That would be only a partial solution, because those who spam links do so for the reason that they are paid for shilling those links. Paid signature (if they have it) is just an additional source of income. However, I agree that it is necessary to find a way to prevent those with bad intentions from abusing the forum (all boards), instead of moving in the direction of closing boards - although this is the easiest thing to do.
What we may forget is the fact that we will only move the problem from one board to another board, because for some members the whole forum is one big Press board in terms of posts consisting of several c/p sentences and sources.
That's why I added then "Reinforced with the criteria of a "notable" source as it's advised somewhere in the guidelines"
- Signature spaces removed: it will avoid the users posting there only with the goal to 'spam' because they participate in a signature campaign. Since they won't be rewarded, they won't post.
- Notable sources: it will avoid cases similar to what CoinIdiot was doing for several months. (I'm referring to the press board, for others sections, it's another matter.)
Other than the cases above, it's generally people posting news unrelated to Bitcoin per se and when it happens (not often), it's up to us to report. That's what I do and the moderator agrees. Usually, it's a topic about the price, and to me, it belongs to the Speculation section. Or it's news about companies, and it's should be posted in the Service discussion because it's news about a company, not about Bitcoin.
Almost never my report are marked as bad there.
To add to my first post
Having a place to talk about the latest news is great. I know some users may think: "then, people can post them in the general bitcoin discussion". But Jesus Christ! That's what will bring shitposters into the discussions. In the press board, we have "normal" discussions.
It's crazy to have to use the word normal, but in a lot of topic, the discussions are not normal but weird.
It's like if you're with a group of friends IRL at the coffee, and everyone repeats each other but just changes some sentences
mental problem?
