Is it mandatory?
Just like looking both ways before you cross the street... it isn't mandatory, but it makes the entire exercise a lot safer! Wink

You can certainly download, install, run and use Electrum without checking the digital signatures... in fact, the scammers who produce the fake Electrum clones that steal coins rely on you doing exactly that! Tongue Roll Eyes

Is it mandatory? Or it's just a way to check it is the real electrum wallet? I have installed electrum wallet for a couple of weeks ago and update it to the newest version, but I never use it yet (sent or receive some mBTC).
Mandatory? No.

But it is a very important (and optional) procedure to verify if the files are legit. Better safe than sorry.

did you verify the signature of the electrum installer you downloaded?

I think you don't understand what he mean.

Can you post what version of electrum you have? Because there are many fake Electrum wallet spreading through internet and maybe you installed a fake Electrum wallet.

He said he was using the electrum which came preinstalled in tails.

This means:
1. It is the original electrum, and not a fake or scam version
2. It is outdated. I believe electrum 3.1.3 is shipped with the latest tails (not completely sure about that). Definitely too old to connect to electrum server and not recommended to be used anyway.

If you use a fake Electrum wallet you will never recover them back. Make sure that you are using Electrum wallet from correct website the correct website is electrum.org.

If you didn't download the Electrum wallet from the correct website it's probably a fake desktop wallet and someone already stolen your bitcoin via fake Electrum wallet.

I used the electrum wallet that comes with the latest version of tails, and I copied it in manually and read over it 5+ times to make sure. Is there anything I can do to get the btc back into the original account or into my electrum account? I already contacted local bitcoins who claimed it’s already been processed and put into the account but there’s no balance there

Please answer the question.

What version of Electrum are you using? Older versions will not synchronize with the network and i think that's your problem at this moment.
If this is the case your bitcoins are safe but you need to upgrade.

djhomeschool is completely correct... Might i add following questions/remarks/tips?:

  • did you double check the deposit address generated by electrum? There are copy/paste virusses that change the address in memory by an address owned by the virus writer
  • did you look at the deposit address on a block explorer?
  • did you verify the signature of the electrum installer you downloaded? There are several illegal versions floating around, if you downloaded such a version, it's possible that the deposit address that was generated was just an address whose private key was owned by the person who wrote the illegal version...

As for your question about support: electrum is free and open source, i don't think ThomasV has the resources to start a professional support team... Afterall, i don't think he gets a lot of donations, so there's no money to provide professional support...
Asking your question in this forum is the best you can do... If you want professional support, you'll probably have to buy a ledger or a trezor... These devices are manufactured by a company, so they have some resources to setup a (semi)professional support team.

2. Did you download it from https://electrum.org/#download ?
3. Do you see a green circle in the lower right corner? ( like this: https://prnt.sc/n6b1ls )

I sent the btc from localbitcoins to my electrum wallet and just never received it. Not sure why there’s no support service for electrum so I had no choice but to go here. Can anyone help?
