you pretty much have to if you want to run a company

In many locations that information is intended to be public so that people can find out who they're doing business with at law.

It's possible to form business entities in locations where that information is not freely available to the public, but in doing so you need to understand that people may choose not to do business with an entity which makes no information about itself public.

I would like to be in control of what information about me is searchable on the internet.

Do I have to get a fake undercover account to be protected from haters?

Don't give information about yourself to third parties. You have utterly and completely lost control of it when you do that.

Why should personal info be removed?

To protect scammers, of course.

I think the OP is failing to make the distinction between personal information and public records.  Whois, business registration records, etc are not "personal information".  We're not posting information about people's credit records here, although in the real business world that's information which many businesses gather as a prerequisite to trusting people financially.

Yeah, if you're going to dox, don't post it on the forums, since it could be deleted. Do it the Bitcoin way and it'll stick around forever!

But seriously, most people capable of getting someone's address can just proxy up an IP and script their 6 hours of activity to post it anonymously if action was being taken anyway.

lately there started a habit of posting personal data about other forum members ("doxxing")

Why do moderators not act on this? I think it should not be allowed and personal information posted by others should be instantly removed. Also people doxxing should be banned.
