I feel very disgusted with that man that would do such thing. I understand if the father had a gambling problem but he could have gone and try to get help.

I’m not completely sure what was his mindset at the time that he needed the money. Maybe he thought that by gambling he was going to be able to double up. But it is still really inhumane to do such thing to an innocent child tell just sell it.

This is already a mental hospital. Maybe he was threatened with murder and he took this step, it's still not clear...

I just read the shocking news now on social media and I'm wondering the extreme that people will go to fund their gambling addiction. According to the news, it said that the Indonesian father confessed to selling his baby with the intention to pay his dept but instead ended up gambling with the money. This shows that gambling addiction is a very serious problem, something that can make somebody to get money by all means to fund their crave for gambling.

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this. If this story is true that means that people advertise child trafficking through Facebook in Indonesia. This should be seriously discouraged.

That's not addiction to me.. he is jus looking for something to cover up his wicked act. Gambling can cause so many things to happen in ones life it can bring joy but most times for some people it's usually pain as they go to any extreme to see that their gambling activities continues. Selling his child to gamble? What was he thinking that he would be able to double the money and pay his debt? I don't know what the world is turning into now as parents just don't know what it means to be given a gift as wonderful as children. If you want to gamble, move your ass and get something to do. Don't sit down there lazy and create some evil taughts that will cause you problems in life.
I do not support the act that he sold his son for money, and I do not also support that facts that he risked what he can not afford to lose at the same time. While I read the OP, I wanted to ask how much the heartless father sold his son for because I didn't bother to check the link. However, instead of the father to sell his son it would have been more better if he borrowed money to gamble or to pay off his dept's (although it's not good but it's better than selling his child). The actual truth of this whole thing is that the father and also kill for money if his present conditions could make him sell his child.
What I understand about this whole thing is that the father sold his child and gambled with the whole money because the money wouldn't be enough to pay off his dept's, so he probably thinks that he might win huge money to pay them all.

It seems like he is a crazy father, very insane, how could he have the heart to sell his child just to satisfy his gambling desires, it really doesn't make sense, and this is what happens if we always expect profits from gambling and want to get rich quickly, so that it damages common sense as a human being.

I can't read the full article but it seems that Age and Zoomic are right and the father didn't sold his baby to fund his gambling addiction, but to pay his debts. Without justifying it at all, I think this was quite common until a few decades ago, when people were starving to death in some places, but yet it is inadmissible, no matter how serious the situation in which one finds oneself. I'd personally prefer to die because of my debts before my children were put at risk.

Unfortunately, that's also a story we've heard about several times: the story about people with a serious addiction problem who is not able to control himself if he sees himself with money in hand. Otherwise, it is incomprehensible that a father can act like this with his own child.
The Topic is misleading. Yes as well I didn't finished the story but the father didn't sell the baby to fund his gambling addiction but was to pay debt and in the process  he used the money to play gamble. It is not only addiction that can lead to that behaviour but greediness because someone that has high demand can do that. The ones he has is not enough so he wants make more money.  And addiction also follow.

Why must a father sell his own kid to pay debt. It is not rational in any way.

I cannot say that I consider this to be a shocking news because I know that people can go the extreme heights when they have addiction problems especially with something like gambling where they consider it as a means to make money and some of people have been put into serious debt while trying to make money from gambling. Is an extreme decision to decide to sell your child just so you can have money to gamble, and such a decision was certainly made from a place of no love and such an individual does not deserve to be a parent or a guardian to a child. Thankfully for the social system it is available to absorb children born to this sort of irresponsible parents.

It is not very difficult for those who are addicted to gambling. Maybe the news revealed that the man sold his 11-month-old baby to pay off his debts.
If investigated well, it may be revealed that she sold her child due to excessive gambling addiction and lack of gambling money. If he had the least sense of responsibility or the least shame as a father, he would never have sold his child and gambled away the money. I would tell everyone that you should never become so addicted to gambling that you sell your house or sell your child to continue gambling. We who are normal people will feel even a little sad that how a father sold his child, who always casts a shadow over the child's head like a banyan tree.

