I am not 100% sure if Smithsonian would take it, that may be a historical thing but getting something accepted there doesn't seem like an easy thing to do, probably would be accepted by many smaller ones though. However, I would say that selling it and donating the money to a charity would be a lot better.

You know how much it should worth and wouldn't sell it for a cheap amount, if you give it directly to a charity then they will most surely sell it for cheaper than what it should be, even with an auction. So sell it, get a good amount of money for it, and then use that money to help someone, must be some crypto charities out there somewhere, give it to them.

Quite a bit of history I wasn't aware of actually, feels weird to have known or even met a figure mentioned there. But maybe it really is just a small world after all.

If it's your coin, you do what you want with it. I'm still wondering how to let most of the world enjoy exhibits too -- I'm more well-travelled and more opportunitied (I know it's not a word) than most and still haven't been able to see Smithsonian (likely will never).

I also never really got this fascination with sending BTC to space. It's out of reach for me and most people, so how do we relate? I sort of get the true why (marketing), but why hasn't anyone sent anything down to the Mariana Trench (random other thing out of reach)? Or tried to teleport it? As you can see, I could come up with a thousand different "near-impossible" things to do with a representation of Bitcoin without actually really using it Wink

If I get a SpaceX friend and ask him to shoot a pink ribbon with a blue spot to the moon, will it really help increase awareness of breast cancer in men? Or will it just make my pink ribbon with blue spot stockholders richer? (Maybe I'm asking seriously).

I don't consider it is a great initiative. Personally, it is a sort of marketing for benefit of xxx and engaging entities (if there are).

The physical coin is only a collector's item, so there should be no doubt about someone sending Bitcoin into space, which of course makes no sense. Therefore, I don't see much sense in all this, although after all that coin will perhaps be an interesting exhibition specimen considering that it was in space and returned to earth.

I'd like to see a set up of a mini mining farm in Space and if it happens, it won't be an iconic event. It proves that Bitcoin is really universal. When you can have the Internet connection, Bitcoin protocol, software, mining equipment, you can connect to Bitcoin network, other nodes and mine Bitcoin as well as confirm Bitcoin transactions.

It's not exactly what you imagine, but it's a start Wink

SpaceChain said the test advances its dreams of building a decentralized blockchain infrastructure in space. SpaceChain, the U.K. crypto firm with extraterrestrial aspirations, secured a bitcoin transfer with its multi-signature transaction hardware orbiting Earth every 90 minutes.

This was a special case because I have a friend that is a senior executive at SpaceX. They are doing this for select employees and he offered up his spot to me for free Smiley

This is only the second time that they are doing this.
That's great help by your friend like giving up his spot for you that also for free but my concern is are they given chance to carry these physical items only or they are taking them in person to the international space station? Like there must be fixed number of employees selected for this process to have a wonderful experience of it but it's good that you have send bitcoin to space to collect some funds by auctioning it and donate the money.

This is awesome and the plans and ideas are wonderful.  It's also great you are seeking community feedback.  One other thing, it is mentioned this is a Silver Cas; are you sure this isn't a Brass Cas?

Sorry yes its a brass coin!

"First Bitcoin in Space"

We will receive a certificate from SpaceX stating that this has been into space and back. We are most likely going to NFT it.

When will it happen on the Moon?

When it happens, it means Bitcoin already globally accepted and is legal tender on Earth. Because those areas in space still belong to government controls.

Might be worth posting this in the collectibles section of the forum

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0

This will surely be a highly sought- after collectible  Smiley

I love the idea of putting this in a museum and hopefully they’ll be a Bitcoin  museum for all these physical items soon.
Anyway good luck and Bon voyage  Smiley
Yes posting in collectibles section would be a great idea and there are many who will be willing to have it and increase the show of their collections with space bitcoin only one of it's kind and presenting it in a museum is also good like there was thread about this physical items museum

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/thoughts-about-starting-a-physical-bitcoin-museum-at-the-next-btc-convention-5396227

So who knows we see these collectibles soon there and people from different parts come to have a glance.

Taking it from place to place would probably get a wider reach specially since we don't know how often the chosen museum/gallery would put it up on display. The hard part is you'd likely have to dedicate a good amount of your time and effort for this.

I wonder, is there a public auction or something for something like that where you can "buy" a seat on the space shuttle to send an object up, or is it just a special case? How much did that "seat" cost?

Wow! So this is actually the coin that went to the moon? This coin's value must have already surpassed all of its Bitcoin content, premium, physical value, collector's value, etc. added together. Its value should be very high now. A rich collector might be willing to buy it with its price multiplied several folds.

But with its historical value, I agree with you that this coin should be displayed somewhere public where everyone has the opportunity to have a look. The Smithsonian Institute must be a good place for it, but how I wish it could also be brought into exhibits all over the world so that other curious supporters will also have the opportunity to see it.

No this is not the one that will go on the Moon. This one is simply going into space and back Smiley

Have seen something like this the first time like sending physical Bitcoins which are more of collectibles items to the space and bringing them back.On the top of it you are planning to sell it as NFT then surely you would set a auction for it with a base price. But how much weight it has because i think they charge accordingly or I am wrong?

I wonder, is there a public auction or something for something like that where you can "buy" a seat on the space shuttle to send an object up, or is it just a special case? How much did that "seat" cost?
SpaceX has human missions also under which they carry you to international space station and you need to book with them and think they also have the option of cargo so might be possible he has gon this way :

https://www.spacex.com/human-spaceflight/iss/index.html

But he needs to clarify the situation exactly how was this possible.

want to use it as a case to promote Bitcoin.
Not sure when it's the return date, but IMO your description perfectly suits one of "Bitcoin Magazine's upcoming conferences"... It'll get maximum exposure in an event that's meant to promote Bitcoin and it's just around the corner [October of this year].

wow, impressive. Does the physical coin have gold coating? Will you sell the real coin with the spacex certificate?

Well, it's a Casacius coin Smiley how it's packaged is exactly in the photo. It will be vacuum sealed.

And the coin will come with the SpaceX certificate. We do not plan on selling it, want to use it as a case to promote Bitcoin.

Afterall, this coin has the chance to blow up (hopefully it doesn't!)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Richard and I am founder of 4K.com (We turning physical items - collectibles - into NFTs/tokens)

I am here to ask the community and get feedback on what to do with this Casacius Coin when it comes back to Earth?

I have the opportunity to send a personal item on top of a Falcon9 rocket into Space and have it retrieved. So I thought it would be awesome to launch a Physical Bitcoin up there!

"First Bitcoin in Space"

We will receive a certificate from SpaceX stating that this has been into space and back. We are most likely going to NFT it.

My current idea is to donate it (along with NFT) to a museum like the Smithsonian Institute. Is there somewhere else where it could be better displayed for people to visit/view?
