This is a welcome development if they can only do what they have stated in that publication. This shouldn't be an opportunity to suffer the masses again and start threatening them with timeline elapsing to get the card. They should do it in a way that will be convinent for everyone to enroll on it. But if they can put all these features in that card, why can't they also add the option for us to use it and cast our vote during election at the comfort of our home or a place of our choice. This our country Sha, let's keep hoping for a better Nigeria someday.
Yes oo na so dem dey do for this country, dem go just come with sudden timeline and hope and expect everyone to actually meet up with that without them really exercising on the fact say Nigeria we plenty well well and anything that needs to be done on this country needs patience and perseverance.

If the government has failed in making the process of obtaining the National Identity card easy, how are they going to manage the distribution of this new general multipurpose card (GMPC)?

NIMC has stated it clearly in their circular how the collection process will be when they finalize the decision and begin processing the new card. The screenshot posted by Op is incomplete circular.

This is part of the circular where the board says banks and partner bodies in collaboration with the NIMC will take part in distribution process. But from my understanding, the issuance of new card will be based on request and not compulsory on anyone unless you request for it. I believe the process will not be frustrating as it used to be in the past. However, my concern is whether it will be permanent or renewable after some years.

Before I start, I should correct you first. Please next time you won post any pictures. "Abeg" try post the ones wey dey bright so that people go fit view and read the contents wey dey inside am. Now we no fit read the contents wey dey the picture because e no clear, even if say you use medicated glasses read am you no go see am well as e dey very blur.

What type of device are you using? The image is very readable from my end here without using even glass thou I zoom it a little bit. If you are interested to read the full text on the image, visit NIMC Twitter handle

Of course, you will have to link the new card with your various accounts to activate it. Doing that is not supposed to be stressful since banks are involved, they can easily set it up for you.

This nah improvement as e be say we go fit use the card for places wey network no dey stable and e no go get issues, and for say e get biometric function again wey make am dey more secured pass the normal ATM card.
But I hope say this government no go use that one take stress us say make we link this one and that one. Because I believe say as long as person get BVN, em NIN already dey linked inside, no be when time go reach now then go say make you link this make you link that.

To de very honest eh, nothing this leaders wan bring out when go move me again. So of all the economic crisis we're facing as a nation coupled with with increasing cases of insecurity and high rate of joblessness among youth, the only thing they think is the problem of Nigerians is an identity card that serves the same purpose as our ATM card? Who told them we're complaining about our ATM cards? No be person when get work and money for bank go de think about this kind thing?

I see this as a total misplaced priority that's just about mismanagement of the countries Treasury and nothing else. If you search to know how much it will take to make this improvement, it will make more sense to you why somany persons have lost hope in this country. Our educational system is dying by the day and youth development is paid little or no attention to and one will hope that policies that's going to address such issues would necessarily be at the centre of the government plan but you can't see anything like that. Everyone want to look and steal from the country . The previous identity card hasn't even circulated to majority of Nigerians and you think this one will make any difference?

A lot of people were joyous when the news about the new proposed card was released. I no understand why people dey happy about something like this especially when we know say our government dey fail when it comes to doing something like this at scale. I never collect my permanent National ID after completing the requirements anc registration since 2016. Imo, FG is focusing on all the wrong things. Nigeria is going economic meltdown but FG wan launch new card? By all means, make them bring am on.

It's not new to me. From the the time I knew about this national identity card I was aware that it functions like our A.T.M card because someone showed me his own though it was out dated. But my questions remains. For someone running multiple accounts with different banks, how can he or she select the bank he wants to be debited? since multiple accounts are running on a single card.
I haven't seen any Nigerian national identity card that had a payment functionality before now and I doubt anything like that has been made before. What we have is temporary and permanent identity card and both of them don't have any smart point and they are definitely not linked to the banks so I doubt any of them can be used for making any transaction.

Regarding how they can link all the banks one uses to the multipurpose identity card, the BVN solves it all as it can easily be used to link all your banks togather and once its connected to your nin, that's going to be so easy to use itfor such purpose. You know how easy it was for all the service providers to use a single code for making recharge subscription or data subscription and that's going to be what will happene if this plan finally works out as planned.

No doubt ,am not longer surprise in anything FG can bring to book ,let them still bring more strategies they will use to extored on us ,what happened to the formal NIN that almost all Nigerians did, that one is not longer good , Nigeria has end already all this things happening is as a result of British colonisation,we are now in bondage and the international communities are not even doing anything about it
Because they are benefiting from the so called Nigeria, but they are their laughing while their country is flourishing they eat what they want as a result of them extorting from this useless country called Nigeria, they are just controlling tinebu in that seat ,I don't think if all the things he bringing is not his ideas ,what did he know ,is his subudinate that are doing this I think ,your government who sleep on seat anytime, when making speech he forget to put the rightful words in other ,let them do what their mined tell me

Let see if those who has before will still do again.

