After carefully examining the current legal status of sports betting we have decided not to turn on the betting function of our software. We do not have the legal expertise or funds required to make sure we operate under the regulations set by the many countries where our software is used.

We will stick with the idea of creating the most complete, fast and easy to use calendar for sports; and generate revenue based on in app purchases and advertising. If at some point the USA regularizes and allows sports betting we will reconsider this decision.

In a positive note, We just launched Fanpas for Android on Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fanpas._&hl=en

And been working on a responsive design version for regular browsers.

Additionally we are considering licensing our software

Thank you to everyone that was supportive on the idea of an IPO and that collaborated with us.

We just launched fanpas on the Amazon app marketplace and in the Firefox marketplace. Here are the links:

http://www.amazon.com/Fanpas-Soccer-Football-Leagues-Calendar/dp/B00F2IXX1S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1378869454&sr=8-1&keywords=fanpas

https://marketplace.firefox.com/app/fanpas?src=search

We are now working on our Google Plus and Windows app market versions.  We will  not have an  IOS version as Apple wont let us use BTC's to accept the bets.

The next step will be to add the betting system, we will start with something extremely simple. Just one international tournament, you select a match on the calendar and send the BTC's to the Local, Visitor or Tie address. We will manually pay back to the winning addresses as fast as is humanly possible. We will keep our numbers public.

Before we let people use their mobiles to place the bets, we are creating a new desktop version of the site to accept them. No registration needed.

As for the IPO,  once we start accepting and paying bets, we will update you here. If we do go into an IPO we will use the money to establish a company, get a dedicated office and hire local personal to update the DB, take care of our customers, improve the code, and advertise. I don't have any numbers yet, I want to keep it small and simple.

as long as the company is honest and pays out, it should work.

i say this because sports betting has worse EV than slots. sports betting is like buying a bfl unit right now and hoping to make ROI with it. actually that is way too generous. its is like randomly picking futures and throwing cash at them. and thus, it should be very profitable.

In my experience sport feeds are often incomplete/incorrect and human intervention is inevitable.

This is correct. We been training people, and we find small errors all the time. What we are doing to improve this is to create simple tools and filters that make the lives of people entering data easier. Most probably we will just keep 1 or 2 international tournaments when we start with the bets. That way we can put more energy into making sure the data is correct.

Quote
Though mine was more complicated (more than match/date/result, and more than football).
Mind to share more about your experience?

Quote
You don't need 3 guys in India though. You need one hour per day to fix what the automated stuff did.

We have nothing automatic, all data is gathered and entered manually on our DB via our backend tools. There are a few commercial API's that we could use, but we decided it was better to go this way and gather our own data.

Don't get your panties too twisted guys, surely no one is foolish enough to throw money at this side project. Surely?

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS:
As per my first post, I'm not asking a cent from anyone.  I'm looking for help and advice. A mentor from bitcointalk, and a fellow programmer.

Try this: http://web.archive.org/web/20060201000000*/http://www.futbol.com.ec

We been working on fanpas.com (it was first called futbol.com.ec when it was just a local tournament) for a while, way before Bitcoin reached this level of popularity.

Quote
Anyway, I'd bet all his content is coming from some sort of easy to implement feed.

The content comes from the work on our backend, an our own API.

Quote
If that's the case we're looking at a slapped together idea that would need to go a long way further before claiming any sort of "IPO".

If you know a bit of Javascript and review our code you will appreciate they level of detail we have put into this.

I feel is normal to receive this kind of comments, and most people probably have to tolerate this kind of things. Anyway I'm keeping my hopes up that I will find the people I'm looking for.

We do have a long way ahead before a final product where people can place bets. We should be ready before the World Cup next year, just remember the name. Fanpas.com Smiley

I am trying the site.
First, it's really slow and I don't understand how to bet. It looks like it's just a list of coming matches and you can't do anything.
I don't understand the decision of having a mobile site either, and a ridiculous "PC" version where you have to stare at a fake phone and hand. We have responsive web design now.

This is a problem. More to the point though...

Pff kakobrekla we all know you just want cheap shares.

To the Sun!

I thought it was to the moon? Anyway, the only place this is going is towards Mariana trench. Before or after ipo.

