I did some digging and found out that he is not new and in fact he has a lot of wallets from 2018-2020, you can tell from the number of transactions.
This is a typical scammer's attitude. They will act as if they are the one who dont have much knowledge about cryptocurrency and will persuade you to do the transaction first. Of course a token holder with some good value will be interested. But let me remind you that these scammers are targeting also those whom easily be convinced with their asset. Sometime they will show you how looks legit they are and gonna give you some proof of payment or any evidence that they had been doing a good transaction before. The fact that they don't want to do an escrow means he is hiding something and as a cautious guy, you must have instinct already that this is a potential cheap trick scam.

snip..
being in the crypto world is inseparable from fraud, therefore we must always be alert to seduction to make quick profits.  I have blocked a lot of scammers on Telegram, all of whom use a concept that is not much different that is promises big profits..

I looked around the forum to see if his telegram or his wallet addresses to see if it is connected to any account in the forum so it would be negatively tagged to warn others who might transact with him but I can't seem to find any match.
it is certain that he (the fraudster) uses his alt wallet account..

In the telegram you will meet such scammers every day, they present themselves in such a way that they are very innocent. I also encounter such scammers, who are constantly looking for ways to scam new crypto users.

These kind of warning posts should be made to keep newbies away from them.

Problem is that most of the people, newbies and experioenced ones, are driven by greed and not common sence.
And that's what the scammers pray upon, that in your head you will think "it looks scammy, but what if??? what if this is a chance to get a good deal"

And of course, it's not.

Newbies are always looking for ways to make a quick profit. And because of this thinking, they are often interested in making such deals. The person who texted me said he had a YFI token worth $6000. He can't exchange that token, so he asks me for help.

But it is a trap, showing the greed of a good amount and they trying to trap many newbies.

At least you have a record of scammers address so every possible victim can search the address reputation first before having transaction.

It's not really secure to have a transaction in telegram ,you are giving a great suggestion to use escrow in the forum instead of transferring money to him directly. Most of the victim of fake buying scam is they are greedy to earn money for selling ,so they grab 50% sending transactions first and ending up to be a victim.
Had run ins with a couple of scammers, can't do some digging as most of them use stolen identity. Good word of advice about doing transaction in Telegram, it is a scammer's paradise. The fact that they are going to do a 50% in the first place is fishy in every possible way. You cannot blame the reasoning used by the scammer though obviously to lower your guard about suspecting that he/she might be a scammer. Online transactions, especially peer to peer is the most problematic because you have to establish trust with a stranger.

He said he is new to cryptocurrency so I had to explain this and that to him. He wants me to send first, so I said we hire a trusted legendary member to escrow or to be a middleman. He said no because he was afraid that he will get scammed as he said he was scammed before. So I proposed something else which is I send 5% of the token first then he send 5% of the payment. He still said no because he wants me to send at least 50% of the token before he pays which smells like a scam to me. So I ask his wallet and get the f out.

I did some digging and found out that he is not new and in fact he has a lot of wallets from 2018-2020, you can tell from the number of transactions.
You were lucky this time and he gave you chance with your 5% offer. Actually he was trying to take big amount of token from your side where he could take 5% at the beginning easily. Take it as a lesson and never deal with them who are not interested to use trusted escrow service.

Although you haven't got scammed but made a little mistake here and that is your 5% token ending offer Smiley. I hope you will not repeat this in the future.