This is very habit to say because gambling has sank into his brain without him knowing what to do satisfy his craving desire for gambling, why didn't him sold their house than having that dark mind to sell his child for gambling. Well, this are the things people should limits on how they gamble especially thinking that they could win lottery through gambling without knowing that is the worse they are doing, and i know that he didn't knows the implication of what he was doing because if the government gets to know about this then it's very bad for him, and the most painful part of is that the mother of the child is not aware of how he sold the child to funds his gambling desire.

This was the extreme gambling addiction reaction by the gambling addicted person. The own son for the money was the ideology of the humanity less person, actually he need to get into the treatment. The money loss in the gambling will give the pain for sure,if you had use the money by the loan. This will create you additional money pressure, but child trafficking for the money for the gambling was the very extreme one.the Indonesia government should get into this problem,So it will create a fear for the people who have try to do this type of things. The baby is just 11months mean, the father should be admitted to the mental hospital to undergo a complete treatment for the recovery of his real mindset.

Op I don't think the Topic tally with the story. From what you said and what is in the article, it is called misappropriation of funds. He didn't sell the kid to play gamble but to pay debt but was diverted to Gambling. Though that is very bad of the father and the people who but the kid. Those who bought the kid are illegal child trafficking persons. If it was orphan baby home, they would have some legal procedures which would have involved the two parents to acknowledge their conscience before the process would have been activated. Before a gambler diverts funds meant for another thing, he has thought that he would win the game and double the capital so he can pay the debt and use the remaining balance to do another. Or if the balance is big enough to settle the kid for him to take back the kid, he would go back to the person and take the kid back again but things turn around.

The man sold his baby to pay his debts and ended up using the money realised from the sales to gamble. I don't know who is more sick between the gambler who sold his child and the buyer who is comfortable buying a child. I know people can go to any length to gamble, but that action taken by that gambler should not be overlooked. That is broad daylight human trafficking just to raise money to gamble. No one is safe around him anymore, if he is given another chance, he would cause more harm. Aside from just gambling, he is notorious and very irresponsible. That man's level of addiction has gotten to the worst stage and it will be best he is is taken to any correctional centre where he will learn a new lifestyle.

I can't read the full article but it seems that Age and Zoomic are right and the father didn't sold his baby to fund his gambling addiction, but to pay his debts. This is just crazy, to me is even beyond gambling addict . Going to such extent , gambling addiction is one of the major thing that literally discouraged folks not to engage in gambling, if this is true the man went to far and even have the guts to advertise his son via socual media , this why keep telling folks to mind the way they approach gambling to avoid any form of addiction.

The common news I mostly hear is people saying their God-given babies for money to feed themselves because of the hardship of the economy they face. That's an understandable fact, even though society is not in full support of it, for one child to be sold. But learning about this, that a family man would sell his baby for gambling is the height of it(unacceptable) because it's only a mentally unstable person who would take such an action, forgetting the consequences of their action, that it can take them to prison.

That being said, nobody would ever hear of this kind of news and feel good about it without thinking that the so-called man who sold his baby for gambling bets should be arrested and put in jail. Let him learn a big lesson that he shouldn't sell his baby just to quench the desire to bet and expect to walk freely after that, like nothing happened.

I just read the shocking news now on social media and I'm wondering the extreme that people will go to fund their gambling addiction.
People like this are the ones that make gambling look like a bad activity to society. Why will anyone even do a crazy thing like this? I don’t just know what some people are thinking. I know addicted gamblers do sell their properties, and they do take loans to gamble, but I don’t know it has gotten to the level of selling their children just because they needed money to gamble. But seriously, maybe the person is mentally unstable. Because I don't think a person in his right senses will do something like this, the person should be taken to a psychiatric hospital because something is wrong.

