Topic: Everyone left - bitcointalk has 'jumped the shark' (Read 2427 times)

I was here a couple years ago and a lot has changed.  It occurs to me that as far as topics are concerned, time is an enemy.  There will always be announcements of various things and there will always be the "warning" posts about this site and that.  The things is that Bitcoin, although the price comes and goes is basically unchanged.  Think about it.  If I or anyone downloads an off-line wallet, they get the same block-chain that downloaded in 2010 or even 2009. 

I guess I have two points here, one on topic and one a little off-topic.  On topic I am just saying that any one subject, followed for several years is going to run a little dry.  I guess it is like a man and woman married for years that run out of new stuff to talk about.

A little off topic...I have my moments when I love history.  Not the study part, but going somewhere where someone famous sat or talked or whatever.  In the Navy I was in Egypt on leave and I thought about the fact that I was standing on ground that the very first people walked on.  I sometimes get that feeling with the block-chain.  The very first transactions are right there every time you interact with the chain.  I need to do some research on the forks, maybe someone reading this knows.  I assume that the first transaction was between Satoshi and another person, are we still on that very same block-chain or maybe on the first fork of it.  I know that Satoshi was less interested in the wallet/currency part of Bitcoin and more interested in proving and working with the Generals Riddle.  Anyway, I think it is time for some Googling on what those first transactions are.  Either way, I have six year old twins and it would be very cool if when they are older they use Bitcoin.  I have done maybe four hundred TX's and they will be right there in the same block-chain my kids use.

Its what two old couples do when its all been said,they bicker with one another to pass the time. Seems to be a problem because one usually will have to bow out and lick their wounds or just leave. It slowly makes the tree smaller and smaller,in a sense like bitcoin.

After reading previous posts by our some of respected Legendary Members,I think those threads are better than their posts I dont intend to pick fight with anyone or blame any individual but why is it that some old members keep fighting with each other and keep accusing eachother?Hasn't this also brought the forum down?

Stop accepting selling accounts on this forum. People have more accounts to post all day so they could sell them after period of time. You see all around the forum new created accounts posting the biggest crap you can think about.

Man I have not been to a rave since I lived in Calgary years back and the Vietnamese would stand in the middle and start stabbing people. Or maybe that was the drugs I was on that made me think that. Bit early in the day for a Rave,or is it because its Patties day?

Forum is bad for a few reasons,the witchhunts as sucessful as they maybe are scaring people from getting involved and politics forum can look a bit racist at times. Add in the spam and you got little to talk about without getting backdoored.

There are forums even worse than this one and one of the reason this forum is popular and is active is because of that rubbish posts (which is a sad thing to say). With the Ignore/Block option, it gets easier to read only meaningful threads while the other forums that are filled with nonsense don't even have this option.

We tend to see ourselves in things sometimes but rest assured that there are those here who do not fit your description in the slightest.

I do agree, the quality of the contents here has dropped to zero.... there are still some few interesting threads and users but the majority of the 'community' is posting only because they are paid.

If you are trying to say my posts are becoming less intelligent, then I'll take your words in heart with the hatred behind them, and I'll be sad you can't be helped.

Merely mentioning your name in a thread with you in the title is not equivalent to attacking you. If you don't like people discussing your bad behavior maybe stop acting like a stalker. Quickseller is a douchebag and I would have nothing to do with him even for the likes of exposing you. I know in your mind we are all collaborating to get you though. You should talk to your doctor about getting your meds adjusted, they are losing effect.

This place is very different then what it used to be. I would say that I am especially tired of the drama surrounding the block size debate. I do have a side that I believe is right in this debate, however regardless of the outcome, the drama surrounding the debate is annoying and is turning me off in wanting to continue to participate in the community and be involved in Bitcoin in general. I think that theymos should try to do more to bring the community together to get more of the various stakeholders and community to agree how to move forward to scale Bitcoin.

I'm so "bored" with my life I hardly have time to come here anymore more often than once every few days.  Retirement with money is fun - which a lot of you will find out when you eventually cash in your coins like I did.

It does seem the "forum scapegoats" and "Quickscammers" are taking over this forum with many multiple accounts.  Post a lie enough times and people believe it.

This place certainly isn't the same as it was a few years ago.

One shining light in this forum is Lauda - the moderation skills have been excellent and that account gives me hope for the future of this forum.

That happens with time and with increased audience from all over the world, it would be lower from before when it used to be a technical highly specialized forum. Consider it a part of the main stream adoptin people involved with bitcoin are talking about always.

I do agree the quality of this forum has been tanking since 2013... I think mostly due to the non-stop signature spammers here. I know that I wear a signature myself, but I do not spam.

I agree that the quality of most of the threads is very low, but that's mainly due to the newer "not so smart" forum members.

I think it's a normal happening. There is nothing we can do about it.

joke aside the real problem is that there is nothing left anymore to discuss, all have been discussed, so it's normal to have heavy repeating of the same argument

You can just click "ignore" which I do on some threads.

But thats no other alternative really to make up your ignore list like some people do. I only press ignore if a thread is going on a flamming rant for no reason.

No. The policy is Altcoins in the Altcoin section and it was always like this. This is a privately owned forum, either accept the rules or go somewhere else. The forum can not change rules for each user. Additionally, you're looking at the wrong places if you want to read more meaningful discussions around here.

Has this site been down the last couple hours. Looking at a few of the boards, the activity is virtually nil. Am I the only person left on the planet? If so, where did you guys hide the donuts, the ones with the holes?

The new rules state that one can't merely start a "jumped the shark" thread sans an animated GIF of The Fonz jumping the shark.

All forums change through time.  And those that get REALLY POPULAR often do get lower average quality posts, Zero Hedge being a great example.

Since I only know just about certain pieces of Bitcoinistan (and comment on pretty much just those threads pertaining), I do not know about whether bitcointalk.org fits re quality decline.

I can tell everyone that I have learned a lot, and appreciate very much the positive comments and nuggets of wisdom I pick up around here.

I incline to agree but this is a place where I started so it is natural for me to visit and type when I have some free time.

But sometime there are still quite a number of good discussions which I benefited from in terms of updates and knowledge.

I've stopped looking at threads if they have got more than a couple of dozen replies. I've started brushing up my html and css as well, so I really only have time to post in threads that I find interesting. I agree that the same old sig campaign posters bumping low merit posts means that I don't get past the index pages on most visits.

Have to agree with OP and with this although I'm obviously in the Yobit campaign.   And try to criticize any mods and you get crucified.   This forum is entrenched in bullshot.

One can always go to the altcoin forum to see what's been sensor-shipped.

As a longtime lurker I can say that intelligent discourse ended a couple years ago when signature campaigns took over.

The signal-to-noise ratio is definitely lower than we would like it to be, but quantity has a quality all its own.

Well I haven't seen that, I have seen a lot of threads very critical of blockstream that remain.

I think right now there is a lot of passion about the attempt by business interests to take over development. Some believe that already happened with blockstream, some believe it is coinbase et. al. attempting it now.

I have heard of Blockstream, but haven't been around Bitcoin much lately:

There is nothing but bitches and punks left on this forum.  The quality of the threads has gone to zero.  With all the censorship and strife in Bitcoin - I guess everyone quit trying to have intelligent discourse here.  Every thread is the same meaningless bullshit for over 6 months now.  'How to get girls to use bitcoin'; 'do you know how I can have 1 bitcoin?'; 'Bitcoin and Porn'  Lots of very dumbass bullshit.
