Yeah thanks for your advice guys
Was a little quick in ordering but hay I soon will be mining our electric costs are zero as it's combined in our rent.

The motherboard can hold two more cards!! so which cards would you buy?

Might want to check the temperatures that the 2 cards put out before adding another 2 more. They're so close together. The bottom one might be heating up the other card.

If they are the single fan XFX black edition XXX, the top card should be regularly going to 102*C and throttling while mining. Trust me. I have one. My hashrate increased by 20-30MH/s when I took out the 5770 I had right below it. It's still hitting on 95*C now that summer is approaching.

I'm really surprised, in your analysis, you forgot to mention

Why the fuck are those cards crossfired together?

The OC'd i5 and the CF cables tell a pretty clear story that this was a mid-range gaming PC. I've tried it both ways, and I end up getting the same hashrate with CF on or off, so it's not a big deal.

Is this what you are considering purchasing?
http://blog.wculver.com/uncategorized/for-sale-dragon-bitcoin-litecoin-mining-rig-dual-gpus-overclocked-built-for-max-power-efficiency-340w/

To be frank, this is a total crap design for Bitcoin or Litecoin mining.

  • Why would a miner want to pay for an expensive case?
  • The 6xxx series are the worst for mining. Especially Bitcoin mining, efficiency-wise
  • Core i5 quad core does not benefit mining. Mining BTC or LTC needs a cheap single core processor. The i5 is a waste of power and money.
  • 8GB is useful for LTC mining but not BTC mining
  • It looks like an old gaming computer than a mining machine
  • I don't for a second believe 350W from the wall claimed. See power note below.
  • If the cards in the picture are the ones I think they are, I have one. It has the shittiest cooler in the world.

That is my analysis of that machine.

Ideally what you want is 7xxx or 5xxx parts with a cheap CPU and a cheap case or no case.

why not amd fusion processor? extra hashes from the iGPU Smiley cpu speed not very important imo. I got 112mh/s on the 5800k's GPU when mildly overclocked but no need to get black edition, A10-5700 is a bit cheaper & has the same GPU

as for the PSU, get a 600/650w 80+ gold one? aim for 50% load on your PSU for max efficiency

Got a little excited in the sun and made a bid and WON!!
I do have 120 g/h coming from BFL but in the mean time I want to learn more and start mining bitcoins and lite coins .
I was going to get the bits and try build it from scratch! But as this is done nicely I could not help my self.
So I was wondering what you think of this set up !?
How much hashing would I get from mining bitcoin and lite coin at the same time today's price?
And there is no electrical cost as that priced into my rent.

I do have lots more questions and lots more homework to do on this !!
But would love to know what you pro's think.

Dragon Bitcoin / Litecoin Mining Rig. Dual GPUs, Overclocked & Built for Max Power Efficiency (340W)

This is a lovingly put together rig built for bitcoin mining enthusiasts or hard core gamers. The parts in this rig were picked specifically for Mhash/sec per Watt at the lowest possible price. You will not find a more electrically efficient GPU set up for the cost. The killer module in this rig is the Gold Certified PSU by XFX. This is rated to 1250W peak but with both cards cranking away it pulls less than 350 Watts from the wall due to its efficiency (see below).
The Processor is a Quad Core i5 with an unlocked multiplier for overclocking. The motherboard has a UEFI bios with full graphical interface for easy overclocking. Please note: Overclock has been fully tested but is turned off when shipping as the software is tweaked for Bitcoin mining only. You don't need a CPU overclock unless you plan on mining Litecoin at the same time. (See software setup)

Features
In-Win Dragon Slayer Midi Tower Case
XFX 1250W Black Edition Pro '80+ Gold' Certified Modular Power Supply
Dual XFX Radeon HD 6950 Graphics Cards in CrossFire Configuration
Dual 120mm Akasa Case Fans in Side panel, mounted directly beside GPU's for enhanced cooling
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Processor (Stable OVERCLOCK TO > 4GHz) (77Watts T.D.P.)
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 M Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
2no Custom blanking plates in side panel for improved case airflow with custom washers and chrome screws
TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit RAM
Akasa Venom CPU Cooler
Full Cable Management
Includes Bootable USB (16GB Corsair) Drive fully loaded with everything you need to start mining bitcoins (See software below).
Includes All spare parts included with the Motherboard, Case & GPU's
Mining Rate: 720 Mhash/sec without GPU Overclocking!

Software Configuration
This rig comes with a bespoke Arch Linux Operating System with Phoenix Bitcoin Mining software pre-installed and configured for maximum efficiency. I have written custom thermal monitoring scripts for both GPU's and CPU which display on the Window Manager. The Graphical UI installed is 'i3: Window Manager' an extremely minimalistic interface to capitalize on every spare GPU cycle.
Extra
I have put a lot of care and work into this project and am starting the bid off at just a fraction higher than the raw parts cost. Parts were bought from Overclockers.co.uk last week and all receipts and warranties will be included. I will also be including most of the packaging and extra parts not used such as motherboard manual, PSU cables etc. I will also be including a 'Getting Started' document (writen by me) which includes full instructions on how to start mining bitcoins with a few simple commands. Evidence of power usage claims are available on request along with screenshots of Mining rate (Mhash/sec).
