Yes, I understand this was discussed but maybe if we create more requests and solutions for the spam problem, we will be in theymos' attention more often and he will realize we do need something to change.

Since we're on this topic, have any of you guys here seen any propositions posted here in Meta been put into practice? Are we wasting our time here?

I have posted here before with some suggestions on improving the usability of this forum but nothing came out of it:

Perhaps because of:

....you might not be aware that everything you wrote has been discussed ad nauseam?  To a person like myself who lurks in Meta more so than other sections, there's nothing new here.  That's not to say you're wrong, because you're not--the shitposting problem is out of control, but there's not much more the average user here can do.  Real change has to come from Theymos, and I think he's probably waiting to see how the merit system works as a solution/remedy for it.  I think people are just tired of the same ideas being batted around, and in the meantime nothing changes.

People have given up. Such topics are opened in this board every week or so.Result? It gets buried again without any reasonable solutions.
 
There is no specific solution which will satisfy all the use cases. Merits to a certain extent helps ranking accounts but the merit bubble has already burst. All your suggestions revolve around signature campaigns which is not the only source of spam on the forum.

Check also your post. You have already spammed your previous 8 post less that 5 mins each. I think you have known on why theymos makes the forum free


You can also add the definition of spam with the time of posting.

This is a good idea vlad230. I am also reporting spammers or shit post to the moderators. I just started it last week ago and now I already reported 34 posts with 61% accuracy. Let's help the forum clean from spam posts.


Mostly spammers are Jr. Members that only replies a one line post which is not even a good idea or just repeating the same thing on the topic.Having a campaign is not important when it comes to spamming.  We are not here not just only to earn but to learn too. If you don't have a campaign why don't try to make a useful and constructive post because you have enough time to make it what I mean is make a good post not only if you have a free time but make good post anytime. Be a good example user of the forum.

This is where the merit system comes into play. They can gain activity but it will be useless for them to rank-up.

With this possible solution I'm proposing we could fight the shit posters that have ranked up in the past disregarding the rank they currently have.

I do report users whenever I see shitposts and spams or anything unrelated or out of the thread topic. Yet I hope I wasn't alone. Salute to moderators who works hard to see each and every posts done by any users in their child boards.

And, as I see, reporting any little inaccurate shit posts and spammers alone doesn't change a single thing.


how about those who doesn't have any campaigns yet do posts just to gain activities?

Hmm... I was expecting more interest on this topic. Seems like I'm the only one bothered by spam or want to find solutions for it.

Could it be that the spammers are still generating traffic though and that means more advertising $$ for this forum? 

I know there were multiple threads on this spam issue but no solutions were implemented to stop the root cause, just the effect.

First off, those aren't normal. Isn't it a bit common sense? This isn't some classroom -- "if you have questions, ask" type of forum, the majority would appreciate if you'd research on those basic questions and formulate another question based on what you've researched.

What do yoy mean "unaware they can do that"? Let's not tolerate laziness, you're using the internet as you use bitcointalk, and you've probably searched for it to be here. Might as well use it again to ask those questions. Google has almost everything, use it wisely.

Although it's true that campaign managers can easily spot these users and can add these abusive members on those list and be tagged, these abusers would just create another account that would still spam and so on.

Then do it, and check if these shitposters and spammers would be lessen.

This has already been discussed hundreds of times. Once again is not going to make things better. Why open another topic instead of putting it in an already existing one. Monitoring the users in charge to run a campaign would mean checking their work and therefore checking the quality of the posts. In other words, it will be like doing their job

I'll start this off by saying that I normally post in the altcoin & bitcoin sections of this forum.

As you probably know, a lot of these boards are infested with spammers that post one line replies in mega threads just to make their post count and be paid for their signature.
This has to stop because it is killing the forum by making quality posts very hard to find.

Of course there are a lot of newbies who start threads with trivial questions like: "Will x coin moon?", "Time to buy?", "Time to sell" etc. but they are just new here and it's natural for them to have questions. Some may even find it hard to search for answers at first or are unaware they can do that.

Maybe a solution to all of this would be to better regulate the signature campaigns and more precisely, their managers. I know some of you managers would be offended but don't be, this is for the greater good of the forum.

I think a lot of the managers out there are not aware that there are lists with people that are banned from signature campaigns:

• My list of users banned from signature campaigns + Submit your own spammers
• My Sig Spammers list and banned from Campaigns list
• A list of spamming multi-accounts. Ban?
• etc

Also, since campaign managers review the posts made by their employees, they are the best people who can spot spammers and add them to the list.

I am so tired of the spam that I would be willing to create a repository of all of these lists to be able to stop the spam but this needs to be enforced on the campaign managers side first.

For example let's say a campaign manager hires a user who is on one of these lists, maybe some DT members would be willing to tag these managers and also put them on a list where other campaign managers have broken the rules, have not paid people, have hired spammers etc. These lists would be reviewed periodically and bans could also be enforced.

We can even define what it means to be a spammer, to me it's:

• making 1 line generic posts
• replying with the same thing not bringing something new to the thread
• posting in useless, trivial mega-threads after page 5

Please keep an open mind and I would like to see constructive posts on this matter.
