I cut and pasted my "receiving address" from my electrum wallet onto the Coinmama site and then confirmed that address before completing the transaction. I saved the request in my wallet and have waited about 30 minutes. My wallet balance is still showing zero and the saved request is still showing pending. The order on my Coinmama account is showing completed.

It can take up to (and technically over) 2 hours for even a high priority transaction to get confirmed.

What I usually do to check the address copied is right is to check the first and last three or four letters and also check a letter somewhere in the middle. (use the first three letters after the 1/3 in any address.

No. Most wallets show the transactions either with 1 confirmation or as soon as it is received (as unconfirmed).
Note that a wallet often is a piece of software which lets you manage your private keys (desktop-/mobile-/hardware- wallet), not an exchange account or any other 3rd party service.
Because only such services do 'credit' the amount of btc's after X confirmation.

Additionally mentioned he is using electrum to receive the coins. Electrum shows transaction as soon as it receives the information (0 confirmation).

Any updates on your current situation hollipharm? Have you received the Bitcoin you have purchased? Maybe you are just overthinking as it is your first time buying BTC and you can always double check and confirm when a payment is incoming in the blockchain website what you just have to do is to put the wallet address you use here, https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/COPYandPASTEyourAddressHere. In here you will see your latest transaction and how many confirmations it have, also most wallets needs about 4-6 confirmations before it reflects in your wallet account.
