Why people are talking about facebook's ICO? there's no strong proof that they are going to run one.

I'm sure that most of you are waiting for it but I wouldn't buy such thing from facebook if they offer an ICO.

Well, obviously this coin will not work as facebook and facebook itself will not be on blockchain basis from it's release.

There are lots of rumors about Google's or Facebook's coins but there are no assurance of this and we dont even know whats their purpose wold be. They probably and hardly wold try to compete with BTC, for example.

Why a joke?
Mark is not a stupid person and probably understands too that if he does not have time to jump into a crypto currency train, he can very strongly regret. The Facebook is already a ready and successful project, I think if this happens this crypto currency will immediately succeed.

LOL facebook is the blackhole of the internet filled with crap and more crap (once in a while something good happens) but I will not support their BS coin and I doubt many people will lol.

But does anyone have a legit link to this news so we can know if it is actually true?

Decentralization of a Facebook cryptocurrency could mean that the digital advertising duopoly of Facebook and Google would die. Just because it could die doesn’t mean that Facebook has anything to fear. I believe Facebook can structure its cryptocurrency so that the interests of all involved are met and exceeded. This includes the interests of Facebook shareholders, users, employees, and ultimately all of the participants in the Facebook Coin transaction economy.

What the hell can a centralized monopoly which uses its power to supress debate and increase the strength of its own narrative have anything to do with decentralization and empowerement of the individual?

That's certainly simply not true.

With all the fake news happening, this one actually seemed plausible. Especially considering that if Facebook launched its own crypto coin that it would likely gain instant popularity and trust from its existing userbase.
