Then you are welcome to try and find exploits in the bitcoin code, or even in a very common wallet such as electrum(if you remember, someone was managed to find an exploit in electrum just a few weeks ago), so it will benefit the whole community.
I assume that it will be much more possible to find an exploit on an opensource community project such as Decentralized exchanges,or public wallets, other then finding an exploit on an actual coin and you can start from that.

Thank you! I was thinking the same thing. It does not have to be the actual coin - it could be a project based on it: wallets, exchanges, gateways...
Maybe, I should change the question in the thread to better reflect what I want to do.

There's no way that you will be able to attack one of the first hundered coins unless you are going to spend years on that,Most of those coins are based on bitcoin/ethereum, and there is no way to find a security flew on one of them, you should find a coin that is not based on one of those blockchains and maybe start from that, I can almost guerentee that if that coin has a decent community there's no way to find a security breach easily.
I believe that even if you find one, you won't be able to steal funds or to obtain new tokens from that, it will be just somehting minor that maybe will put you at the hall of fame of the coin's history but won't actually get you any value.

I can afford to spend years on it, within my multiple-year training, as my area of specialization.
It does not have to be easy or trivially valuable. I will do it to obtain knowledge and to prevent further exploitation.

Dear white-hat helpers,

I am learning ethical hacking. My specialization is cryptocurrencies' security. I would like to choose the most important cryptocurrencies, whose projects I will support with my contribution.

It does not have to be an actual coin - it could be any project based on it: wallets, exchanges, gateways...

I would like to receive suggestion in private message. I expect the following format:

Code:
Experience in cryptocurrency trading (~months):
Used exchanges:
Suggested projects:
Network they are based on:
Why are they important?:
