I would like to give a shoutout to the user error for the Fedora bitcoin-qt clien repository he is maintaining.

http://linux.ringingliberty.com/bitcoin/

Many moons ago I packaged software for the Fedora project, back when it was called Fedora Extras.
I have been packaging software in the RPM format both professionally and as a hobby since 2000.

The only software I ever install on Fedora / CentOS systems that does not come via yum is flash, oracle java, and the fluendo codecs.

Flash - I don't trust Adobe.
Oracle Java - Oracle doesn't provide a yum repository and their .rpm file is shit anyway, tar.gz is better way.
Fluendo - I wish they offered a yum repository but since their plugins are not free, that's hard.

So when it came time for me to explore bitcoin-qt, I looked at the source and build instructions and knew that I did not want the static pre-compiled version, I was going to have to build it myself but unfortunately it did not take advantage of the GNU autoconf facilities that make using the %configure macro nice.

That's when I found error's packaging. He did things the way I would have wanted to do it myself, including making a separate compat openssl library to avoid replacing vendor packaging.

I've been using his packaging for almost a month now and it is very solid. The few small transactions I have made the software worked well. The only flaws I have found are common to running QT applications in a Gnome3 environment, so those are not packaging errors.

As soon as I have my CampBX account squared away and buy some coins, I'll be donating.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know, if Fedora is your Linux distro of choice - at least as far as I'm concerned, his repository packages the software both properly and securely, install with confidence.

Thank you error
