Another -1 for PNY, their GPU's and RAM are garbage IMO -- they have always under performed or had issues from anyone I've known personally that has purchased one.

There was a time where they were decent but that was many, many years ago.

If you have the ability to return that PNY GPU, I suggest you get out now...

No return policy on newegg, but the particular GPU has good reviews so I can probably pass it off fairly well. I am unsure if I can call newegg and negotiate some kind of return on the card but when they do sell open box products the price is low so I don't think they would give me a good deal

when it's summer again I best hope that LBC remains fairly profitable because that is the only coin where you can fully underclock the memory

I'm under the impression they are not for overclockers and are geared towards people who just want an out of the box functional card.

Does anybody have experience with differences between other brands besides PNY, like ASUS vs. Gigabyte vs. MSI or others when it comes to mining and power draw?

FWIW...

If you ask me, the PNY brand has always been sub par...

I've always had issues with their products, weather it's build quality or whatever else.  I don't buy em.  Keep it in mind.

I picked up the PNY XLR8 GTX 1070, factory overclocked at the top tier and triple fans, one of the cheapest deals and a lifetime warranty

I am finding this to give me very weird results for mining and overclocking compared to the EVGA

for starters. With the EVGA I can have the power target on 50 and mine ETH at full hash rates. With this PNY I need to be at 64% power target to stabilize at 30 MH/s. MSI AfterBurner does not report the mV and it reads the power usage at 80% even though it is at 64 cap. GPU-z reads an appropriate power draw

Where the NiceHash EQM miner does not exceed 85% power utilization on the EVGA, this PNY will go all the way to 112% in both MSI AfterBurner and GPU-z while pushing 100mhz less than the EVGA does even though they are both on nearly identical OC settings. This 85% power cap for the EVGA seems to be the norm for GTX 1070 users of all different card types

Most people get high Sol/s with EWBF miner because it is able to hit higher power targets but since EQM actually caps this card, I get a higher Sol/s with NiceHash EQM instead here


My driver is fully updated. I am not sure what else I can do.

So I dont have 1070, I have 5 1060s 3gb.  4 of them are Asus and 1 is pny.  I will say I see a huge difference between the Asus and pny.   For example I can crank up the Asus to +167 core and +577 on memory but the pny I can only get +120 core and +450 memory just to get it stable, it will never reach the 295 sol/s I get out of the Asus cards, I see about 245.  Honestly my opinion is that it is just the difference in manufacturer.
