There is no way to stop people from posting what they want. But there is a way to win 3rd party observers like myself by not acting like a child and saying "he acted irrationally,  so I can too!".  You obviously have lost the confidence/trust from the original poster, but you have 1000's of others reading your comments (or more)... and IMO, it seems like a good chunk of them do care how you carry yourself on forums and how you treat customers, even irrational ones.

+1

Seconded.  Imagine if Jamie Dimon acted like that..shareholders would've dumped him in an instant.  Maybe BFL should hire a PR rep...or twelve.

holy hell..  Jamie 'That's Why I am Richer than You' Dimon??  really?  The guy that acted like he had no knowledge how outta control his London Whale bets were?  The same guy who spawned Blythe the Derivatives Witch Masters who chomps down the silver paper market daily?

The guy is sociopath and that is WHY the shareholders love him on wallstreet..  if you are talking businesses on main street then you would be correct

That node has looked like that for as long as I can remember (basically since that particular map was first created).
It's because it isn't a single person/pool, it is the "other" category that centers itself on the country.  I read the whole thread and nobody seemed to pick up on this.  Basically, if the software that generates that graph can't locate the true position it lumps it all into a bar on the center of the country.  It is always the largest bar.

Good to know. I never did take that graphic as anything other than a conspiracy theory (read: No way BFL would be able to create a blip that large).

Have never really paid attention to the map before, so the historical context is appreciated.

Oh, yes, of course.  The title "Feel like defending BFL now?" is certainly courteous and rational.  Silly me.

Oh wait... not it was rhetoric of an idiot wanting to trumpet some imagined transgression by BFL and shouting it as loudly as he knew how and making it as dramatic as possible.

Let me fix your reality filter by showing you how to post a courteous thread with the same information, so you know where you went wrong in trying to show me where I went wrong:

Title: Any idea why there's a huge spike in Kansas City for bitcoin mining?
Content: Hey, does anyone know why there's a huge spike in the middle of Kansas where BFL is located for bitcoin mining?

That's how you do rational, courteous threads.  You do not write "Feel like defending BFL now?" as the title and just post pictures as the content, like you are some retarded super sleuth who's uncovered a nefarious plot to overthrow the government that only exists in their mind.  That just makes you an idiot and an asshole, which is why he got the response he got.

Anyone who does business with BFL is a moron.  They have yet to ship anything substantial, and this Josh guy is a rager and a PR nightmare.  Amy's Bakery anyone?

BFL is a liability.  Anyone who throws money at them deserves to lose it. People who want to be involved in bitcoin should be looking for lows in bitcoin price and just buy and hold bitcoins rather than investing in a product that may or may not arrive, from a company with a less than stellar reputation.  If you want ASICs, look at having one of the DIY guys build you something when the Avalon chips get in, or buy the ASICMiner gear.  There is no reason to be held hostage by BFL anymore, people.

BFL has expertly managed to create and maintain a system where many involved are near perfectly balanced on the precipice that separates fear and greed. Many of their investors express dissatisfaction with the many deceptions BFL has presented, but then go on to say that they'll not cancel for fear of "missing out". The order queue system is brilliant for locking people into a bad situation. The lost bets gave people confidence that BFL would hit their specs this time, though that didn't happen either.

When things seem to be moving against BFL for too long they raise prices and investors see that as value being added to their already placed orders. When the delays seem to be unbearable BFL ships a few half baked Jr. mining devices to devs, press, apologists/shills, and a few early investors, but we've been told many times that when shipping begins they can quickly ramp up to 300 - 400 units per day...didn't happen. The whole thing seems to be carefully cultivated to keep the screws turned tightly on investors.

I kind of feel like a dick for giving them any of my money... Embarrassed If only I had found that thread outing the CEO as a known and convicted scammer I wouldn't have.

I'm actually in the process of creating a new mining news site to compact this kind of information into something easy to see, a larger version of my Crypto Mining Vendor database in the Speculation area. With so many "BFL scam" threads it is difficult to pile through them all...

