Go into the thread you want to search and use the search box at the top.
Go into your settings then Look and Layout Preferences, then check the 'Show most recent posts at the top' box. Also, at the far right of every thread there's a little icon that if you hover over it will say 'Last Post'. Clicking on it will take you straight to the latest post in that thread.

I've never used a forum using Simple Machines as frontend and am struggeling with two tasks:
- How can I search the current thread only?
- How can I configure the forum that it will position at the first unread message when openening a thread? Right now always the first page is shown. From other forums I'm used to have a function called "jump to first unread message".
