is that for real? interesting... will have to see about the data rate and if it's sufficient
Yes it is.

Can you give a summary of how it transmits and functions example the User Interaction side
Transmit happens with the national tv broadcast signal.

Receival through any digital tv device such as USB stick or custom electronics

Use case is a shopkeeper desiring to accept Bitcoins or FIMK on the counter. The technology enables us to implement a small portable device with lcd display that can be used to check arrival of payment in the blockchain. As simple as using the cash register. No software required. No connections. Instant arrival as soon as the payment hits the blockchain (through smartphone or SMS payment for instance).

We have not yet mentioned the uses in third world countries that lack mobile network infrastructure and devices. They can still prepay in crypto and fetch goods for instance with the merchant being able to check payment status from his device.

FIMKrypto is just another altcoin that will perish given some time
I must disagree with that, taken that by "some time" you mean less than 3-5 years. The proof is in the pudding.

But you have to consider that such a broadcast is likely being controlled by a single entity. So you can only rely on the data if the broadcasting party is trustworthy.

Usually the broadcasters are large national operators. Whether you'll trust them with you blockchain is a practical choice you'll have to make Smiley

FIMKrypto is just another altcoin that will perish given some time. On the other hand, broadcasting transaction data via digital tv is interesting in terms of accessibility to the network.

But you have to consider that such a broadcast is likely being controlled by a single entity. So you can only rely on the data if the broadcasting party is trustworthy.

Can you explain a little more about the project?
What information do you need please?

There's a lot of technical stuff at http://kryptoradio.koodilehto.fi/

Fascinating I'll have to give it a read (edit read it)

Edit In:
So over the air Bitcoins in the air, literally speaking. Got it but a thorough explanation would still be handy.

Finland launches bitcoins-by-air pilot project

Finnish quasi-national cryptocurrency FIMKrypto has struck a partnership deal with Koodilehto, a Finnish software company, in order to launch world’s first development project that aims to broadcast cryptocurrency transactions through national TV broadcast network in real time.

The technology, coined Kryptoradio, enables merchants and consumers to receive real time P2P network transaction data with any standard Digital TV device and custom software without the requirement of Internet or mobile network connection.

The broadcast transaction data consists of Bitcoin and FIMKrypto transactions, which are encoded and forwarded to the network of Digita, the Finnish national terrestrial TV operator. The broadcast covers 95% of the Finnish territory of approx. 5 million people. The technology, once completed, will be portable to other countries worldwide.

The pilot broadcast project starting from September 1 lasts two months, after which commercial production phase is planned to begin later this year.

FIMKrypto (FIMK) is a cryptocurrency launched in early July by non-profit association Krypto FIN ry. Prior to FIMK’s launch the association received 533 Bitcoins (approx. 250 000 EUR) in donations from domestic and international donators. The association coordinates the FIMKrypto project and organizes a national basic income plan paid in the cryptocurrency.
