the European Super League. In fact, they do not oppose and replace the UCL or the UEFA Cup this league can side by side with existing leagues. But it seems that UEFA and FIFA are threatening the players who take part in this cometition to be banned from participating in official FIFA matches such as the world cup.

Thank you for this historical thread but it's a pity you didn't update it since October 2020, it would be interesting to follow the evolution of the genesis of this legendary league.

There was nothing much to update because these teams mostly talked behind closed doors about this closed Super League project.

UEFA today announced new plan for forming Europe Conference league and new format of competition starting from season 2024/2025 in addition to Champions League and Europa league and I guess rich clubs are not happy with share of money they are getting, so they decided to break away.
I am watching Chelsea match now against Brighton and I am thinking their average performance may be the result of this Super league talks and potential ban for clubs and players.
Chelsea fans said they don't want Super League, protesting in front of training center, and Chelsea announced they are coming out of SL organisation board.

I once discussed in @JollyGood thread about the European Super League.

This is not good for the Champions League, in the European Super League competition it will have a bad effect on other leagues, the aim is to bring down the Champions League as we know it is global, it's really bad if it works.

I think UEFA should take this issue seriously, the more serious ones are: Liga Eruopa, Man Utd, Arsenal. This should be questioned: The European Super League is currently in the public eye, but they are actually the frontrunners, this is the worst bomb that will happen in world football this century.

What an utter joke of a league. Purely done so the rich club owners can line their pockets and an absolute scandal. There is nothing sporting about a league with a fixed set of teams that can never be relegated. It is all about securing money for this small set of teams who will stop smaller clubs from advancing or being able to share a part of the current league earnings with the largest teams around. I am not a big fan of UEFA or FIFA, but right now would support them in whatever blocking actions were needed to stop this fragmentation of the game. If that requires banning players from international or other leagues then so be it, they will quickly learn that they are behaving totally unacceptably and their greed will cost them a lot more than they can make now. A few selfish club owners who don't want to share the profits should not ruin the game for hundreds of millions of people.

The European Super League idea has been around for couple of years but never had much attention in public until Barcelona announced they accepted invitation.
This should be direct rival to UEFA Champions League and many claim that FIFA is behind this

It would include only the richest and most powerful clubs that wants to earn more money in closed style competition format.
FIFA supposed to be governing body, and it is expected that this league will have up to 18 teams.
It is planned that the European Super League should start in 2022 and main sponsor could be JP Morgan.

Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed Barcelona have accepted a proposal to join a future European Super League after announcing his resignation as the club's president:
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11833/12116238/barcelona-president-josep-maria-bartomeu-and-board-resign

We can see that Liverpool and Manchester United are also in talks for FIFA-backed tournament European Super League:
https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12109174/european-premier-league-liverpool-and-manchester-united-in-talks-for-fifa-backed-tournament

This is the list of speculated clubs, without any official confimation:

1. England – Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea
2. Spain – Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid
3. Italy – Juventus, Milan, Internazionale
4. Germany – Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund
5. France – Paris Saint-Germain
6. Portugal – FC Porto
7. Netherlands – Ajax
8. Belgium – Anderlecht
9. Greece – Olympiacos
10. Turkey – Galatasaray
11. Russia – CSKA Moscow
12. Ukraine – Dynamo Kyiv
13. Sweden – IFK Göteborg

UEFA said that idea for European Super League is boring:

Do you think this is good idea or it will only damage this sport and Champions League?

As we can see FIFA agreed with the formation of this new league, so it's a little bit surprising to read now statements saying clubs and even players participating to this European Super League could be banned from FIFA competitions... Moreover I am convinced that FIFA has not the right to prohibit players from being enrolled in their national teams just because they would have participated to competitions of this new super league. I don't think it would be legal and courts would endorse that.

Topic of European Super League is again hot topic and it's getting serious so much that UEFA, English Football Association, Premier League, Spanish Football Federation, LaLiga, Italian Football Federation and Serie A, all made joined statement claiming that all clubs who join this European Super League will be expeled from domestic leagues and all other competitions, and players from this clubs will also be banned.

European Super League had plans to include six English clubs Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham, with six more clubs from other leagues include Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus.
Bundesliga and French Ligue One refused to take any part in this Super League creation.

The Premier League condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid.

Fans of any club in England and across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top and play against the best. We believe that the concept of a European Super League would destroy this dream.

The Premier League is proud to run a competitive and compelling football competition that has made it the most widely watched league in the world. Our success has enabled us to make an unrivalled financial contribution to the domestic football pyramid.

A European Super League will undermine the appeal of the whole game, and have a deeply damaging impact on the immediate and future prospects of the Premier League and its member clubs, and all those in football who rely on our funding and solidarity to prosper.

We will work with fans, The FA, EFL, PFA and LMA, as well as other stakeholders, at home and abroad, to defend the integrity and future prospects of English football in the best interests of the game.

What a hilarious league. They only care about the money come from audiences and the media. There is no such thing call real football in this league.

Manchester United? What a joke. No matter how many trophies they won in the past, they can't escape the reality that right now, they are one of the worst teams but hold a bunch of money. They have spent a lot of money but fail in finding a spot in the top 4 of Premier League

I dislike this league. I have heard so so many times that England teams facing injuries and adynamia cause of playing too many matches in such a short time. Why dont they try to find a solution to this problem? I guess the only things high organizations care about is finding as much money from players as they can

Instead of doing this shit, perhaps they should invest their money for football institutes in Africa where many many great talents do not have a chance to play in a high league. Doing so might take a long period of time but in the next 20 or 30 years, they can receive a tremendous amelioration on this continent. And also giving chances for people to change their life. There are many inspiring stories of football players which ones return to their nation and contribute money and efforts. If only a person can do such things, why does an organization fail in developing football for the younger generation in third world countries?
