Portnoy, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my many questions; so many people wouldn't bother. I'm at work now, but will try to follow your directions tomorrow. Thanks again.

how do I unzip it?

You may already have a program for unzipping zip files on your system.

Right click on the zip file and choose an option that says something like: "Extract files..." or "Extract here"

If that doesn't work download a program like winrar ( do a search on google ).
There are many such extraction programs one can download for free.
I use a version of winrar that I have had for many years. I don't know what the best program is these days.

On this page:
https://github.com/cantonbecker/bitcoinpaperwallet

Look in the bottom right for the 'Download ZIP' link.
Click that to download bitcoinpaperwallet-master.zip.

Unzip that and everything should be in the correct place.
Disconnect from the internet and doubleclick on generate-wallet.html to open it in your browser.

Another stupid question! Does it matter which of the 2 links above I use?

No, one is general. The other is to the html itself. But you will want to download the images as well. Put them is a folder under where you have the html file.

The easiest thing to do is go to https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/
disconnect from the internet and then push the "Generate Keys & Print Paper Wallets" link, and then just follow the directions.
It all runs from javascript in your browser just like the version you can download.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think bitcoinpaperwallet is as good as bitaddress?

Why trust this site?

This generator is based on BitAddress.org, the most well established and trustworthy open-source engine for generating addresses using your own browser's JavaScript engine. No crypto-code is run on this web server, and no addresses are transmitted over the Internet. If you don't trust this service (or pseudorandom number generators in general) you can roll dice, shuffle cards, or supply your own "vanity keys". For added security, you can download this wallet generator from GitHub and run it offline...

Find more information at that site.

I have saved the bitaddress webpage numerous times. However, when I go to my downloads & click on the downloaded bitaddress file, it won't work from there, it still tries to go online & obviously can't. As I want to transfer the file to a tablet which has never been internet connected via a USB flash drive, I need it to work from the downloaded file. What am I doing wrong?

Just wondering if the problem is that when I right click to save the bitaddress.org page, I am only offered the possibility of saving it as bitaddress.org, not as bitaddress.org.htm. I have added the htm on myself each time, but does that work? Also tried adding HTML.