Unfortunately this problem is all over the place. Not a single other one aside Avalon or AsicMiner have delivered squat, and mostly either lie or are non-existent but are more than happy to take your money. Something must be done. The desire for ASIC has blinded so many to these frauds.

Ah you shouldn't....

But I applaud you for coming to your senses.  It seems that most people I talk to either say "oh, it was only XXX dollars, I can afford to lose that if BFL doesn't deliver" - which, BTW, are very irrational thoughts.  a dollar is a dollar is a dollar.   earned, inherited, or easy come.  treat them all like you worked your ass off for them and you'll never be taken advantage of.

It's pretty clear that BFL has been cavalier with their "investor" funds, and have mismanaged this product to the Nth degree.  I refunded in February when they failed to meet their deadlines.  I hoped they would eventually make it right for those who were still in the game.  But it's freaking the end of May..  and things are moving pretty fast on the block chain.  They had claims of delivering by Christmas time last year!!!!!!  4.8 Ghash for a Jalepeno was like 7 times the amount of power I had at the time to mine.... now 4.8ghashs (or whatever it was) would produce a hell of a lot more BTC back then than it will today.

I wonder what the tipping point is for a mass refund request from the folks on here who are keeping this project funded.  Josh has proven to be incredibly unprofessional and justifies his unprofessional behavior with "well, you started it..."  -  Imagine that you went to a restaurant, and they made you wait 3 days for the meal you ordered.. its not a perfect analogy.  And the entire restaurant is getting irate... then the owner comes out insulting restaurant patrons with terms like "cock waffle" - I'm baffled that more people aren't opting out of this investment....

I'll get off my soap box now...

However,  Josh, you're still a dick.

Like you were courteous and rational when you scammed people with your mail scam? Offense intended, you're a known scammer forgive our community if our trust is testy.
And your orders being late only exacerbates the situation. Before someone goes on about how everyone deserves a second chance yadayada. I don't believe that shit. I believe everyone gets a chance to prove themselves; to prove they've changed, and frankly you're an asshole and I don't trust you. You're out for greed and gain, and you don't give a fuck about what your miners are really doing to Bitcoin.
Bitcoin the currency that erodes the power away from the corporate paradigm and gives it back to the free-market. But no, you've fucked it. So forgive us if we don't want to bend over and grab our ankles for scumbags.

Yes, he has said that he doesn't want the bad customers (the ones who complain).  He only wants the good ones that are willing to wait a year silently.  If anymore of you have anything bad to say about BFL, why not give him his wish and get a refund while you still can?  It's obvious they will not ship before the difficulty jumps due to Avalon and ASICMiner.  So what are you waiting for?  All Sally wants is what he has coming to him.

You know, I posted in your own forums a request to make a statement about the many, many accusations against BFL. The petitions, the fact your CEO is a convicted mail fraudster, the general community consensus that BFL either has no idea what they are doing or simply doesn't care.

You still have not.

Instead you call your customers idiots and worse because they dare to question the mountain of evidence supporting these claims. This thread may have jumped the gun a little (however it is a bit suspect), but are the others just as meritless? I don't think so. It's bad enough now there are people here trying to get your companies ads erased from this site.

Your customers no longer trust you or BFL

You are such an astounding and graceful businessman you have your own "fan" page, did you know that?

Does that bother you at all? Care to speak on this rationally or continue being unprofessional and hostile?

I don't think you have the balls to answer for this. Feel free to prove me and the community wrong.

I'll be requesting a refund, I will not support this charade. As a businessman myself I find every aspect of this appalling and unacceptable.

I wasn't trying to show you that his post ended up rational and wasn't attempting to shout "BFL is screwing you!!"
It wasn't overly dramatic (not as bad as I have seen)... but it did have a purpose. And if the chart were read correctly, and it was a severe spike in hash rate from your particular facility... then, in hindsight, this topic would seem tame. But it obviously was misread.

