Tweetscan.com, a Twitter search engine, email alerts service, and Twitter backup web application is for sale.

I started the search engine in late 2007 when I was playing around with the Twitter timeline and had a unique experience. I was eating dinner with my family not long after starting a rudimentary data collection and search tool when an earthquake hit the SF Bay Area. I quickly did a search on my Treo 650 and within a minute knew the earthquake hit the South Bay and the magnitude. I knew at that time that Twitter was going to be big for real-time news and started turning it into a serious tool for twitter keyword-based monitoring.

I continued to improve and build the service for the next couple of years, gaining stories by Mashable (http://mashable.com/2008/04/28/twitter-brand-management/) and mentions by @Scobleizer(https://twitter.com/Scobleizer/statuses/804465517) and other early Twitter pioneers. The site was were the best option for Twitter search until another service was purchased by Twitter in mid 2008.

Over the time the site operated and without any paid-advertising, it obtained 100-150 users paying $20/yr for daily and weekly email twitter alerts. We also provided one of the first Twitter account backup services.

Finally, built from scraping the public timeline, streaming API feeds and through running the backup service, we amassed a database of 636M tweets, mostly from late 2007 when the service started to May 2011.

We also crawled identi.ca and a number of status.net-based microblogs.

I had the site forwarding to twitter.com for the past couple weeks so the PR is screwed up but it's probably PR5-6. If you're looking to get into social network monitoring or want a bigger presence in social, this could be a good purchase for you.

If you purchase the site, you would receive all code and scripts required to query and add to the database, run a basic (needs a little coding) Twitter backup service, and do daily/weekly email alerts. You could run the service for BTC-only with some mods (Bitpay?) or use PayPal as I did back when I charged for the alerts. You'll also get @Tweetscan which has 2k followers.

Sound interesting?

Make an offer!

Happy scanning.
