Look, people.  China says a lot of things.

They are not going to "ban VPN's".  It wouldn't even be possible long term.  Also, they've said this for literally the last decade.  Too much at risk for their high and middle class business people.  They even stated at one point that "we allow the use of VPN's for that sector of people"  Roll Eyes Cheesy

Come here for a year or two, and see the reality of China for yourself, or stop stating things you don't know as certainties.

It is, however, quite possible for them to mess with withdrawals + certain aspects of traffic.  They control much of how that goes down.  Money.  That's why this is such a touchy issue with them.

Is this is true, expect more dip tonight, for sure.  If anyone finds out, post it here!

The fact of the matter is, anyone in Mainland China with enough to do blow on more than a few Bitcoins, definitely has an exit outside of the "Great Firewall" (which is actually quite weak, considering.)

I do like a good juicy piece of gossip.  Will be interesting to watch what's really happening in terms of that rumored paper.

You should go to weibo and ask there. And then come back here with the answer. I simply do not get how people are still buying Bitcoins in exchange if they can't make any deposit.

Chinese Investors to Trade Bitcoin Over-The-Counter Via Telegram As Chinese-based bitcoin exchanges plan to shut down, bitcoin investors are taking their trading elsewhere. They will now focus on broker-facilitated, over-the-counter exchanges.
Prior to exchange shutdown notices, most traders conducted OTC exchanges on Weechat messenger. As a result of government crackdowns on Weechat users, bitcoiners have made an exodus over to privacy-centric messaging app Telegram.  https://t.co/adjMHJp8Z5

China will try to ban all the VPN in 2018.
I do not know if that is really possible from a technical point of view, but I think they would not announce it if they had not a realistic plan.
So using a VPN in China might be impossible in the near future.

I'm a European, who might relocate to China soon. As a cryptocurrency trader, what can I expect?

I know the Chinese exchanges are in the process of shutting down. However, will I have access to international exchanges? Or will I need a VPN for that? What else do I need to take into account as an expat trader in China?
Since the ban is just a speculation ,it is certain that they will be banning the exchanges for a while until they regulate everything, you could use a VPN to bypass even if they filter every other site and continue as normal and that is how people in China is bypassing the restriction imposed on the internet users.Just subscribe to a good VPN before reaching China and then you will be good to go .

I second this. There is nothing to worry, just use a VPN. Anyway, VPN is handy to surf other websites such as Facebook in China.

China has NOT banned bitcoin and they have NOT banned bitcoin trading. so you can simply trade bitcoin anywhere else you want. for example on poloniex, bittrex, ... that have USDT (tether) to trade. or use other exchanges such as bitfinex and bitstamp if you can deposit USD fiat and withdraw. or in case you want to deposit bitcoin, trade, and keep profit in bitcoin and withdraw bitcoin you won't even need to bother with fiat.

there is also over the country trading and things such as using localbitcoins. it is perfectly legal to do it.

I'm not sure about this, but isn't international cryptocurrency exchanges blocked by China's great firewall? If not, they're probably gonna be blocking it soon. So I would assume OP's definitely gonna need a decent VPN to access those exchanges.

Also, there are rumors about China planning on blocking bitcoin. I repeat. It's a rumor.

I'm here.  It's fine.  Get AstrillVPN with the Stealth add-on so you have multiple servers / platforms.  I also use ExpressVPN as an "oh shit" backup is Astrill goes down across all platforms, which isn't often...usually only around Chinese New Year.  Be aware, the internet is mostly shit outside Tier 1 cities, and even then.  We're talking like 56.k modem style sometimes with a VPN.  Can't even upload a photo sometimes.
