Hello Elwar! Glad to see you're up and about again, and drone delivery! I saw some pretty nifty videos recently (pizza, and contactless mobile pay). Wish we could do something like that in some parts of my hometown and home capital where congestion is a nightmare. I think if we took delivery off the roads, we'd see a lot cleaner stuff.

Actually we are working closely with drone companies for drone delivery. As well as drone pick up of garbage and other waste.

Congratulations, this is an amazing development, and we expect more progress in accepting digital currencies and dealing with them on a large scale.

Well, our friend is working on this project so until we get our boat he is our main source of transport.
We had a kayak for emergencies but I lost it in a storm. Sort of my fault, but didn't want to risk getting in the big waves to save it.

We have Internet. A cell tower can reach us and we have a repeater to reach back to it. Phone Internet is around 10-20Mbps.

Man, I would panic like crazy, if I had to rely on someone else to transport me back and forth from my home to the shore. What happens in an emergency situation or if you quickly need something from the shop.

What kind of internet connectivity are you getting there or do you want to be "away" from the internet too?

I watched a documentary on deep sea drilling and the construction of massive oil drilling platforms and they also had the problem with buoyancy, but they constructed ballast chambers that can be filled with sand or water, depending on the amount of buoyancy that you need. So in rough sea conditions, they fill it more to reduce the buoyancy.

I would think there is a 95% probability you will be attacked at some point. Its not like you can keep your location a secret. In your other thread you said you have guns with plans for bigger guns on the way, but being psychologically prepared to have to kill people is another thing! Takes some giant balls, that's for sure. Kudos.

Hey all, sorry for posting and disappearing. I've been so busy since getting the seastead up that I hardly have any time to get on bitcointalk anymore.

Been answering many queries from a lot of different sources (Facebook, seasteadtalk.org, ocean.builders, etc.) as well as preparing the next 20 seasteads.

It has been myself and my gf Nadia living on the seastead for the past month though we are currently taking a break in Phuket to buy a boat and have the bottom painted. Life on the seastead is great and always full of adventure. If you've ever lived on a boat you may know how things go. The prototype we are on was at about the 90% completion stage so that last 10% is me working on things. The water maker was a challenge since they are meant to be gravity fed which tends to mean they are usually installed under water. But ours is about 2 meters above the water. Buying a pump and then finding out you have the wrong sized hose and such minor problems turn into a longer process when the store is a boat ride back into town. Without our own boat we have to rely on my friend to come out periodically.

We did experience some big winds one night up to 25 knots which rocked the platform a bit. Our engineer noted that the seastead is not "rigid" enough. Meaning that a small movement on the bottom turns into big movement at the top. We are in the process of adding some steel frames where before we had steel cables (which can give a small amount of flexibility). Last time we were working on that our welder lost his mask to the ocean and we didn't have a spare. With our own boat we can make more regular trips but relying on our friend makes things take a bit longer.

But it is, afterall, just a prototype which has taught us quite a bit. Our production version will be quite amazing while still keeping the costs low. It will be twice as deep, have rounded walls for the wind factor, smaller area at the water line for the waves and the spar underwater will have rooms (with windows if you want).

There is a lot of interest, a lot of people want time shares so we're working to accommodate that option. We are setting up a seasteading adventure to show people the seastead while teaching them the ropes of being a seasteader (literally...ropes).

As for the title of this thread...it's a bit on the joking side since there are only 2 of us living there so accepting bitcoin for anything is a bit unnecessary since we're not selling anything. But we'll accept them if you want to give it to us 

But the company selling seasteads, Ocean Builders, will be accepting bitcoins for orders. We are a bunch of early adopters that are finally able to afford building some pretty cool stuff. We fully support Bitcoin. We hope to begin producing the next set of seasteads in the next few months (at least get the ball running as far as giving contractors the green light to start setting up their production). Next week we get the final cost estimate from our last contractor then we set up our company and start taking deposits (20% down).

Another thing is mooring your fleet of boats to the house. You will need boats to be able to go to shore and back and I'd imagine these have to be secured for the night or they will become the first target for thieves. I've read a story once of people who took their yacht to a nice island for holidays and one night they woke up to the sounds of some natives trying to steal their lifeboat.