I think this should be so easy. We have our BVN and this is what we should have linked with all the banks we used. With this it will be easy for the card to display all banks account connected to this card. So we are just to select the bank we wish to use at that moment. And just remember that most things is easy with this present technology.

I was given the temporary card in 2014, I went back for the permanent card in 2020 when I did not receive call from them since many years. All they could say is that I should come back, that only people that collected the temporary card in 2013 are the ones that are available at the time. I have no option than to go to cyber cafe to print it myself to plastic. A country that is giving its citizens the temporary card and not the permanent and yet citizens waiting for them without calling the citizens to come for their permanent card.
It is easier as a prominent citizen to obtain the permanent copy of the National Identity card, than a regular citizen. As a regular citizen what you will be able to get easily is just the NIN number which you will be able to use for bank verification and other things.

If the government has failed in making the process of obtaining the National Identity card easy, how are they going to manage the distribution of this new general multipurpose card (GMPC)?

5. Contain biometric authentication i.e fingerprint.
This can pose a serious security risk.

This NIN card is just a way to generate income for the office because we will be charged a fee to get the cards, and likely occasional fee for what they may call maintenance fee.

As part of the effort to improving on the structure of the national identity card that's already in place, the federal government has launched an innovative identity card with payment functionality . The general multipurpose card (GMPC) is to be issued to Nigerians and legal residence of Nigeria as thier default national identity card.
Key features of the card includes;
1. The card can be used as debit or prepaid card by linking it to your bank.
2. The card shall enable holders to have access to government intervention fund.
3. It will contain machine readable zone for e passport information
4. Contain your national identity number
5. Contain biometric authentication i.e fingerprint.
6. Offline capabilities that allows transaction in areas with no internet access

What's your take on this planned improvement on the Nigeria national identity card? Should we be expecting a possible difficulty in getting this new identity card like what happened when the previous identity card was made compulsory?

It is a nice initiative and am sure that with time we may soon stop using personal bank cards if this works fine as intended, but don't the government think we as the citizens are already tired of all the cards they make us queue up for long hours to get?
Why don't they just design one from the details of the NIMC and BVN and send to the location where everyone did their registration in the first place and that's where they can go pick up theirs?

We aren't looking for payment capacity,.what we need is more and better employment and cheaper available food,
an atmosphere that's peaceful and productive enough to encourage other talents and ambitions.

OP if what you've listed are the true functions of the card, then that's a good one. Citizens needs to have a unique number that can have multiple functions just like the western world.  The only problem I have here is the ability to access government intervention funds by the ordinary citizens who don't have connections, we've heard multiple times about government releasing funds for the indigent in the society and the most vulnerable, yet those funds just disappear into the tin air without the actual people getting them.  In adopting some of these advanced technological methods in a bid to build a societal structure, we still need to purge ourselves of political interest and greed that runs the system, else the main purpose of some of these innovations will be defeated.

It is a good plan if our government can make it standard like other countries that has been into such system some years now and, the system is working for them without any challenges in their bank account and they are free to use their NIN card to buy goods and services without any challenge.

If the government can make the NIN card a standard card that will not make scammers to have access to people money in the bank, I guess it will be a welcome development to Nigeria and people will be free from network problem in the country in the area of transaction

It's obvious that all these are forms of security terms in the social and financial institutions but it's quite unfortunate that they'd all end up being formalities or would only be effective only when the government wants to have the vulnerables on tracks because that's only where the rule of laws in our society is exercised.
I'd say it'll really be a welcomed development of implemented and properly to function adequately with the reasons of why it's implemented for such chains. Else I'd say it's a waste of resources as their usual being of inventing and dumping.

My take on this issues is what's the essence of putting a lot of funds into unnecessary things when we have a lot of problems choking the country. If you get to know the exact amount that was stipulated to the accomplishment of this NIN task, you will begin to wonder if this federal government are being operated by human beings or animals. No wonder Anikulakpo Fala called them animals in human form, (zombies) who take actions where unnecessary.

We have inflation tackle it's citizens where measures of inflation reduction is needed they are trying to fix NIN, those times when they wanted very one to link their numbers with NIN what happened to this innovations to take place then?. This country is beginning to head towards the walls that it's citizen will begin to take suicide actions.

But anyways if this new NIN project will bring any further development in the country then it's a good one but if not then the people who proposed the action need to visit psychiatric hospitals.
