Somebody messed up and edited a ban trigger which temprarily unbanned everyone. Theymos sorted it though.

Good to know, things are sorted out now, locking this one.

Could there have been a flaw with banned accounts in general? This guy could post again, while being banned.

According to your mentioned image banned account cant send smerit. SO, there is no reason to be worried about the sending smerit by banned account.

I also saw the guy (Lunarics which is now banned again for reasons that I don't know) blaming Flying Hellfish as he said that FH is responsible for banning his account, which is not totally right IMO. By the way, at the very ending moment of his account, he still managed to provide some test and proof if the "bug" is working, it will again take months before his account to be unbanned or it is now permanently banned, not sure.
Well, since the bug doesn't work (or it really doesn't work before). It's a relief that there will be no need to worry about it.

Update to this case, the guy was banned again (?!) and tested the system, the result is in the OP.

dogs are cute.
Maybe there are 3 levels
Deleted account - where the account is cancelled and blocked.
Banned accounts - these could have temporary restrictions, but the member can still log in for activity
Restricted accounts - accounts where the member is not able to post for a period, but other activities are permitted.
Accounts can be nuked, it applies only for newbies if I am not mistaken.
And accounts can be banned and can be locked. I don't think all accounts can be deleted(by the mods), but theymos can. Tongue

Yeah, there's plenty room for monkey business here.
Hope theymos will see this.

That's a perfect opportunity for someone to sell merits--they have absolutely nothing to lose, and I'm sure people will be stupid enough to buy them.  Murphy's law really does apply in force to bitcointalk.

Good catch, iasenko--I would not have thought about that situation probably ever.

Edit:  Thanks for the update, OP.  Glad banned members are no longer able to send sMerits.  While it wouldn't qualify as a disaster, allowing them to do that would have been detrimental.

Banned users can login, but there's a message specifying that they've been banned, and whether it has any time frame or if it's permanent. They can't post etc, but they can read the forum as normal whilst logged in AFAIK.
I see, all these time I thought it's unaccessible, well thanks for enlightening me. So then, if this "bug" were true, we should really conduct some test (or admin should) and fix it immediately before other banned members found out. This will be a serious misuse of Merit in case that this information spread out.

Will support your idea iansenko.

As far as I know banned accounts aren't accessible. How can they send Merits if the account is banned? Or I'm mistaken, a particular user still have access to a banned account? Which one is right?

It's probably true. I remember seeing someone posting something like this in the week the merit system was released.

IMO, theymos should fix this (in case he didn't already).

Fixed.

According to the user Lunarics, while he was banned he was able to use his sMerit as normal.
That means that all the banned accounts can access and use their sMerit as he stated below.

Wondering if this is valid for the permabanned/ nuked.

I'm just spreading the word here, all the credit goes to him.

If the mods want to try to confirm the situation I'm willing to participate, I have enough sMerit to test it and not afraid to be banned /hopefully not nuked/ for the cause.
For the nuke test, I can maybe create a test account sent 2 merit and then the mods can nuke it and test.

~snip~
And immediately the question to Mod, noticed that the banned user can give Merit. So it should be or not !? If not, then it turns out that people will buy banned accounts who have Merits and sell Merits through them! Or to put Merit to yourself!

The Update>

The guy was banned yesterday again after I posted this thread. Wondering what is the reason for the ban, seems like not a bounty shitposter to me.
He tested the system during the ban and wrote a report. Not possible to send sMerit during ban anymore /if it was possible before as I don't have a proof of that/.