The whole thing reminds me of the platform colony of Sealand, who is actually ripe to have its own cryptocurrency (why not), as it already serves as an off-shore data processing center. I think if someone was to have their own such residence in international waters, only bad things could happen. Its truly like a wild west-type of environment. But you know, all the more power to them.

I would assume there would have to some sort of self sufficiency with
electricity, fresh water and some form of food growing?

Security would be a thing to consider and what would the rights be about
sinking aa pirate boat?

Most lines of wire were connected down under the sea with some tube and it is not necessary to put a floating node or some post to connect to the internet. The only problem there is the tidal wave that could interrupt the connection of the internet, but i guess it's not really a big deal since they were just outside of their city that is still visible to other people.

I think it is not yet finished constructing the way i see it was just a start of the process they will eventually expand with some land to stand.

Wow, it's nice that such an innovative and intriguing project makes a point by accepting bitcoin. Sea covers most the the Earth. Learning how to live there might be an essential part of solving issues in the future. After all, it's probably easier than colonising other planets and yet also helpful. International waters really make sense in this case, because it should not be something that belongs to one country. Bitcoin is a natural and symbolic choice of the currency, as it's also non-governmental, global and innovative. Just like seasteading!

There's nothing stopping you adding your own air link when you get yours up and running.

This is one of the very first of its type. It's not going to have every convenience imaginable. I presume it was put together and occupied by some hardy souls.

When do we get to see the interior?

I myself am only really interested in living under the water rather than on top. That's a little more demanding.

When the SHTF then you will want to be in one of those things, unless the event is a tidal wave. No internet though unless there is a floating air balloon or space node that you can connect to. Won't be able to use bitcoin, except off-chain payments when possible

This thing looks like a floating bunker. During World War II there were similar floating anti air platforms with guns on them and there were also floating radio masts and other contraptions. Any pictures from the inside? Does this thing vibrate much at high winds? I'd expect it to work like a drum at least as long as it's empty.

Presumably you have a PO Box or a pick up point in the nearest town/city. You get a speedboat into town, pick it all up & take it home.

This is a weird but cool idea... I just wonder what happens during storms and such... And they're more or less a "sitting target" for piracy. Wonder what they do for protection. Or as somebody previously mentioned, they could be quickly run over by a commercial vessel on accident. In any case, probably the first time a company has accepted both bitcoin and the thai baht for payment.

Wow, these people are very brave pioneers indeed, because I do not know if I would be able to sleep like a baby, not knowing if a boat may come crashing into my "house" in the middle of the night. How do they make themselves visible at night or when there are foggy conditions?  

Tsunami's should not be a big concern, because this is in much deeper water, but I will still have some concerns when there are stormy conditions.

Accepting bitcoin payments for a seasted is a weird idea.This technology is still very expensive and I wonder what kind of person would want to spend most of his bitcoins for such thing.Seasteds have great potential,but there's room for improvement.

I wonder how's the experience of living 'alone' on the sea. Do they also have internet access there?
At first, I thought the people who live in seasted use Bitcoin, but it seems the company itself is the one who accepts bitcoin for selling this seasted.


Will maintenance becomes difficult if they use solar panels? I always thought solar panel is cool.

There have been created many projects that utilise wave energy and transform it into electricity - it is possible that something similar has been applied here - in addition we have solar panels - I hope that they did not use an oil generator there ;-)

however, they finished on solar panels - what a pity ...

Whats the costs of living here and the price of weekly utilities? I'm guessing you're using distillation for clean water but what are you doing for electricity? I think there's a lot to romanticism about seasteading but would be interested in earning some testimonials from those that are actually living there. 

Seasteading is actually a good concept though there are always many challenges any project on this line should be winning over with. This can be a good way for some people to live a different environment just above the sea and now we already have many necessary technologies that can make things possible with seasteading. Though there are also many limitations that the project should be dealing with. I am sure that this can be attracting many supporters and attention from the media -- in fact this can be a very good tourist attraction.

It is definitely not the first seastead ever built, but it is probably the first one to accept bitcoin. However, how much business your team is expecting in the first year of operation, I mean I am just trying to understand the business forecast!
