Why in the world would you redeem your Private Key to your wallet on MTGOX?

I believe that feature was to redeem the 'Physical Coin' private keys, not your wallets. But hey, the same rule applies if it can be done; it will be done.

Assuming that the key in question is for a transaction with at least 6 confirmations, it should happen pretty much instantly, or most with a single block delay.

I hope there isn't a new unknown exploit that steals BTC from your wallet as I have a few on my MBP somewhere.

Oh... or you could give them the key and then later receive to that address and the coins would be taken by GoX? Do they do that? Constantly monitor and credit you?
I think it's because MtGox doesn't necessarily guarantee that those coins will stay at that address, just that your account will be credited with those coins.  It doesn't matter if they move from that address, just so long as they don't move from your MtGox account.

But yeah, I wouldn't add a private key to your wallet that has also been redeemed at MtGox or weird stuff like this will happen.

So.. your client was off, you redeemed a key at Gox, days later turned the client on and saw coins disappear when the chain caught up? That makes sense.

Well, today I had something worrying happen to me, I saw 3.6BTC get sent from my bitcoin client without me doing anything, which ended with me tracing IP's linked to the address, googling the address and everything.
The answer is, I couldn't figure it out, BUT I was thinking that I might have redeemed one of my addresses privkeys into mtgox... Even though there was no signs anywhere in mtgox, eventually after 6 confirms it showed up.
So tl;dr; If you see bitcoins disappear from your wallet... you might wanna check your mtgox...especially if you've ever redeemed your privkey there.
