A lot of accounts that sign up here are bots that get nuked pretty quickly.
How does the site get to know that if they are bot or real accounts?
And why doesn't the site use a better captcha like recaptcha?

You can understand if a new sign up a bot or not like that;
That's the member list ordered in latest registers; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=mlist;sort=registered;start=0;desc

And check the "Website" column, on the second page there's this user: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/eezabeljames-505845
Website:    "Dish tv recharge in Rawalpindi" that's the keyword bot's spamming backlink for a website.
One of those bots is scrapebox: http://www.scrapebox.com/
it can automatically sign up for forums and create accounts to provide backlinks.

It's not hard to understand if a new account bot or not.

Some of those bots are capable of opening threads like "Hi, I'm new here, that's my website check it". Those accounts can be reported (I've reported some of them) but if they just create an account and don't post we can not report it to be nuked Sad

Is this what you are looking for - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats ?
This page tells a lot of stats.
Also I would like to have a page where I could see who is on the top in case on reporting posts? Or theymos/badbear can announce it like they did earlier.
Thanks for posting the stats of this forum. I have a question regarding the stats: why are there zeroes on the "Most Online" column from May 2013 to April 2015? Can anyone explain this to me?

Thank you, this is pretty interesting. I was looking for some information like here. I had no idea that I can see such overview. Pretty impressed.

Autoban is just the name of the ban tool.  It's a ban button, opposed to the typical SMF method which involves putting all the information in manually.

How does the site get to know that if they are bot or real accounts?

The mods get reports, they act, bot is gone. If you see a lengthy post in broken english about how awesome nike shoes are or why you should leave your wife you know its a bad bot. The better ones rephrase existing posts[1].

I was more interested in knowing how are the bots auto banned (not talking about the bots that get named after reports)?
Like here - in the modlog - https://bitcointalk.org/modlog.php , sometimes we see 10s of accounts getting autobanned? I guess they are also bots? How does the system identify them?

Actually yes this is great!  I thought this existed. Thanks!

It actually looks like - yes the number of posts per day is down from say a year ago (understandably); however, the boards I visit simply arent as busy as the Altcoin ANN board - which was primarily where I used to post.

The one unique stat - if I'm reading it correctly is:

Average New Accounts Per Day:  255
Average Users Online Per Day: 300

That seems a little weird - but maybe that's par for forums - I really have no basis to assume one way or the other. That most users are simply infrequent.

Just curious if there was a way to view forum stats at a global level - or if that info is ever posted by Theymos/Other Mods?

I only ask out of curiosity. It seems as though things are continually quieting down here on the boards... posts becoming farther and farther apart; etc.

Reasons of course being obvious; BTC Price, Alts are a dying trend, but just curious on the actual figures.

Cheers!
