The wallet with 100 BTC is my, and after being alerted by Dave Bitcoin from Wallet Recovery Services, I decided to move my coins elsewhere.

The wallet was stolen from me in 2013, when I forgot it on one of my FTP servers.

Send it to me. I have cracked wallets in the past. I know of a bug I can exploit.

You're bluffing, the encryption used by the Bitcoin-qt wallets is much harder to break than most encryption schemes. The bitcoin wallet encryption is strong by design. There are no known flaws in the implementation, and many people have tried to break it and FAILED.

Send it to me and I will prove you wrong.

just send it, you have nothing to lose
I want to see if this guy can pull it off
Send it to him and let him prove it Tongue also if you will be sucesfull shrekster then you should send atleast half of the sum or some part to the owner.

I really wish they would send it. I wouldn't even keep half, Just a little. I honestly have a way. If you have it please send it.

You have a negative trust here, how could we trust you ?

okay... let's forget about your trust rating, to prove that you have the skill to break bitcoin wallet encryption, I will send you my encrypted wallet.dat file with zero balance, I'll give you 1 week to reveal the password and post the password in this thread, then we will trust you, and probably the owner of 100 BTC wallet will send you his file.

What is your email to send my wallet.dat  ?

Waiting Technologov read this, i think this post related with his post about bitcoin phising. He said someone  trying to crack his wallet.

You misunderstood about Technologov, he didnt say someone trying to crack his wallet, but someone pretended to own his lost btc wallet and ask him to download the wallet in his email
Really ? Sorry if i missed a thing, i'll check again.

Send me it and i open it for you  Grin

You won't be able to brute-force the password, unless it is very simple (<= 8 characters with no special characters).
Also, you may get a malware instead if someone send you his "wallet file". Wink

I give back 90 to sender and keep 10 seem fair ?

but some of them still try to figure out the password

They said when he accept "wallet.dat" from victim, the data can be import into block chain and he can dump it's master key.

hard to solve the pass phrase problem if the owner can't give significant hint/clue
it will take forever to solve that
good luck with it

With his wallet.dat, you can see his addresses and tx history.
But without the passphrase, you can't spend the bitcoin or get the private keys.

It seems to me that screenshot is a fake and that guy is a troll.

Most likely that's the reallity, but if it's true it's hard to get your wallet recovered without proper backups. I had pains to recover my wallet, and it was only 4 BTC at that time.

Would be funny to try that with a physical object. Find an expensive bicycle parked somewhere and try to sell it claiming you lost the keys to the lock.

Indeed, I do remember reading a local news long time ago, that someone seek help from a locksmith to get in "his own house" after "leaving his key inside in the morning". Tongue

This smells of scam.

It's probably not even his own wallet. He's trying to sell something that he doesn't own. He didn't even steal it.

That wallet .dat probably just doesn't belong to that address that's all.

it make sense if he stolen that account and forgot the key but if it is indeed a small possibility he could forget because he's not a small amount, normally we will often look to just make sure we account funds were included in safety
maybe because it's long time ago?

This has got scam written all over it. Why would you store 100 BTC without a password written down or something you'd definitely remember.

It depends on when the coins were received by the user. if the coins were received (either via mining or purchasing) more then 1.5 years ago then the 100 coins would be worth barely four figures

I dont get the basic fact that why someone will keep 100 BTC in a wallet relying on password. Anyone having this volume must have the private key of the address/addresses where this wealth is spread. Looking at the post, how he wants to sell it by luring at 100 BTC, it is quite evident that it is a SCAM attempt.

But what would the motivation be, to do that? Attention seeker? or just troll?

I will never store, that amount of coins on any platform on the internet. It could be Paris Hilton or Bill Gates under a pseudo name, but they wipe their ass with that kind of money.  Grin

Eish, what would people do next. If it's a scam, I am too dumb to figure it out.

The font on the image looks different, if you look closely. I highly doubt a 100 BTC wallet would not have a backup

Yeah if you look close enough you even see that +50 BTC transaction was edited. It is much clearer than the numbers above, which have the JPEG compression artifacts all over them. You can even see how the original number was painted over using a circular stamp tool that copied some of the grey background.

Besides that I can guarantee that for a normally used wallet having 100 BTC flat with NO change is pretty much impossible. Especially since there were no flat transactions.