According to the news, it said that the Indonesian father confessed to selling his baby with the intention to pay his dept but instead ended up gambling with the money. I don’t even care what the person is planning to use the money for, no matter the condition in which you are, why will you even think about selling your child? Seriously, I still believe something is wrong with the man, because someone who’s mentally stable won’t sell his baby to either pay back a loan  or gamble.

Seconded!

No matter how addicted you are but still you would really be still on your right mind on not to do things on which arent you gonna supposed to do. Who the heck will really be that selling out his own child to feed up his addiction? Pretty common that people will really be that selling out their house, car, properties or even taking up some bank loan or into other people just to feed up their addiction on which this is something very common but on the moment that you've done something shit like this then you are really that considered to be out of your mind on this aspect. There's no one on their right mind will really be doing such stuff but well
it did really shows up that there's something who can definitely do this on which it is really just that too shameful for a certain dad or father to came up with this kind of decision.

Just like the rest been saying that no one on their right minds on selling out their child for them to satisfy their gambling addiction but it did really comes into that severe point that they do really able to
consider out on doing such action on which it is really just that too shameful for that person on doing such thing. This mand should be put up in prison.

It should be shocking because it's not a normal thing to sell your own child whether to pay your debt or to gamble with the money, however, I have seen so many such stories that it doesn't shock me anymore when I see or read something like this. Some time back, a grandfather kidnapped his granddaughter only to demand money as ransom from his son so that he could use that money for gambling. Another story said that a person left his infant alone at home to go and gamble at the nearest gambling shop. The world is crazy these days.

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this. If this story is true that means that people advertise child trafficking through Facebook in Indonesia. This should be seriously discouraged.

This is nothing, you can't imagine what sort of things happen on these platforms. They don't filter or monitor everything, if their algorithms catch something, it gets removed, but if someone finds a way to bypass that, he can go ahead and post anything without facing any consequences for it.

The gambling addiction of the person is already at an serious stage so he cannot thinking well because as long as he can satisfied his hobbies to gambling then he will do anything for that and people can see it based on the story on the article that i can't magined the father only sold his child to 15 million IDR or approximately $1000 which this is not worth considering he is child's biological father but indeed this is included human trafficking and i am sure he would be in jail for long time and i think this is only example the negative effect from gambling addiction so those who already to became an addiction had a problem with their mentally and affects to his mindset but luckily the child mother realize this situation and she reported the matter to the authorities so the baby was safe now

This is a serious case of extremely addictions to gambling and at that same time the case of taking gambling too far by relying so much on the instinct that you will always prioritize money over other things and taking gambling as the means to get rich quick, I think bought the buyer of the baby and the father that make that attempt should be arrested and jail for child trafficking and other human right crimes.

This is certainly insane, I believe this is the highest stage of addiction anyone can get most especially when it concerns gambling. The love of a father or should I say parents to their child is incomparable and for a father to sell his child just to fund his addiction, it shows that his addiction level is at its peak. Arresting him and the person involved in buying the baby is the right call, they should be punished for child trafficking, I wonder the action of the child when he grows up to find out what the father did while he was really helpless and need his love and protection the most.

What the heck did I just read? This is read messed up and same goes for the man, he’s really fucked up in the head.

I have read different stories like how a man used all his life savings to gamble, how a man used his wife money, or how someone sold his properties to gamble but never have I come across any that says something about a father selling his child off so that he can get money to fund his gambling account - I believe they should do some mental check on the man because it’s obvious that he’s not thinking correctly.

I haven’t gone through the entire article and after reading it I’ll make sure to share to other gambling group that I’m part of because this is not something I can just read and keep to myself, the whole thing is just so bizarre.
Even myself cant really be able to believe that a father or a man will really be going into this far extent to feed up his addiction on which selling out this baby for this matter? This man had some problems into his brain or mind on which severe addiction could really be able to mess up someones brain and decision making. It is really just that hard to believe that he do came up with that idea because just like been said that usually people do really sell out their possessions on the time or moment that they are addicted but not on this one on which we are really talking our own child or baby on which there's no money that could be able to equal with our loved ones. It is really just that too cruel for such decisions that had been made because of this one.

