I recently also experienced strange trades via bank transfer, when selling. There are a number of indicators, that the person is not the one he/she claims to be, even though they seem to have access to the bank account and copies of passports. In 2 cases, where I am not yet sure if they are fraudulent, the buyers had an account from a charity organization. Each time, the account was also freshly created and had no history. Answers were sometimes rude, when too many questions were asked. I fear that there might be police investigations following the trades, due to stolen identities and online banking credentials.

I got "Lost connection, reconnecting..." error when I tried to handle a trade, and no matter what browser, pc, mobil phone I tried, it does not work. And when I tried to put ETH in escrow, the browser works so hard that I wonder what it really does out there, so I closed that browser then not able to login again

Yeah, Scams definitely can happen if you're not careful. I've been trading on localethereum for about a month now & i've amassed over 60+ trades. Here's my experience;

Paypal is extremely high risk. So high in fact that the website recommends not using the payment platform at all, but accepts that you're going to anyways, because that's where you can make quick money if you're careful & lucky. When i was selling in the paypal market, i kept my margins high and required ID verification on trades over $50. under $50 i let slide without ID, because nobody wants to verify their id (for their stolen paypal account) It goes without saying, charge backs DO happen. I was able to win a dispute against me for $500 because i had their ID who's name and address matched their paypal account. But this was lucky. My paypal account is now limited with $1000 in it for 180 days. But i did make a couple bucks.

E-Transfers are MUCH lower risk, especially if you ask for ID verification. Though i have heard horror stories, i have yet to be scammed once with an e-transfer. The down side, is that people aren't going to buy them for a high margin.

I've also recently started accepting Credit/Debit/Prepaid cards using Square. so far it seems safe & Square has told me directly that i'm not violating any of their terms of use by accepting money for crypto currencies, in fact they encouraged me to use their app to buy bitcoin. The staff seem A LOT more reasonable than Paypal & i have high hopes for this paytype.

In general, I love the website Localethereum. The escrow service is simple, the wallet is simple, though it can be confusing at first, Everything about the website is simple. I've set my phone up to receive notifications via SMS so i never miss a trade. I've even made a trade one time from my phone, while in the shower. it's that easy.

On top of that, the support always reply with really good responses. Never do i feel like i've just been shrugged off. They always treat me nice.

The most important part about localethereum that i think makes it great, is that you genuinely can't get scammed unless you let yourself. Your ETH is always safe. The game is so simple, just stock up while it's low and sell when it goes up.

Hello everyone a few days ago a came across a localbitcoins look alike called localethereum ...its a decentralized p2p exchange platform and actually it has people offering good services but scammers are always present anywhere. This a warning to all the people that are thinking of using the site. This is my story.

I was looking for a quick way to make some few extra bucks so i found a way of buying ether at a low price and selling it at a higher price. I found a way through paypal(I know am dumb dont tell me) So i was skeptical at first because there is no way a person could be buying ether at an above market price unless he has some he stole the paypal account or has bad motives but i had some 150bucks to spare and test my theory...we transacted and by the end i had 200 which is 50 bucks in profit i was happy but still knew there was a possibility of a chargeback (its paypal for God's sake and am dealing with digital assests )...so i never traded with the guy again and waited for at least one month so that i can know if its legit or shit...after 6 days(today) i got a paypal dispute that the funds were sent without the senders approval and that i provide proof of shipment and shit....i did provide the escrows site proof but i think it wont be enough so am going to loose the funds...I contacted localethereum support to know if the scammer will be dealt with or if i will get my funds back...all blame goes to me because i got greedy and did not listen to all the warnings..Anyway i lost so that you may not lose your hard earned cash and maybe something good will come out of this..

Watchout for the all the others with a rate above average or avoid paypal as mentioned on the site and you should be good to go.

I will always strive to warn guys occassionally to avoid such issues from happening to anyone else.

Are they the same developers who made localbitcoins or are they completely different?

To my knowledge they are a completely different group.

How are disputed resolved at their platform?

They have a support ticketing service like any other platform. They seem to be pretty reliable, may give it a try.

I think this is interesting, where the user can directly choose where he is now. I have not tried it yet, but I am interested to try it. Before I try to transact there, I will not believe it.
Thanks for the information, it's worth a try.

As I know, this platform was launced on October, 21. Since that time over 15 000 of people started to use it as they believe into its efficiency and trust Localethereum.
The platform developers claim that Localethereum will become the safest cryptocurrency exchanger. However, the service is not free — it charges 0.25% from sellers, and 0.75% from buyers. It can be trusted.

Hello All,
I am interested in Localethereum platform. I believe that it can represent a valid alternative to other exchanges accepting fiat like Kraken and Coinbase.

I have studied the rationale behind their smart contract and it seems pretty solid:
  • The seller deposit ethers in the platform
  • the buyer send fiat currency to the vendor
  • as soon as the buyer receives the transaction, he can release ethers to the buyer

The Localethereum team jump in only if there are disputes, otherwise, all the communications between seller and buyers are private.

What do you think about this mechanism?
Did you try the platform?
Can I trust it?
