Exactly. The problem isn't with the incentives and balance between seeders and leechers, it's a pricing problem between content creators and consumers. Maybe there's room for a crypto Spotify or a crypto Netflix combined with crypto publishing, if the content creators dare venture that way.

This seems something like the Datum network.

If Upfiring advertises a bit more tan Datum then i think theny have a fair chance of getting a good amount of market capitilaziton and interest in their project and multiply investor funds many times from the ICO.

It will depend a lot on how well they handle the ICO, though.

Filesharing is always going to tread legal complications, especially now that every country is closing down on IP rights, while torrent sites are also facing more and more difficulty. Advertising and marketing is a double edge sword for them too, you bring attention to your project and risk getting in legal trouble. It starts with the ICO,  like you said. If they manage expectations from there, it will bode well for the future of the project. If not... you get angry investors and they rip it up from within.

I think I loved this one more than Sia. But we should ask the question "are they going to keep their contact with huge businesses?" It is more important than ideals now in cryptocurrencies.

This is definitely better than Sia. Sia is shit imo, it's just not practical if you've ever tried to use it.

My god..... Sia is shit??? They are way ahead at least 2 years!

Lmao.. "File-Sharing ICO" That's it? Sia has huge updates next month, one of them is regarding File-Sharing. Nothing big here.

All hype, All marketing, Just a piece of paper.. No product.

Invest wisely

That wasn't a problem for Filecoin though. How many millions did they raise? So from that point of view I can understand why anyone would launch a file sharing ICO.

Please give me some feedback. I'm starting on steemit.

That article is really solid. And yes CarlosCorreia I agree myfranco they could run into legal issues, but uTorrent/bitTorrent seems to be doing fine and its essentially the same thing minus the blockchain/coin aspect.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm trying to put Upfiring out there because I think the concept is genious.

Upfiring - Incentivized and decentralized file-sharing
https://www.upfiring.com

Looks like they're going to offer tokens to people who seed files on their platform, kind of like uTorrent but you get crypto rewards.

Definitely looks very interesting. Seen it talked about favorably on reddit as well. Would you invest?

I came across this ICO and was really interested, if done properly it could be hugely successful, the only real issue I have with it is the fact that for 90% of files that are commonly downloaded via utorrent there are plenty of seeds, so for the most part this service isn't really an improvement. Though I guess all seeders could move and then leachers would be forced to pay via tokens.

The project looks interesting. Still, I cannot decide do I want to invest or not because all those file sharing services are under big pressure and claims from movie and sound labels.

Didn't know about this ICO!! Thanks a lot, it looks very interesting!

There is also an official ANN thread at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/annufrico-upfiring-incentivized-p2p-file-sharing-2223828

The reason P2P file sharing projects are failing is not the tech but the business side of it. Content owners have no lack of bandwidth or storage space, therefore there's no need for them to be interested in P2P unless it lowers their costs substantially while at the same time providing them with the same level of control.

But it seems Upfiring isn't about renting storage space, it's about getting paid in crypto for seeding and file-sharing?

You don't see a problem with that? When someone above you just said "cracking down on P2P sharing"? What do you think people are going to share, Linux ISOs?

Hopefully, if this is done well, it would be a huge one for the project. The idea is great, not like it is new as we already have some projects already but not really doing quite much about it. If this can work, then there is a possibility of seeing much more light at the end and it is really not a bad idea to invest in.

I remember the days when copy-right issue killed the file hosting industry. I pray that not to happen into blockchain based era too.

Agreed. It's crazy that with all the blockchain projects out there, nobody's tackled P2P file-sharing successfully yet. Huge potential for this project if they can do it successfully.

With all the cracking down on p2p sharing, I also share your surprise that all the past projects trying to solve it have not been successful. But this clearly goes to show that a LOT of projects on crypto and ICOs have wonderful ideas but do not have the devs with correct knowledge to pull it off. People think all they need to do is make a smart contract token and the work is done. But there are truly so few actual blockchain devs who know what they are doing.

I see no bounty for forum participants.
very sorry. some large ICOs may already have their own community so they do not need advertising to expose their products. if any, i will be first.  Grin

I too would like to see a bounty for this project.

Definitely looks interesting.  Does anyone know how much has been raised to date?  Etherscan never gives me a total value for some reason.

I am also wondering this. The ICO just started, but it seems like there's been 60k worth of ETH contributions to the contract so far on Etherscan. They also take other cryptos though so this is likely not the total amount. Still, it's not an absurdly huge amount which is good for investors.

Can't be 60k the hardcap is 40k.  It's strange they don't have a meter to show how much has been raised.  I guess I'll wait for it on etherdelta then.

Agree, the tech is trivial compared to the elephant in the courtroom: licensing fees and rights management.

SIA and STORJ your biggest competitors . Their biggest advantage is in Poloniex . I like your site very much .

For Sia and Storj you will be needing hardisk space to mine the coin

Sparks pays you by seeding your files to them.