An example of the negative impact of gambling addiction that always encourages an addict to do many things to continue gambling.
But from the news I heard, the case actually started from economic difficulties that forced a father to sell his child. And in my opinion, a father who sold his child did not seem to be an old gambler but a new gambler who had a mindset of doubling money from gambling.
So in this case, it is not yet fully clear whether the father was addicted to gambling or was just venting his depression from the difficulty of meeting economic needs and had the thought of doubling money from gambling.

Such a horrible story that is beyond gambling addiction, who would even thought of doing such a thing especially to your baby. There's something wrong mentally to that person, firstly, he kidnap is own son as the mother is unaware of what's happening and sold him of through social media platform. There's too much wrong with that article and that father and the person who bought should be punished for the crimes they've done.

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this.
Surely facebook is not aware since this illegal. Probably this idiot guy use different keyword to bypass Facebook security for illegal sell.
Sadly, facebook isn't really that strict with their posting security especially if the posts does not hit certain keywords or if the post isn't posted as a listing for sale.

Most people would do anything to keep funding their gambling addiction, it's quite sad that a father would do that to his own child just to satisfy his gambling addiction, gambling has indeed caused more harm than good and it's now a global catastrophe because it's constantly making a lot of people do irrational things. This shouldn't be legal , he should be arrested for this act there's absolutely no difference between this and trafficking, there are on the same scale. This is what gambling addiction can do so make sure you don't get influenced by the toxicity of it.

That’s ridiculous and really sad. I can’t believe that any doting Father would do something like that. Addiction is tough and comes in many forms but the bond between parent and child should override any urge to gamble.

I hope the kid is OK now, they deserve better parents than somebody like the Father. He is a really pathetic excuse for a man.

This is just wrong on so many levels and just goes to show that certain people will be so
affected by addiction they would do literally anything.

Obviously to I would say all of us of these points
Its wrong to sell another human being let alone your own child
Its wrong criminal to buy another human

Just goes to show how addicted the guy was but to be honest I am not surprised at all
as to the depths a human can reach even when an addiction has to be fed.

That is really a very bad behavior done by a father, I understand that the impact of gambling addiction can indeed make someone do anything but I don't think it's up to someone who is desperate to sell their own flesh and blood, and I think it's clear that it seems like the person is already in a really chronic cycle of addiction so that he is able to reach such a crazy decision by selling his child without his wife's knowledge.

In the end, of course, this is a tragic incident that we can use as a valuable lesson about why we really have to avoid gambling addiction in various ways, because this incident is an example that when someone is addicted to gambling, their common sense will disappear.

So if you are a fairly active gambler, from now on reduce your involvement in gambling, limit your time and money and learn to be a responsible gambler by realizing and emphasizing that losing is a part or a natural thing that happens in the game.

I just read the shocking news now on social media and I'm wondering the extreme that people will go to fund their gambling addiction. This is the height of it. I know gambling addiction makes people do some crazy things to satisfy their urge, but this is the worst case I've seen concerning gambling addiction. I believe his chronicity is beyound the ordinary. This is madness of gambling addiction. I don't see what will make someone to sell his child to settle his dept and still use the fund to gamble. Well it's not a new thing I guess people use their children for money ritual. so selling a child is even the least of it, but it is not encouraging.

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this. If this story is true that means that people advertise child trafficking through Facebook in Indonesia. This should be seriously discouraged.
I don't think people advertise Child trafficking on Facebook in Indonesia. maybe people thought it was a joke or prank when he first posted it on Facebook until it becomes a reality. Because this days people practice a reckless attitude called "prank" on social media and when the case becomes reality people can't spot the difference between prank and reality anymore. Sometimes it is good when people see something going wrong it should be cautioned immediately so that if the person is even nursing the idea it will die in them.

