Mailing cash through registered mail is pretty safe.

Typical cost $20-30... But it's fully insured.

last time i used moneygram and i had to fill out soooo much paperwork and after i did that they wanted my social security number. wtf?

Assuming OP is not interested in having bank recording his transactions. AML regulations make it difficult to buy without electronic trail (err, less the blockchain, I guess) outside of doing cash transaction in-person. Mailing thousands of dollars is definitely not something I would do, but some people trust the mail services more than I.

For that volume consistently, you'll probably need to open a MtGox account and wire money to it every week or two to buy coins directly.
