Once you get over a 5-6 antminers, the BTU's are really going to kick in and it's going to be like an oven. Once you reach that level, consider moving into a datacenter, a couple days of mining would cover your costs at that point. For just a few antminers, you should circulate the air at a minimum, some floor fans, etc.

Be careful with the floor fans though if you run them 24x7, make sure you put a smoke detector near by. One of my customers was running a floor fan 24x7 in his "mining shed" and it started shooting sparks after a few months. Shocked

Household outlets are usually shared throughout several rooms. In the US, the sockets are 120V and consolidate back to 15A circuits in the panel. Kitchen appliances and other large appliances usually go back to two 20A circuits. Also, you can't max out a breaker, code only allows 80 % of its rated load.

To calculate how many amp's you could pull: amps = watts/volts. So, 8.3A = (1000W power supply / 120V wall socket). Note that I said, "could pull", most of the time you're not going to use the entire wattage on a power supply, but the potential is here.

General rule of thumb:
15A = 1440 watts (80% max load)
20A = 1920 watts (80% max load)

Be careful that your panel is up to code, there's known issues with certain panels not tripping breakers and overloading current in wires or using aluminum wiring. This is usually how house fires start with "wiring problems" when the wrong gauge is used, etc.

I'm by no means an electrician either, just picked up the knowledge over the years by tradesmen.

I would really like to buy 4 more and put all 6 antminers in my room but I don't think the electric circuit in my room can handle it. Most household room circuits are about 15 amps right? ...and I think that only supports about 3 antminers safely. I could put more in the washer/dryer room since it has a 50 amp circuit but I think the heat output of the miners could be problematic during this upcoming summer since there is no ventilation in that area, in terms of personal comfort for the rest of the apartment. I agree, Bitmain just really gave a huge much needed boost to the mining ecosystem. They came in and said "Hey look, see all these thigns that are shipping NEVER? We will ship the shit out of these and sell them in a similarly deflating price model. I fucking love it, and if I would say so myself, now is the time to buy them. I just bought three, and am thinking about ditching my scrypt miners to have 5 running in my house. Going straight from mining into your wallet and then going out on the town and spending bitcoin makes me so giddy I can't even contain it. Fucking Antminers.... you may have just made me pull the trigger on my last two... HERE WE GO BABY!

After getting cornholed by BFL's Jalapenos last year, I opted to buy bitcoins this year instead. But... I was missing something... Bitcoins just aren't the same without the mining. So... I just ordered two Antminers S1's from Bitmain for 2.17btcs and a 850 corsair psu from tigerdirect for 0.29btc. This is what bitcoins are for me, the mining. Otherwise, the fun of it is just not there.