I'm sure it could happen not only because of gambling addiction. The mentality of such a father must be sick. Gambling addiction that ends up selling assets until they run out or even committing crimes is still understandable. But selling their own child, the parent must be sick if. Or another possibility, the father may be part of a human trafficking syndicate.

A baby who has not yet sinned, why should he be sacrificed for a crazy gambler?

That is insane story where father willing to sell his own baby for his debt but that father ended up gambling. I guess many things happens like that in social media but if there is no report from other people related to that news, Facebook will not do anything. It needs a serious attention from Facebook and the government who read that news and investigate and find the father. It is wrong doing that because of debt or for gambling.

Oh poor baby that belongs to an addicted father. Is this what addiction can do to someone to the point of selling out his own child to satisfy his addiction. Addiction is a big problem and that is the consequences of gambling for profit without a second thought of thinking if it is possible or not.

I am speechless and don't know what to say on this topic. However, this should a a good reason why people gambling for profit should take of that mentality from their head so that they don't end up in addiction and do all sort of unimaginable things. It seems addiction can make one lose his mind and senses too.

There is a crime attached to this, and the father will eventually go to prison if proven guilty, You really can do anything if your mind is preoccupied with gambling; it will cloud your decision, I pity the father; he should go to rehabilitation before serving his sentence if found guilty, this usually happen in third world country where poverty is rampant and people will do anything just to survive.

Gambling addiction is a very serious addiction. Gambling addiction can cause people to do any despicable thing even in a moment. Here is the man who sold his own 11 month old son to gamble and took the money to gamble, the father has no right to be a father. Such gambling addicts should be punished to the fullest extent of the law to see that unique people can be reformed. Moreover, every sector in Indonesia should be aware, especially when that person posted on Facebook, there must be known people who saw it, who did not say anything, those people should be governed by the law. Such gambling should be banned by the government where innocent children are not safe.

The city's top cop as said in the article knew children re being sold in facebook with prices ranging from 10-15M in local currency.  But they are probably not monitoring it every now and then even when its a common thing. Its more surprising to know buying and selling children is common. After investigation those buyers were also arrested which the authorities suspected them to be part of a larger human trafficking network.

That's what gambling addiction can do. Selling their flash and blood seem to be just nothing to the addict as long as he can gamble. The mother should get rid of this man, he brings nothing to the family anymore.
More and more children are being sold in Indonesia and it's not something just started but has been prevailing for a very long time now. Eight people have been reported to be arrested so far. The painful part is that parents were being arrested for selling their kids. Some people act as agents/scouts. While others make pre-orders online and these kinds of content have been going through Facebook without any security measures taking place.

Gambling addiction, Money addiction, sex addiction, and drug addiction can push someone to do such evil. Addiction in general is very dangerous and its hard to quit addiction.

Sad to see this news... Where a father has the heart to sell his own child. How barbaric.

I read the news a few days ago where the results of trading this child were spent in 1 week, he said he sold his child on the pretext of economic difficulties and his wife did not know because she was busy working.

From the police press conference said - This perpetrator bought 2 mobile phones and the rest was for gambling.

All perpetrators have been responded to... The one who bought and sold his own father...

This is how if gambling has no sense of responsibility, they will do anything to fulfill their gambling desires.

Another inhuman behavior by a chain and addicted gambler. Sometimes i wonder where some people have kept their conscience, selling a baby just because of gambling is a very extreme and mean thing to do.

The story also said that the man advertised the sale of his child on Facebook and I'm wondering if Facebook is aware this. If this story is true that means that people advertise child trafficking through Facebook in Indonesia. This should be seriously discouraged.

My question is didn't his friends or people who are aware of this on facebook report him to the police immediately and they charge him for child selling? this is to show that people are just so careless now. Hardly you will see people that are ready to seek justice for others again as most people are more interested in whatever that concerns them alone, too bad.