It can go lower, they'll find the drill when they bottom out the trench.

This is headed to the core!

Is a place holder while we create something better and show users how it looks on a mobile phone, our main platform. Smiley

I do appreciate the criticism,  it could help if it was a bit more constructive  Cool

you are so creative and smart. now back to the hobbies.

What? You are a nobody, a noob and an idiot. Do you know which part of the forum you are posting on?
Its Bitcoin Forum > Economy > Marketplace > Securities.

This is no place for my, your or your mothers hobbies, idiot.

Is funny you include your mother in your hobbies. Now, yes I'm a "noob" and this is the first time I will use the Ignore Option! I'm guessing I will not be the only one using it with you. Now have a nice day! and maybe go out to get some air Smiley

Yes talk how funny and fun it is instead of facing real problems. Way to go.

15 years of programming and can't put together a web page? What if some shit goes down, you rely on third party to make it right eh?

Visit fanpas.com on your mobile.

To see what exactly, some lame site someone else built and you host it as hobby.

I been into programing for 15 years now, and while most of the design  work was done by me, I have outsource some programing using Odesk. Now the programmer is a good friend and we work everyday to improve the web app.

so I'm doing this for fun.

So now is time to mix these 2 hobbies. I want to bring BTC bettings to Fanpas. And for this to happen I want to include in our team a programmer with experience in the BTC frameworks and also find a bitcointalk.org senior member to act as a mentor.

Good idea, i'll ipo all my hobbies asap. Let others pay for my jerking off.

draft.

FANPAS.COM
BTC Sports Betting

I been working on fanpas.com for a bit more than 2 years. Is been a side project until today, what  started as a simple idea to create a calendar for local futbol tournaments, so that anyone can check the times and results of the games, turned into a more complete web app. That includes teams, players, stats and a lot more information.

This is a mobile first project, its design was started with mobile phones on mind. Its been optimized to be very fast even under the worst internet connections. Its build on HTML5, and we been testing PhoneGap ports for all the major mobile platforms.

You can access a web version at:

http://www.fanpas.com
it will remain on that site if it detects you are on a mobile phone, if you are into a regular browser it will redirect you to:
http://pc.fanpas.com

Mobile developers will understand that redirects are very expensive time wise, so thats what we redirect people on PC browsers instead of the other way around.

I been into programing for 15 years now, and while most of the design  work was done by me, I have outsource some programing using Odesk. Now the programmer is a good friend and we work everyday to improve the web app.

About crypto currencies I started to follow them mid 2012, but been busy with fanpas, I only got actively started a few months ago. I started mining a bit, and have done very small investments using bitfunder. I already have stable source of income from my own business in the travel industry, so I'm doing this for fun.

So now is time to mix these 2 hobbies. I want to bring BTC bettings to Fanpas. And for this to happen I want to include in our team a programmer with experience in the BTC frameworks and also find a bitcointalk.org senior member to act as a mentor.

Is important to notice that fanpas was created for South America, where spanish is spoken and Futbol is king. It turns out that this development markets go great with BTC. Countries like Argentina, Venezuela and Bolivia are fast adopting crypto currencies.  We also have included many international tournaments like the Champions League, and of course the World Cup. Adding a new tournament takes minutes.

We knew it will be important  to port the web app to other languages. For this we used CodeIgniter, and adding a new language is as easy as setting up a dictionary file. As you can see we have english, spanish, portuguese and bangla translations.  Also we had in mind the possibility to add new sports, and this is part of our design.

We have a beautiful backend, that makes it really easy and simple to add tournaments, dates, games, players, etc.. and keep all our data updated. For this I have hired 3 people in India that work daily on updating our DB.  Some times they lag a bit on entering data and make mistakes, but they are getting better all the time, so it should not be a problem in a few months.

My new objective is to add betting to the web app and do a small IPO. We want to  have betting  ready prior  the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

To find the mentor and programmer. I will offer a part of the company in exchange for their help.  Hopefully within a few months we can have the betting system ready and go public.

Before I posted something about an actual IPO, I wanted to write this info to get some feedback and ideas from possible investors.

Thank you for your time.

Esteban
