I think the main reason why people will not trust this is because it will not be open source and the USG will likely try to quietly force them to provide a back door to these chat sessions. The NSA apparently had more or less hacked into FB's data farms to mass collect data (above the programs when the NSA uses "warrants" to get data from FB "voluntarily").

IMO the only real way to chat/message securely is to use PGP and to manually encrypt/decrypt with a program that can do so on every message