Gambling addiction as a result of irresponsible gambling has caused many people to do things that they are not proud of. Things that in many years to come will hunt them and they may not be able to forgive themselves leading to depression and suicidal tendencies. This is a call for more safe spaces for gambling addicts to be supported and not shamed. We need more Civil societies and NGOs whose targrt population will include these people. They need all the help they can get. Which may include but not limited giving them small grants to pay of their gambling debts based on some stringent conditions, providing psychological support, as well as some skill so that they can be employed.

I saw this news on Facebook today, I was surprised to see this being discussed on the forum too, when I saw it I felt sad, being a father is a tough task and a great responsibility and reading this is bizarre and too scary, this person needs serious treatment, I can imagine the situation of his wife, imagine the pain...

And it's not about gambling addictions, human beings are capable of doing anything in desperate situations, it's up to each one of us to control our mind, to filter before making serious decisions.

I wonder what's the worst here, that he sold his kid online, that he did so for just under $1000, that he has used that money for online gambling, or that there are people out there who would buy kids online and obviously not for taking care of them but god knows what!
And how did that ad even manage to stay online on Facebook and who is going to answer an ad on Facebook about selling a kid, this would look even to the average criminal like a honeypot operation!

But as shocking as this might be, googling a bit it's not something new nor a unique case, like this Chinese couple that sold unwanted kid after kid to pay for their gambling:

I read this news yesterday, it really is an extremely bizarre situation, selling his own son to gamble does not show that he is just an addict, but rather a person with serious mental problems, because apparently he has no feelings for his own son. The problem here is more of a mental health problem, this father is completely out of touch with the reality of the real world.
It may not be related to mental problem. It can be gambling addiction which is what it is. He wants to pay a dept. That means he borrowed money from somewhere before and he wants ti pay the money back and decided to sell his child. I guess he borrowed the money to gamble and he lost the money thinking he can maybe double it or triple it while gambling. He sold his child and still feel like gambling and also lost the money on gambling and he has not pay his dept. He is not worthy of the child. If the person that bought the child is rich and able to take care of the child, it is better the child remain with the person. All that matters is the child safety.

Surely facebook is not aware since this illegal. Probably this idiot guy use different keyword to bypass Facebook security for illegal sell.
It is quite unsettling if there is a community for something like this on an open social network like Facebook, for keywords to work, there needs to be a group of people that understand them and are willing to buy another person. I will expect such a trade to happen on the secret, dark web.

This person most probably has other addictions fueling their debt and lifestyle and should have a mental disorder which causes them to lack inhibition.

I need to get the app to read the full news, can anyone confirm that the child has been safely recovered?

This is one example of what someone who is addicted to gambling can do, he is out of his mind and cannot think what is right; all he can think of is where to get money to sustain his addiction, Here in our country, this crime is human trafficking and the one who committed this has criminal liability.
Even the takers or the buyers have criminal liability. This is strongly discouraged by our government, which is why they changed it from civil to criminal offense, I have heard a lot of this in our news channel, but people are doing this out of poverty, but selling your child to sustain your gambling addiction is abominable, he will regret this later when his child has grown up.

There has been a post I read sometimes back on same similar case of which the parent sold their child to sponsor their betting habit.
This ain't any different and am sure that it might just be highly exaggerated because Facebook won't allow such to trend on their page without deleting it as they do to others who post child trafficking and child sex videos.

Am sure that the father in this story is also very conversant with the slot machine and from my research and findings, alot machine games are very much addictive than other gambling games.
This is just another case of the irresponsible side of parenting that adults go through and it shows that having a wife or having kids ain't a guarantee for a parent or both parents being responsible.

Gambling addiction is a terrible disease. Actions we won't take on normal day gambling addiction can make a gambler take such actions. There is no solid reason to justify his actions. A man like that should be sentenced to prison. Indirectly it is human trafficking and child abuse not minding if it is his child or not. He should be set as an example to others.

On the other hand, these social media should take full responsibility for identifying illegal activities on their platforms. They should prevent any harmful content from being shared. They can invest in AI or other technologies to assist in moderating and detecting any illegal content immediately it is shared on their platform.
