First of I would buy some bitcoin from the likes of coinbase or kraken then set up Bittrex or cryptopia to buy the coins you want with the bitcoin you have bought.

Last time I used Coinbase, didn't had any problems, just had to wait for the bank transfer to be made for approval when it was time to withdraw.

You can buy EOS and the rest of the coins in most major exchanges such as Binance and Hitbtc. Since most of the exchanges trade with BTC, you have to buy BTC using USD which can be done at coinbase or localbitcoin.

Check out coinmarketcap website for the specific exchanges where you can buy your coins. Good luck.

Use localbitcoins I promise you it will work first time around and you won't have this headache. You will be trading in ten minutes from now. You just register then trade with a trader and exchange what they want for your bitcoin. Easy as that. They use escrow so once you get your bitcoins you release they payment and done. Very easy anyone can do it.

You’re probably going to have to do what I did a few years ago. I opened an account with Coinbase and bought Bitcoins with cash from my bank account. Once you have acquired Bitcoins, you can move them to any exchange you want to and then purchase whatever altcoins you want. The key is get the Bitcoins first to fund you exchange accounts.

For a Ripple wallet just go to https://xrpchat.com somewhere on that site are easy instructions to create a paper wallet using various opensource github tools used already by their members. Only use the recommeded ones. You can generate your paper wallet offline. However I think you will need to activate the wallet with a small fee of Ripple XRP about 50 now I think. To do this there are a few recommended sites that allow you to pay a small fee in USD to activate your wallet for you. Failing this you could ask someone on the xrpchat.com forum to send 50 XRP to your wallet address to activate it. That is about 12.50 USD now for 50 XRP.

I used coinbase for a quick conversion to bitcoin then you can send your bitcoin to an exchange that has the selection you are searching for.  I found that was quick and easy to get converted without a long wait or large cost to convert.

I am still searching for the best exchange interface i like the best.  Gdax is linked to coinbase but not a large selection to go with there.  With the volatility swings looks like there is still a large opportunity to get started.  Best of luck!

1. Install wallet for each coin you want to hold.
2. If you only have USD (or your national currency), convert USD to BTC. Use Changelly or Shapeshift to do it - they both are simple and low-fees exchangers.
3. Look for a most liquid market for every altcoin you want to buy. E.g. I would go to Poloniex if I wanted to buy Stellar.
4. Deposit BTC to certain altcoin exchange and buy desired altcoin. Following my example, I would deposit BTC to Poloniex and immediately buy STR for it.
5. Generate a new receiving address in your wallet and send altcoin from exchange to your wallet.

Now you safely hold altcoin, just sit back and watch the price grow.

I hope it helps.  Wink

If you are in the US or Canada, you can also use Coinbase to make your trades from USD to BTC. Then you would send your BTC to the exchange of your choice, make your altcoin trade there, then send altcoin to your altcoin wallet.

I've started a thread here to help those new to the cryptocurrency industry navigate this world.

Most of the coins you listed can only be bought on certain exchanges, and only with bitcoins. That's just the way it is.

Hi - I have spent the past 3 hours signing up to a bunch of different coin sites and trying to buy coins with USD. The coins I want to purchase are

Ripple
IOTA
NXT
cardano
stellar
EOS

If someone could help with me EOS first that would be awesome.

My back story... looked into bitcoin mid 2015. Had the money to invest, spent a few months reading and studying about it. Was about to purchase litecoin 1000 shares at $3 a piece and Bitcoin for about $290 getting about 30 shares. I got scared and did not pull the trigger.. Stupid me.. But anyways help would be fantastic.

For Ripple I went and signed up on BitStamp. With bitstamp have to wait 24 hours to hear back with approval. But the other issue I have is do I need a ripplewallet in order to use bitstamp?

For Nxt - It says I only can exchange with Bitcoins to NXT. So I downloaded the NXT server and see my public nxt number. But where and how would i even purchase it. I assume I can only exchange with Bitcoin or ether

Cardano - I downloaded Daedalus, because I have to have a wallet first.

EOS - For this I went to this site https://buyingeos.com/  but I can only purchase it with Bitcoin.

Stellar - Gave up trying at this point.

After all this I have 0 coins haha. Could someone help me to at least get EOS going.