His first post was him mistakenly reading a chart and attempting to notify other users of something he thought he had found about a company that a large number of people do not trust right now (and possibly he doesn't trust either, which is why he jumped the gun on judging). An appropriate response from someone who works at such a high position with BFL should have been:

"There is a bitcoin pool located in Kansas City, near our headquarters. This chart also depicts node count, not hash rate. BFL does not conduct any public mining with any of its pre-ordered miners. This has always been the case, and remains so. Please correct your original post. Thank you."

I will re-quote you, so you understand where you went wrong here... at least, in my opinion.

I admit I miss-read the graph and overreacted.  Apologies all around.

I'm newish to the community and didn't know this had already been discussed.

However,  Josh, you're still a dick.

Ah, but I'm only a dick to people who are dicks first, that's the key point you seem to be missing.  If you weren't a cock waffle to start with, you wouldn't get a dick response.

It's what most people like you don't seem to understand.  If you approach people with respect and courtesy, you get the same in return.  If you approach people with vitriol and raving irrationality, you are likely to get a less than favorable response.  You wonder why I treat you like poorly, yet your first post is accusatory and irrational.  Imagine that.

Wow.... Just wow. This is how you conduct your business? Very professional. Boy, am I glad I didn't fall for your scam.
You would fit right in at Amy's Bakery Company, might apply there after your next visit to jail.

4. There is no roll over hash values on the quills.
5. Josh would waste his time replying.

Runs fine on safari for me, using latest version... after enabling the developer menu and using it to enable webgl.

Definitely could offer more detail, and a better zoom functionality to get city-based results (assuming based on IP address of the node)

That fancy world map is just a graph of the 1149 nodes that the blockchain.info client is connected to, and then it charts the number of incoming transactions that get relayed by that node first. It's not a map of hashrate or even blocks found, it's a map of the largest bitcoind nodes that they happen to be monitoring.

This came up months ago, and it was proven to be nothing but the fact that EMC is physically located right in that same area. Herpy-durp!

The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.

Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding. David Dunning and Justin Kruger of Cornell University conclude, "the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others".

Dunning and Kruger proposed that, for a given skill, incompetent people will:

    tend to overestimate their own level of skill;
    fail to recognize genuine skill in others;
    fail to recognize the extremity of their inadequacy;
recognize and acknowledge their own previous lack of skill, if they are exposed to training for that skill.

I'm sorry, but the coincidence is just too great to ignore.  Of all the 30,000+ cities in the United States, the largest concentration of U.S. hashing is situated in your backyard and yet we are to believe that you aren't involved?  Really?

You didn't even bother to deny it, you simply jumped straight to the personal attack.  This is a well known tactic used by companies all over the world to discourage dissent in online forums.  You sir do, it well.

It simply isn't possible for Josh to spout off like this and keep his job if he didn't have the consent of his boss(es).  Why would the company support this flagrant behavior if not to discourage dissent whilst continuing to ram the proverbial hashing rod deep within our collective rectum?

Holy crap, the amount of fail in this post is borderline epic.

Why would I try to convince anyone that I'm not involved with that node? (It's actually a set of nodes)  Are you serious?

Did you miss the earlier posts where people pointed out the map from blockchain is of bitcoind nodes, not hash rate? If you click "most stable", you'll see the Kansas City one and the one in Europe are the two most stable in the world that blockchain knows of. So of course they have a large number of connections and relayed nodes...

Having a hard time determining how those spikes correlate to hashing power.  Now, mind you, I'll be one of the first in line to say something underhanded is going on with BFL (and also one of the first to eat my words should they start sending UPS tracking numbers by the 1000s anytime soon).  But, it looks like those are simply showing connected nodes and "uptime".

http://whois.arin.net/rest/net/NET-68-115-80-0-1/pft

If you look at the list and not the pretty picture (it is cool!), you'll see a node on Charter that has more uptime than all the others.

Going through the blockchain blocks list, it looks like the pools are still getting all the blocks.  Now, BFL is probably on those pools with YOUR machines, but I'm not sure that would be represented by a chart like this.  After all, mining on a pool, is like using a proxy.  You don't see who's hashing inside the pool necessarily.  Correct me if I'm wrong here...
