The banking profession has changed in recent years, they no longer work as before. The only time they spend really on looking at the accounts is just to clear and approve cheques or people who are on negative accounts, the rest of the time they take care of credits, investments and so on.
In addition, it is much automated; it is the algorithms that flag people, not the bankers themselves.

After all, it depends on your relationship with your bank but you can very well inform your banker that a larger amount than usual will arrive and they are happy that you notify them, the next time they will not ask any more questions.

This for the transfers that worth between $3,000 $4,000 but above $5,000 in EU you have a good chance to be flagged

If you're receiving transactions from or to a German bank account, be aware of the AWV Meldepflicht:
http://www.zahlungsverkehrsfragen.de/auslandszahlung/awv-meldepflicht

TLDR; Any in- or outgoing bank transaction larger than EUR 12,500,- "crossing" German borders needs to be reported in advance to your bank and local authorities.

Your bank may or may not be alerted by smaller transactions as well though, I think LeGaulois is right that even international transactions as little as EUR 5,000,- can already cause suspicion. In that case it will mostly depend on your relationship with your bank though.

What do you mean by additional documents or proofs btw? In general your bank should already have your ID and address... or are you referring to things like documenting the source of income?

In Europe, above 5000€ in transactions monthly can be enough to look suspicious. But it also depends on how you use it regularly. I wouldn't make a single transaction only to receive a big amount, especially since it isn't a local bank. I would rather search to know what are the banking reg in Germany to get a more accurate overview.

How is fidor treating big EUR wires from exchanges? Do they tend to ask for any additional documents or proofs?
