It is sad that such cruel people even exist.

However, pigeons have been used throughout history to deliver messages, and they can be used to deliver anything not too heavy, and they're not dependent on electricity.

Like two paper USB chips, one on each leg. For the first time in history, a bird can deliver a video.

Great, now the only thing needed is a pigeon enthusiast to make the first pigeon powered delivery of bitcoins come true. It would actually make history, as it's never done to the best of my knowledge.

Yea, imagine that. You'd get a Wiki page or have PETA hunt you down for animal cruelty.

Pigeon enthusiasts have comps all the time. Animal cruelty ? Are you insane ?

I believe he is: http://animalconnectionac.wordpress.com/2011/09/15/pennsylvania%E2%80%99s-pigeon-shoot-problem/

Quote
Another common misconception about pigeon shoots is that they are necessary for keeping the population in check, but overhunting is one main cause of the extinction of one breed of bird: the passenger pigeon. These birds used to be so plentiful that they were known for darkening the sky, but so many got killed for meat and sport that they eventually became ex tinct. In present-day pigeon shoots, the birds are not even being killed for meat but get thrown on huge piles that are left to rot. The birds come from a breeder who captures them and raises them in his backyard until the gun club needs them. Instead of controlling the population, he is breeding them to be killed.

I've provided a utility that can do just that!  And BIP 38 to provide the ability to password-protect paper wallets and private keys

What's the ROI on a rifle?
To be profitable you need one of BFL's new ASIC shotguns.

The private key 6PRNhgv87awVfi2FRMyVEZniSPfqWjmvLHtH2LArmEPb9BN5KoDvaEA36s

belongs to Bitcoin address 13QMHowtDvGkD7Rwp9jTCw511vRXb9KjrZ

but needs a password to decrypt the real private key.

The password in this case is "pigeon express".

Utility available at https://casascius.com/btcaddress-alpha.zip (Windows, source included, also available on GitHub)

The message (private key) could be encrypted while in transit, so even killing the messenger would not yield any profit, thus hunting pigeons for bitcoins would be futile.
Ah, that's a good idea. It would also keep you from loosing some coins that go unclaimed. I assumed you were thinking of a paper wallet or something.

I'll give you a +1 for the randomness lol  Cheesy

Thanks, I'd gone a little more high level than this though:

On 28 April 2001, IPoAC was actually implemented by the Bergen Linux user group.[4] They sent nine packets over a distance of approximately five kilometers (three miles), each carried by an individual pigeon and containing one ping (ICMP Echo Request), and received four responses.

This could be a great publicity stunt, if anyone has pigeons as a hobby, what about delivering bitcoins with a pigeon ?

I see several ways this could be done, how would you suggest it be done, and would this be a news event or a good publicity stunt? What about combining it with the halving celebration ?
